Gently Used I Damien and Abril I Flashback
He was excited. He’d found a jacket yesterday. It wasn’t too big and looked like it might fit Abril if she rolled up the sleeves a little. Usually the things he found were ratty and old but this one seemed newer but just to be safe he’d gone to the washer after school and spend some of his carefully earned change to clean it. It was generic enough that the person who lost it wouldn’t be able to identify it easily and he’d made sure to look for a name and any distinguishable markings that could lead them to it. Luckily it seemed good. It was perfect.
He walked around the corner, moving to lean against the side of the wall that was just passed the lockers. It was where they usually met as soon as school ended. The jacket was neatly folded in an old Wall-mart bag.
"Hey," He said nonchalantly, his lips curling into a smile.
Abril shrugged her backpack on over no less than four sweaters. They were all worn, most were shapeless, and she basically looked like a blob with hair. But with all the layers, she knew she could count on a measure of warmth when she went outside. It sucked, but most things kind of did.
Upon leaving her classroom, she made an attempt to gather her hair in a ponytail before meeting Damien. It went up just fine, but she had no idea how it looked. Didn't matter, though. It was Damien.
Upon turning the corner towards their meeting place, the girl's lips turned up in a grin. "Hey!"
Upon closer inspection, she saw a WalMart bag in her friend's hands, and raised an eyebrow. "'Cha got there? Blankets?" They could always use more of those. Technically Abril had a place to live, but she stayed there as little as possible, including the nights. And Damien...
A Simple Task I Damien and Abril
He sat down at the cafe, his hands both grasped around a cup of coffee. It was the one thing keeping him on his feet. He knew he needed rest but right now that wasn’t on the top of his priorities. He hated involving her in anything these days. She’d made a choice to go clean and he respected that but this was something that anyone could do. He didn’t think that this was too hard though and it wasn’t anything that would get her into the line of fire. So he’d chosen to contact her for the task… that and he really wanted to see her. He missed her.
He took a sip of the coffee, feeling the warm liquid travel down his throat and though his body. His gaze lingered to his watch and his foot began to tap gently on the ground. Where was she? Was she with Garrett? Honestly he was never too sure about him but Abril had told him that she trusted him and if she trusted him then he supposed that he should too. But if he broke her heart he had some very menacing, very powerful friends that he could call in a favor from. Abril was like a little sister to him and nobody could hurt her and get away with it. He zoned out, getting lost in his thoughts.
Abril stared at herself in the mirror. It was just coffee. They were just meeting for coffee. Just because they'd barely seen each other lately, it didn't mean that he wanted something from her. Damien, once Dimitri, had been a scoundrel in both lives, and together he and Abril, or Anya, had been nearly unstoppable crooks.
But she'd left that behind. In the past, she'd left him in search of her true identity. Here in Storybrooke, she'd gotten spooked. Not only was cheating people wrong, it was dangerous. A couple meals, some money... it wasn't worth jail time.
Even if none of it was real.
The redhead sighed. Her reflection wasn't helping her relax any, so she just turned and walked out the front door, purse in hand. It'd be fine.
Upon reaching the ship, Abril found Damien cozied up to a cup of coffee. "Hey punk," she greeted, tossing her bag on the floor and settling in before him. "You rang?"
Barricaded in the Bathroom || Sanford, Abril, and Kyrie
"Kinda happens when the lights go out…" Kyrie commented before thinking the other girl might actually be in distress. She was terrified for Kellan, but if there was one thing she learned from him it was how to keep herself calm when the situation demanded it. And though she didn’t know the other girl, she though she sounded scared. Not that Kyrie blamed her, but if she could keep herself stable, at least more so… then she hoped it would help.
"I saw, are you okay? Other than the dark?" She asked, letting concern sound in her voice since her expression was hidden by the pitch black of their current situation. She finally found her phone and pulled it out. The screen lit up, but she’d turned it off so it was taking a moment to start up.
At the other girl’s question she paused. “I- thought I saw someone else but I’m not sure… Hello? Is there anyone else in here?” She called, despite guessing if they were capable of responding they would have. “Do you think they got knocked out…? Or maybe managed to get out of here? There might be a way out…” Despite there not being any light, maybe there was a way out. She turned the phone, start up screen towards the other girl’s voice hoping that until it could start up and she could get to her flashlight app, that might be enough to help the girl see the floor or something.
Sanford listened to the two girls easily exchange conversation in the darkness, something Sanford was unable to do. The fact that he was able to discern the girl with the glowing dress, and the voice of the other, helped reassure him that he was not alone, disappearing into the empty maw of his own personal hell.
“Was there anyone else in here? D’you know?” the first voice questioned.
“I- thought I saw someone else but I’m not sure… Hello? Is anyone else in here?” the second spoke.
The mute man was crippled by his fear. He willed his muscles to move, to search the ground in an attempt to make some type of noise in alert. Nothing happened for a few moments, even his raid breathing was next to silent. Yet again, Sanford opened his mouth, willing himself to produce some type of sound; his voice was forever gone, only empty expelled air in its wake.
“Do you think they got knocked out…? Or maybe managed to get out of here?” Sanford heard, quashing his slight hope to be found on the other side of the bathroom by the two girls. A small light appeared in the room, drowning out the previous eerie green figure. That little amount of light seemed to spark some will in Sanford as feeling suddenly returned to his arms, control of his limbs regained. Sanford pushed himself into a seated position, the palm of one hand cracking a piece of glass, causing a sharp pain to arise. The injury at least caused noise.
Sanford knew that even with the small light, he would still remain unseen. He swiped his foot across the floor, disrupting resting debris, and creating clamor.
Passing her had back and forth in front of her eyes, Abril gritted her teeth when almost no visual input happened. It's okay. It's okay, I know who I am. I'm.... I'm Abril. No, Anya. I'm Lady Anya. I'm in love with Garret Hunter. Gaston. I will not forget. "I-I don't know, but I can see... a light. A phone? But it's dim. Really dim." she scooted in the direction the light came from, but paused then when a sound of crunching came from behind her. Or, at least, so she thought. Her senses were a little strange at the moment....
No, she definitely heard it that time. Some sort of skittering. "Hello? I think someone else is in here..." still seeing mostly blackness, Abril turned backwards, towards the sound. "Hey... is there someone there? Are you okay?" she swallowed. When did her mucus become so thick? It was coating her throat, making her voice hoarse. "Com... come this way, if you can? I can't see you." the young woman's heart was pounding in her chest, reverberating all the way to her throat and stomach.
I... can't... see.
Uh.... Max and Abril
"Burger sounds good. My treat." Max smiled and started walking to Granny’s.
"Sweet!" I love it when I don't have to pay. "Fair warning, I don't do rabbit food either. It's go big or go somewhere else, so you're looking at a double cheeseburger with everything on it." She beamed, tossing on a sweet smile even as she planned to milk this for whatever it was worth. Monetarily, of course.
Uh.... Max and Abril
"Then have a burger, stupid." Abril paused. "Okay, now I want a burger. You coming?"
Barricaded in the Bathroom || Sanford, Abril, and Kyrie
Kyrie and Kellan had splurged for this event, both getting new dress clothes and actually just doing things without worrying about money for once in their lives. Well Kellan’s life. Kyrie wasn’t quite as stingy with her money but she also didn’t feel the need to feed the entire town. She knew those who were hungry would come to them, but Kellan wanted to feed them all. She didn’t mind, she just was pleased to have one night where he actually treated himself.
The redhead had spent the evening dancing away with Kellan and enjoying the free food and drink. Unfortunately for her that meant that she needed to use the bathroom. Plus freshening up her hair and make up couldn’t hurt. And that was exactly what she was doing when the other girl smiled at her so she smiled back. A friendly smile, but she didn’t get the chatty vibe from the other red head so she simply kept to herself and replied her lipstick.
Her attention was draw away from the mirror when a shake made her hand dip and miss the outline of her lips. She barely fixed it before she shoved the lipstick in her bag when a man burst in. She looked up to catch the eye of the other girl, the floor shaking and groaning when the door suddenly slammed into the space between them. She yelped as it slammed into her chest sending her backwards. Winded or not, instincts kicked in and she curled herself up, tumbling backwards to land back-first into the wall.
She groaned but uncurled herself, relatively unharmed. Dropping her head against the wall she waited for her breath to even out. She was a little dazed and failed to notice the damages to the bathroom, or anything else. But as she steadied her spinning head and shook off the surprise she went into a mild panic. Where was Kellan? Estelle? Joel? Was the other girl okay? Then a female voice cut through her thoughts. “I’m here!” She looked down at the dress she was wearing and slowly pulled herself to stand. “I glow! Come to me if you can… Who else is here?” She couldn’t see, but she was sure they could see her at the very least. That would get them here while she fished around in her purse for a cellphone that could be used to light up the room.
The darkness enveloped and surrounded Sanford. The initial first three moments were not so bad, until the realization set in that the lights were not going to magically restore themselves. From that moment on, the brunet glanced around fruitlessly, hoping that his eyes would adjust and compensate for the lack of light. Nothing happened. The doorway was entirely blocked, every ounce of light stifled. The oldness and location of the bathroom meant that there was no redemption to be found with the presence of windows.
Sanford’s imagination filled in the blanks. Normally, his dreams were colored with a warm, golden light. Everything was bathed in sparkling sand. Unicorns and fish, dinosaurs and dancers; these things floated and gloated, spreading joy and adventure in Sanford’s mind.
Only this time was different.
Crumbling dust of the earth settling was transformed into movement of dark demons. Unicorns became hellhounds, intent to sniff out and destroy him with their black, rabid mouths. The bathroom was tainted and tarnished in the absense of light and his very life depended on escaping the fiends. Each dark spindle began to pulse and mutiply, some even growing terrifying maws full of thin needle-like teeth, opening their jaws and preparing to attack just out of Sanford’s reach. In the margins of darkness, in those pockets of silence sat Sanford’s deepest, darkest fear.
“H-hello? Hello?” Sanford heard, though the voice sounded full of fright, it somehow served to ground him. At least he was not alone.
“I’m here! I glow! Come to me if you can… Who else is here?” Another voice sounded, tearing away that grounding and serving him with the knwledge that he could not answer that call. His eyes found the slight glow that the second voice was speaking of. It was in the form a dress, though it lent no light to the area around it. It was as if the dress was an exception to the vortex of darkness.
Sanford pushed himself up, glass crunching beneath his palms. Unseen tears made trails down his paniked face. The brunet opened his mouth, attempting to say something, anything. This was the time when his selective mutism needed to be just that – selective. Only nothing came out. Just more silence. Serving to cause Sanford to wonder if he existed at all. Sanford’s heart rate picked up, droning in his ears, as he swept his hands across the floor, hoping to make some noise to alert the girls to his presence.
Abril blinked once. Twice. It was dark, so horribly dark. "I-I can't see..." she said, her tone weak once again. She'd hit her head. No, no. I can't hit my head again. I can't.... I can't. After a moment, she braced both hands on the ground and pushed herself to a kneeling position.
She said she glows. Maybe that means the lights are out. Casting her eyes around the room, Abril was able to make out the faintest difference in light, like a soft glow against the blackness. But it wasn't as strong as she thought it should be. "I hit my head... on the door..." she continued. "I think I see you... Was there anyone else in here? D'you know?"
She slid on her hands and knees towards the slightly-lit smudge. It was hard, she felt as if she might throw up and her limbs shook like nobody's business. But she had to try. Had to get back to Gaston.
~Take Me Back to the Start || Huntress~
Three years. Gods, anything could have happened in that time. What of King Maurice’s kingdom? How’d they fare without him? Had the beast kept his promise? And what of Belle? It was obvious she was still trapped in his spell. Even if she’d fled, somehow now the beast had her captive. But most importantly, Abril had thought him dead. She would have mourned him.
"Hey," he hushed, cupping her cheeks and forcing her to look at him. "They were wrong. My men were wrong. Nothing could defeat me so easily. I’m sorry.. I’m so sorry, my lady. But I’m here. Here and now, I’m with you." Garret ducked down, capturing her lips in a desperate and needing kiss, tender lips so warm and gentle against his own. It had been so long. Too damn long. Pulling away, he wrapped his arms around her, drawing her close. "Don’t fret. Not even the Beast could part us."
Abril leaned in, needing his kiss like it was her only lifeline as she relived that past pain. Though years had technically passed -a whole lifetime- the pain felt as fresh as yesterday's. She had searched fr him for more than a year. Mourned his loss for nearly another, and had barely, barely begun to heal when the curse had struck and all was lost.
"You don't understand," she said when they parted. "I wasn't allowed to love you, but I knew that I could see you. Even if you'd be with her, with Belle. Perhaps one of my sons would be able to become a Guard, or I would have been lucky and married someone with class and a name, and our children and grandchildren could be playmates. I had no care to be your lover, I simply wanted to be a part of your life, however small. But then you were just... just gone." And that was the word that broke her. The girl who was more Anya than anyone at the moment grasped Gaston's shirt and clutched him to her, pressing her forehead against his chest.
She sobbed for several moments; a horrible, gasping sound wrenching its way in and out of her lungs, threatening to rip her in half. He'd died. She had lost him. And though proof of his vitality stood before her, warm beneath her hands and heart thudding against her brow, a part of her would always be the young woman who had loved an impossibly unattainable man too little, too late.
We'll Put The 'Grand' In Grandball || Huntress
The door opened and Garret faltered, eyes flickering down for a moment before returning to her face. She looked so comfortable. Relaxed. Happy. It still stunned him even now. Growing up in such a strict and proper environment, it wasn’t something he was use to. But, damn, did he like it.. It reminded him of the morning they’d first kissed, hair a contained mess. He wanted to kiss her, there and then. It wasn’t until she was hugging him until he realized he had a reason for being here.
Careful of her drink, he returned the hug, breathing in her scent before pulling back with a bright smile. “Good morning to you too, my love.” Taking her hand, he brought it to his lips in a polite kiss, though the gleam in his eyes was that of a predator. Grinning, he straightened up though he did not let her hand go. “I wanted to ask you if I may escort you to the Grandball.”
The look in his eyes went straight to her core, tingling all the way down and ending with a very funny little dance right behind her belly button. And she blushed like a child when he kissed her hand, only to smack him on the cheek with it to cover how flustered she felt when he looked at her like that. Jerk. He knew exactly what he was doing. Still, the question he posed caught her off guard. She hadn't even thought about the upcoming ball, so busy as she was with the Library and getting settled in and, well, Garret.
But, of course, she beamed. "I would love to." she spoke on the wings of a light exhale. Their fingers intertwined without Abril specifically thinking about it, and her smile turned to a smirk.
Uh.... Calisto and Abri
"Absolutely."
"What, you think I don’t know my own merchandise?"
Abril bit back about four sharp (but not helpful) comebacks. "Chillax, I'm not trying to eat your firstborn child, just asking for a verification on the price. That bundle says $12.50, that one says $17.50. Since they're the last two, and you know your product so well, which is it?" Seriously, who peed in his cheerios this morning?
Uh.... I Abril and Damien
"Certain." He said with an almost challenging grin. "Brain-freeze be damned!" He exclaimed to no one in particular and attempted to shove the entire scoop of ice-cream in his mouth. His eyes immediately widened as he began to feel the effects. "Bad idea! Bad idea!" he called out out, reaching to place his hands on his head and over his eyes. He moved two of his fingers out of his eye and looked at her. "Why do you have to be right about everything?" He groaned.
As soon as the ice cream went into his mouth, Abril started giggling. Then, as he started squeezing his head, it turned to full-on snorting. "You're so dumb!" she cried, clapping her hands like a seal.
"And I'm right about everything because I'm smarter than you. Just face it. It's a fact."
Uh.... Open
"Are you sure about that?"
Clean Up Good || Grand Ball || Huntress
Garret grinned, his ego inflating at the compliment. Of course he looked good. Abril, on the other hand, looked stunning. “And you look.. gorgeous.” There was a hint of lust and desire in his words, an evil gleem in his eyes before he held up a bag. “I brought the Italian. Ready, M’lady?”
A fuzzy warm feeling erupted all over Abril's skin at Garrat's obvious approval. She giggled and did a little twirl, letting the gauzy fabric flow around her. "Thanks!" she stretched up to place a peck on the corner of her love's mouth. When he spoke again, her eyes focused on the bag he held and then moved up to beam at him. "Ooooooh, I love you. Let's go." she grasped his hand and tugged Garret towards the car. This Ball would be amazing, so much better than their last.
Barricaded in the Bathroom || Sanford, Abril, and Kyrie
Sanford was dressed in his finest clothing; it was not anything luxurious, just a simple suit, but it was all he owned. He was working his way away from the main chamber of the ballroom, towards the bathrooms. The brunet thought he saw Jack heading towards the restrooms and wondered how the boy was doing after their talk. Seeing how Jack was doing was one of the only reasons that he actually came to this ball. It was not really his scene.
Just before he reached the men’s room, Sanford felt noticeable shaking followed by a scream from behind the closed women’s bathroom door. Acting on his intrinsic need to help others, he shakily burst into the bathroom where he would normally never venture. His steps were uneasy, sloppy, from the effect of the shaking earth.
Once inside the bathroom, with two other girls, everything seemed to get progressively worse. There was a strong, thunder clapping noise, something Sanford might associate with a car accident. The tiled floor cracked and shattered as the floor beneath him seemed to roll. The brunet fell forward to his knees at the unbalance.
Sanford looked up at the ceiling in worry, dust rained into the air of the bathroom followed by the sound of surging water. All Sanford could do in the moment was wonder whether the ground would split open beneath him and swallow him whole, or if the building would cave in and kill him first. A strange, eerie creaking emitted from the doorway behind him and Sanford threw a worried glace over his shoulder, still bracing himself on his hands and knees.
Everything in the room was shaking, the floor was shrieking under the stress of the earthquake; by this point, Sanford acknowledged what was happening as an earthquake. The pounding of the earth and building got weaker and weaker – but not the pounding of his heart. And if he thought his heart was racing before, the bathroom was plunged into darkness and the brunet truly felt fear take hold.
Abril had just needed a second to clear her head. This was the largest group of people she had been surrounded by since she remembered the truth about Storybrooke, and it was and it was overwhelming at best. She kept glancing around at the people she saw twirling and laughing, or at others who simply leaned against walls and tables and looked as if they wished to disappear. Every single one of them had once been someone else. But who?
The question had seemed to swirl in her mind, distracting her from the good time tat she should be having with Garret. Gaston. Whatever. So it was that she had briefly excused herself and made her way to the bathroom where she could take a breather and reorient herself. There was another woman inside, someone who looked to be around her own age, and Abril managed a weak smile while she turned towards the mirror.
That's when the shaking started.
Her first instinct was to grasp the bottom of the marble countertop tightly as she tried to figure out what was happening. There was a groaning around her, a bone-chilling sound of creaking stone. She didn't understand. The shaking intensified, and she lost her grip on the stone and fell to the hard floor, bashing her knee as she did.
She swore. Where was the other person? She looked wildly about, spotting the girl's vibrant hair right as a stall door swung open and blocked her view. They both screamed. Or maybe it was just Abril?
She struggled to her feet and ran towards the girl. The floor felt strange, as if it had turned into a water-bed when it used to be stone. The door swung in the opposite direction -towards Abril- and clipped her on the forehead. Everything went dark.
Seconds... (minutes?) passed, but Abril was in a daze on the floor. At some point the shaking stopped, but she still couldn't see. Had she gone blind? The thought was terrifying. "H-hello?" she tried, wincing at the shakiness of her own voice. "Hello?" she tried again, forcing her tone to be stronger.
