I've come to realize i really enjoy this genre of guy
bloodymary doodles to distract myself from the current state of the world…
Petrova line
Wdym you hate Stratt? Without her you don’t get a story
Omg I love this piece. Grace the hanging man, content with his life but cannot avoid the changes coming; the ship his noose, the rope that binds him to his fate; the blood red stars beside him, Olesya and Yáo the angels haunting him in the background. Eva Stratt, the one who holds it all on her back, the world is literally on her shoulders, the Petrova line on her neck. She will not falter, cannot afford to move, and yet still she glares at us. Eva challenges us, daring us to ask if we could do better, if we could hold her burden for even a fraction of the time.
Eve, the mother of sin, who held the world in her hands and was cursed for not knowing.
Eva, director of the task force, who now holds the world, and still must curse man to save it.
In the end, it always falls on a woman. I could never hate you Eva Stratt
for a better tomorrow
I love how as soon as Katia officially joins the party, she starts ragging on Carl. He doesnt even seem to mind (because shes usually right lol)
I just love them. Get you someone who supports your stupidity but also calls you out for it.
My brother pointed out that the reason the River is getting louder is because Carl is standing on a crumbling river bank (his mental state) and he’s getting closer and closer to it the more it falls apart and that’s why it’s louder and it’s getting harder to pull him back from the edge everytime because it’s unstable ground
I’m trying to figure out if the River Bank idea was incredibly obvious to others and I just missed or what 😭 (would not be the first time and surely won’t be the last)
Princess Donut should get hit with a Polymorph spell that turns her into a human teenager until they kill the spell caster so Carl has to grapple with the fact that he’s actually Donuts dad while fighting off his trauma with a stick
*★Safe Room★*
Let them have a fucking break 🙏
I don't like drawing a lot of characters in one image but I'll make an exception this time. These books got me going stupid
idk if this correlation will make sense to anyone else but my first random was the dream SMP and one of the fan songs was called "voices" and done by derivakat. and as of yesterday that song popped back into my head as the river in carl's head. it's not a perfect match but oooooo it's interesting to me
So in the no dungeon/everyone is human au I have going on, the Mordecarl of it all happens when Carl and Donut need a roommate after The Breakup (something their friends privately celebrated. There was talk of a "Congrats on Finally Leaving Your Unfulfilling Relationship Holy Fuck" cake but it was decided that was probably insensitive considering the ensuing custody battle).
Nobody in the friend group can put up Carl and Donut despite everyone being more than willing. Especially not with the newest factor: Donut's new puppy Mongo. He's a random stray she and Carl found abandoned in the street. Despite Donut's burning hatred of dogs she declares this pathetic creature her new baby and begs Carl to keep it. Carl knows damn well Donut is projecting her complicated feelings about the breakup/custody battle onto this thing. Unfortunately his guilt over how chaotic Donut's life is wins (as well as her sad wet eyes) and they have a puppy now. An as-of-yet untrained one who's appearance can be most kindly described as undeniably fugly. So that narrows the pool of potential roommates down even further.
The recommendation of Mordecai comes with the warning that he's one miserable bastard, especially if he decides he doesn't like you. But he's desperate enough for someone to share rent with that he's willing to move his lab to his room instead of the third bedroom. Said lab is also the reason he's not too attached to his security deposit. And even though he's not a teacher, he did do a program in the summer so he's had a recent background check. He'll do. Katia passes his information to Carl.
Mordecai thinks the resulting email waiting in his inbox one Wednesday portends ominous things for his future. He doesn't exactly want to live with two strangers and an unruly dog, but at this point who the hell else can he ask? He's scared off all other academics with his personality. His few remaining friends either live too far or know him too well to ever want to bunk with him. He has no family anymore. Nobody he's close to. And he'd rather eat glass than live with students. So strangers and a dog if he doesn't want to move it is.
Their first meeting could have gone better. Mordecai was surly, Carl was stressed to the point of being snappish, Donut was bratty, and Mongo was bitey. Despite that the Royal Court of Princess Donut move in to their new adress the next day because frankly, there's no other options. Once at a permanent place Donut wastes no time properly training Mongo. Mordecai is impressed despite himself how she keeps at it. He ends up giving her some tips one morning and that's what really breaks the ice. He still thinks they're weird as hell of course. But in an endearing way now.
From there he slowly finds himself looking forward to the end of his workday when he can see his roommates. He starts helping Donut with homework. He's distracting Carl when Bea has her for a weekend. He sneaks the damn dog an occasional treat. And Carl for his part is inviting Mordecai to spend time with his and Donut's friends and they slowly worm his way into his heart too. He even ends up getting along with Quasar, the foul-mouthed custody lawyer Carl found on Craigslist of all places. Mordecai goes from someone who's only bright spot was the distant light of retirement to someone with standing Friday night plans.
The fact he's ass over teakettle in love with Carl hits him like a bat to the face. He does not take it well. Nevermind the fact falling for a roommate is always messy, Carl just out of a long term relationship! He's a stressed out single father! The age difference! There are so many reasons Mordecai needs to curb his feelings. But then Carl will do something nice for him, like fix a squeaky door without being asked or grab him his usual from their favorite takeout place and he's back at square one.
If Carl is honest with himself (something he avoids doing with the skill of a trained acrobat the way he's jumping through all these mental hoops) he probably started feeling something other than friendship for Mordecai when he came home from work to find him showing Donut an experiment in the kitchen. It's something small. But the fastest way to Carl's heart is to be sweet to Donut. And this was an experiment that Mordecai clearly put a lot of thought into making fun for Donut. He'd gone out and bought supplies specifically for it even. This is swiftly repressed. Partly because getting a crush on the guy you live with is never a good idea and partly because he's been locking his bisexuality in a mental box for years now. It is going to take more than a nice moment to unlock it. So what if he finds himself staring sometimes? Guys can admire each other's features sometimes. It's not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just doesn't apply to Carl. He's straight.
Plus, he really shouldn't get involved with anyone until the custody battle is over. Donut is his first priority. There's also the weird letters he's been getting. They're filled with some very specific information. Carl really doesn't want to drag anyone into that. The last one mentioned some... explicit details about what the sender wanted to do to with Carl's feet. He doubts they're going to take "sharing" well.
Donut is pretty sure something is going on. Carl and Mordecai are acting like the people in her shows when they're in love. And it would be nice if Mordecai stayed. She likes living with him. Carl smiles more now.
Against all odds, they start to drift to the same page about their feelings. They're not about to jump into each other's arms yet, but there's a little less denial now. A win is a win.
And then Carl gets the call about Asher.
Post-Canon where Carl and Donut are a game guide duo. They had to give up a lot to get that deal, to make sure they weren't separated. Their combined contract lasts twice as long as each of them collectively would have had to do. But they refused to be separated, to live for however long without one another and risk not completing their contracts at the same time.
Mordecai gets out and the first news item he hears is about Carl and Donut's contracts and just how *long* they'll be trapped there, in stasis between crawls, how long *he'll* have to wait for them because he had promised them before the end of the crawl that he'd wait for them. He *would* wait for them. He'd do *anything* for his crawlers - his *family*.
After he drinks himself stupid on one of the Open Intellect Action Network's ships he pulls himself together and gets to work.
Mordecai is a lot of things, but he's not stupid. He was a fucking mycologist on his planet, goddamnit. He was a researcher working with grant funding at a university. He knows how to stretch a budget. He knows how to make his work interesting to the right people.
And the people *love* an eccentric weirdo.
He buys a ship (it's one bedroom, a cockpit, and a narrow little cargo bay that he converts into a sound studio). He goes to Crawl Con and corners a bunch of people into agreeing to do interviews with him (Sydnee Iglacia, Drick, Uptown Hal, a dozen other small-time celebrities). And he sets up a goddamn podcast.
It runs on a shoestring budget and is about Dungeon Crawler World. Everything from the history of the Crawl and the way that it was conceived, the inner machinations of how it works, and even about how different mechanics have changed over time. He interviews top crawlers from dozens of seasons. He interviews Dungeon Cookbook Authors. He interviews set designers and production writers and anyone else he can manage to get his talons on.
He brings in an amount of money that if the general public knew they'd be shocked. He squirrels away every cent, subsisting off of waystation food and booze in his little ship.
The first year where The Valtay run a crawl and Carl and Donut are brought out of storage Mordecai chokes up an arm and a leg to sponsor a deity (Horus, a god not in the running for the ascendancy but whose boons align with Mordecai's skills), gets ground-floor interview rights on Carl and Donut's crawlers, and braces himself.
All of Carl and Donut's crawlers die before the fourth floor. None of them get the manager benefit and not a single one of those crawlers listen to Carl and Donut long enough to live to even make deals.
Mordecai watches with his press pass as Carl and Donut grieve. He angles his feed so that he can be as close as possible to them and if he closes his eyes he can pretend he's able to wrap his wings around them and hold them close as Donut sobs and Carl breathes in a slow, forcibly even rhythm.
The next Crawl Mordecai does the same thing. Sponsors Horus, gets ground-floor interview rights on Carl and Donut's crawlers, and braces himself.
Five crawls in he *finally* gets one of those crawlers into a production trailer for an interview. When the interview is done, he shoves a tightly folded note into the crawler's hand and tells them to drop it in Carl and Donut's Tutorial Guild.
He watches as Carl collapses into his chair, staring at the note, his jaw dropped, before he looks up at the ceiling and smiles, letting Donut read the note. She gasps, looking up at the ceiling as well, and Mordecai smiles, unseen by anyone, at the two of them.
One crawl, centuries into Carl and Donut's indentureship, the stars all align. Carl and Donut get an entire team of crawlers that beat the odds, one of which gets the manager benefit with their class. Carl and Donut convince them to worship Horus, and Mordecai's shrine appears in the combined personal space of the party.
He appears in his deity's soul armor, an amalgam of his own Skyfowl form and the humanoid body of the god. Donut and Carl both *gasp* as they see him and he smiles warmly at them, his eyes softening. He wishes he could reach out an touch them, but he can't, they are not who he is here for. Even if these crawlers make it to the tenth floor to make a deal, Mordecai wouldn't be able to touch them until the Ascendancy on the twelf. Steeling himself against his grief, Mordecai turns his gaze on the new crawlers.
"A boon for you, my children," he holds out a taloned hand and summons a book that he has been assembling for this moment and prays to whatever true god is listening doesn't get confiscated.
New Quest! Seekers of Knowledge
You have been given a very valuable item. A Book of Voodoo. Within it contains the knowledge of thousands that have come before you. Take from its pages, but if you do then you must add another page.
Horus: Do not respond to this message or else the showrunners will see what we are speaking of here. Listen to Carl and Donut. I was their manager once just like they are yours now. If you have any questions, pray to my shrine for knowledge and I will help you however I can. Make a show of it. We don't want the worms figuring things out too soon.
Grace is on Erid, dying of malnutrition and every other disease. The Eridian scientists are fighting for their lives to try and keep Rocky’s beloved flesh blob from shrivelling up. They can’t synthesize the food he needs and it all seems hopeless. But then, in their finest hour, a beautiful dwarf descends from the thick ammonia atmosphere to provide Grace with his first proper meal in years.
It is, of course, Senshi of Izganda
