Hey, quick reminder, aplatonic people are real and valid and welcome here. If you think they aren’t, kindly fuck off.

I’m not aplatonic, but I will always stand by my community, the aspec community, which includes aplatonics.

I received an anonymous ask saying that people identifying as “aplatonic” is aphobic. I immediately blocked the anon and will do so to anyone else who sends in a similar ask.

I am not aplatonic or afamilial, I personally value my friends and family greatly. But it would be hypocritical of me to say that people can’t be aplatonic or afamilial because I don’t personally understand it. Many people don’t understand being aromantic or asexual, and yet here we are. Being aroace.

What that anon said is 1000% exclusionism and has no place here. It never will. If you have a problem with that, block me.

Oh my fucking god aspec isn't just arospec and acespec and it's getting on my fucking nerves seeing people be like "I support aspecs!! Aros and aces are welcome here!!" Those two sentences mean different things. Aros and aces are aspecs but so are aplatonic people, afamilial people, analterous people, a-aesthetic people, asensual people, et cetera.

lovenormativity (again, not sure if this is a word): EVERYBODY feels love and there's something wrong wiith you if you dont

NOT lovenormativity: I PERSONALLY feel love and love people, but not everyone does and that's completely okay!

NOT amatonormativity: i dont have friends/have any desire to have friends, i am happy with other relationships/no relationships at all

NOT platonormativity: i dont have any desire to be in a romantic relationships, and i am happy with my platonic relationships

NOT allosexnormativity: i like hooking up with people and having one night stands or friends with benefits

NOT faminormativity: i care about my family deeply and am close with family members

NOT lovenormativity: i feel love for people i care about

it's not normative to personally enjoy something, so long as you respect that other people simply arent like you and aren't going to like the same things as you. taking down normativity is a two way street, allos and aspecs need to do it. support your local aros, aces, apls, afams and other aspecs today! remember to challange all normativities, and to not enforce other normativity by saying how bullshit other normativities are!

nothing is universal. romance is not universal. sex is not universal. friendship is not universal. family is not universal. love is not universal. nothing is universal.

Introducing: The Aspec Glossary!

There are a lot of aspec terms, some more common than others. With this series, I'm hoping to spotlight a bunch of different aspec identities, terms, etc.

If you have any suggestions for terms to post about, you can comment on or reblog this post, or send in an ask or dm!

A lot of these topics will be aro/ace centered, but I'm happy to shine some light on anything on the aspec, including afamilial, aplatonic, asensual, atertiary, aqueerplatonic, etc. Just know that I will have less to say personally about things that don't apply to me, and I will be more heavily relying on the words of others in those cases.

Note: when a term is a modifier than can apply to multiple things (eg. repulsed, aego, demi, etc.), I typically default to using sex/sexuality/asexuality as the example (eg sex-repulsed, aegosexual, demisexual), because those are more clear-cut for me to define. Determining if an action is sexual is easier for me than determining if an action is romantic or platonic or anything else, and sometimes I just need an example. There's not really a deeper meaning to it.
