New Year, New Hair || OPEN
"I forgot how freeing having short is! ...I think I look like cotton candy now." She giggled, she was just missing the pink and otherwise it was pretty similar. Brighter, maybe. But that's it. She ruffled her hair before letting it fall back into place like it should.
Talk of Babies || Estelle and Kyrie
The game of waiting was one of the few games Estelle didn’t enjoy playing. She liked things to happen instantly. She wanted her degree now, she wanted the results from her fifth pregnancy test now, she wanted enough money and food for everyone now. She didn’t want to wait. Although she wasn’t waiting on any of that, not at the moment at least, for now she was waiting for Kyrie. She’d easily spent half her day at Kellan’s, sitting on the couch and waiting. After two hours she’d made herself a sandwich which she was currently picking at.
Her previous pregnancy tests all said that she was pregnant. After spending two days in her trailer, she’d decided that she needed to talk to someone else about it. She was slowly driving herself insane. Watching the time tick by while she contemplated what to do with her life. When she’d finally decided to talk to someone, Kyrie was the only option. Kellan wouldn’t understand and Joel didn’t need to know until she couldn’t possibly keep it from him any longer. When she heard the door open she perked up, but didn’t move her hands from her lap, “Kyrie.” She said simply, meeting the eyes of the other woman. “Can we talk?”
Kyrie had been out working a job, cleaning a woman's house for a hefty amount of cash. It was a HUGE house, but she didn't mind, it was good pay especially because with the cold out it was much too chilly to be out with her hoola hoop or puppets. She did puppet shows at the library of course, but that wasn't as nice pay wise as a few cleaning jobs here and there. And so near Christmas the woman had given Kyrie a tip... twice the pay. It'd made Kyrie's day much brighter than planned.
She nudged the door open, humming to herself some tune that was stuck in her head, for some weird reason. Her humming stopped when she noted the figure on the couch and her name was stated. She tilted her head and looked to Estelle, curiosity quite obvious in her demeanor. "Of course we can. What's up?" Something was wrong. Or off. Or ... different. She could tell. She didn't know why but Estelle didn't seem like her usual self.
Flowers and Chocolate || Kyrie and Kellan
"But I’d rather be nervous than regretful, later," he gently ran a hand up and down her back, also using it to hold her a bit closer, "Good. That’s… a relief." But then he stepped away slightly, shifting so one arm was around her waist, and he stood beside her, "Hungry, Kyrie?" he asked with a slight smile. "I made dinner, if you want it."
"Me too." She grinned, ecstatic at the idea that things were official now. She'd assumed they were. But now they were twice as official. As in... out in the open. Not that she'd really doubted otherwise of course. She just worried saying it might make Kellan...queasy for lack of the better word. And she wanted him happy. "I am, actually." She pressed a light kiss to his lips. "ooh, I do, what'd you make?" Her eyes on him, she honestly didn't look at the meal, just him.
One Night Off || WTSC Grand Ball || Kyrie and Kellan
"I love you, Kyrie LaRoux," he smiled back at her, resting his forehead against hers for a moment, though his eyes wandered over her, trying to take all of her in. Se really was perfect, in every way. Kind, sweet, compassionate, intelligent, and on top of all that, she was the most beautiful woman on the face of the planet. Kellan had to forcibly tear his eyes away from her, so he could step back and offer his arm. They did have a ball to get to, after all. "Ready to go?" he asked, leaning in to give her another quick kiss, unable to help it.
Kyrie couldn't help but grin as he rested his head against hers. She loved him, she always had and it was the most amazing thing in the world that they were standing here like this, right now. She'd never wanted to admit that she loved him. Always afraid that once she herself accepted it then things would change. Even more afraid that if he found out things would change. But they hadn't. Now she couldn't be happier that it happened when it did. She took his arm gently and returned the kiss contently. "Ready when you are." She nodded.
Barricaded in the Bathroom || Sanford, Abril, and Kyrie
Sanford listened to the two girls easily exchange conversation in the darkness, something Sanford was unable to do. The fact that he was able to discern the girl with the glowing dress, and the voice of the other, helped reassure him that he was not alone, disappearing into the empty maw of his own personal hell.
“Was there anyone else in here? D’you know?” the first voice questioned.
“I- thought I saw someone else but I’m not sure… Hello? Is anyone else in here?” the second spoke.
The mute man was crippled by his fear. He willed his muscles to move, to search the ground in an attempt to make some type of noise in alert. Nothing happened for a few moments, even his raid breathing was next to silent. Yet again, Sanford opened his mouth, willing himself to produce some type of sound; his voice was forever gone, only empty expelled air in its wake.
“Do you think they got knocked out…? Or maybe managed to get out of here?” Sanford heard, quashing his slight hope to be found on the other side of the bathroom by the two girls. A small light appeared in the room, drowning out the previous eerie green figure. That little amount of light seemed to spark some will in Sanford as feeling suddenly returned to his arms, control of his limbs regained. Sanford pushed himself into a seated position, the palm of one hand cracking a piece of glass, causing a sharp pain to arise. The injury at least caused noise.
Sanford knew that even with the small light, he would still remain unseen. He swiped his foot across the floor, disrupting resting debris, and creating clamor.
Passing her had back and forth in front of her eyes, Abril gritted her teeth when almost no visual input happened. It’s okay. It’s okay, I know who I am. I’m…. I’m Abril. No, Anya. I’m Lady Anya. I’m in love with Garret Hunter. Gaston. I will not forget. "I-I don’t know, but I can see… a light. A phone? But it’s dim. Really dim." she scooted in the direction the light came from, but paused then when a sound of crunching came from behind her. Or, at least, so she thought. Her senses were a little strange at the moment….
No, she definitely heard it that time. Some sort of skittering. “Hello? I think someone else is in here…” still seeing mostly blackness, Abril turned backwards, towards the sound. “Hey… is there someone there? Are you okay?” she swallowed. When did her mucus become so thick? It was coating her throat, making her voice hoarse. “Com… come this way, if you can? I can’t see you.” the young woman’s heart was pounding in her chest, reverberating all the way to her throat and stomach.
I… can’t… see.
She opened her mouth to respond to the woman when a crunch and then a clatter attracted her attention. "Someone else is here." She muttered, quickly, with a few taps bringing up the flashlight application on her phone. A blinding light she turned down to the floor but it was enough that she could see the girl, and another figure a little ways away. "No, both of you stay where you are." It wasn't that far, now that she could see.
Kyrie was thankful that the bathroom wasn't large. It was spacious, yes. But in terms of room it wasn't nearly the size of the ballroom or the others rooms. She waited a moment, letting her eyes adjust to the new light. Keeping it down, so it wouldn't hurt the eyes of the other two. She looked over the floor, ensuring it was just rubble she was walking past and made her way towards the woman she could now tell to be a redhead.
Barricaded in the Bathroom || Sanford, Abril, and Kyrie
The darkness enveloped and surrounded Sanford. The initial first three moments were not so bad, until the realization set in that the lights were not going to magically restore themselves. From that moment on, the brunet glanced around fruitlessly, hoping that his eyes would adjust and compensate for the lack of light. Nothing happened. The doorway was entirely blocked, every ounce of light stifled. The oldness and location of the bathroom meant that there was no redemption to be found with the presence of windows.
Sanford’s imagination filled in the blanks. Normally, his dreams were colored with a warm, golden light. Everything was bathed in sparkling sand. Unicorns and fish, dinosaurs and dancers; these things floated and gloated, spreading joy and adventure in Sanford’s mind.
Only this time was different.
Crumbling dust of the earth settling was transformed into movement of dark demons. Unicorns became hellhounds, intent to sniff out and destroy him with their black, rabid mouths. The bathroom was tainted and tarnished in the absense of light and his very life depended on escaping the fiends. Each dark spindle began to pulse and mutiply, some even growing terrifying maws full of thin needle-like teeth, opening their jaws and preparing to attack just out of Sanford’s reach. In the margins of darkness, in those pockets of silence sat Sanford’s deepest, darkest fear.
“H-hello? Hello?” Sanford heard, though the voice sounded full of fright, it somehow served to ground him. At least he was not alone.
“I’m here! I glow! Come to me if you can… Who else is here?” Another voice sounded, tearing away that grounding and serving him with the knwledge that he could not answer that call. His eyes found the slight glow that the second voice was speaking of. It was in the form a dress, though it lent no light to the area around it. It was as if the dress was an exception to the vortex of darkness.
Sanford pushed himself up, glass crunching beneath his palms. Unseen tears made trails down his paniked face. The brunet opened his mouth, attempting to say something, anything. This was the time when his selective mutism needed to be just that – selective. Only nothing came out. Just more silence. Serving to cause Sanford to wonder if he existed at all. Sanford’s heart rate picked up, droning in his ears, as he swept his hands across the floor, hoping to make some noise to alert the girls to his presence.
Abril blinked once. Twice. It was dark, so horribly dark. “I-I can’t see…” she said, her tone weak once again. She’d hit her head. No, no. I can’t hit my head again. I can’t…. I can’t. After a moment, she braced both hands on the ground and pushed herself to a kneeling position.
She said she glows. Maybe that means the lights are out. Casting her eyes around the room, Abril was able to make out the faintest difference in light, like a soft glow against the blackness. But it wasn’t as strong as she thought it should be. “I hit my head… on the door…” she continued. “I think I see you… Was there anyone else in here? D’you know?”
She slid on her hands and knees towards the slightly-lit smudge. It was hard, she felt as if she might throw up and her limbs shook like nobody’s business. But she had to try. Had to get back to Gaston.
"Kinda happens when the lights go out..." Kyrie commented before thinking the other girl might actually be in distress. She was terrified for Kellan, but if there was one thing she learned from him it was how to keep herself calm when the situation demanded it. And though she didn't know the other girl, she though she sounded scared. Not that Kyrie blamed her, but if she could keep herself stable, at least more so... then she hoped it would help.
"I saw, are you okay? Other than the dark?" She asked, letting concern sound in her voice since her expression was hidden by the pitch black of their current situation. She finally found her phone and pulled it out. The screen lit up, but she'd turned it off so it was taking a moment to start up.
At the other girl's question she paused. "I- thought I saw someone else but I'm not sure... Hello? Is there anyone else in here?" She called, despite guessing if they were capable of responding they would have. "Do you think they got knocked out...? Or maybe managed to get out of here? There might be a way out..." Despite there not being any light, maybe there was a way out. She turned the phone, start up screen towards the other girl's voice hoping that until it could start up and she could get to her flashlight app, that might be enough to help the girl see the floor or something.
Picnic for Two || Kyrie & Kellan
Kellan looked over at the girl in his arms, taking a deep breath and leaning down to carefully kiss her, very chastely, barely a peck, but that was a lot for him. He’d never had romantic feelings for… anyone. For as long as he could remember, he’d always been too busy with the Court, or even looking after their little quartet. And now Kyrie was in his arms, and he loved her. He just didn’t know how to react. But he’d try his best, she deserved a lot more, and that was the least he could do to be worthy of her affections. “Positive,” he murmured, just barely nodding, meeting her eyes to see if she believed him. Kellan was better than fine, for once. Maybe that was the problem. He didn’t know what to do with feelings of his very own, whether they were good ones or bad. And these were definitely the best kind. All the scarier…
She smiled at the kiss, pleased he could manage that. She was still a little worried, the whole evening had been stranger to say the least. He'd been a bit... well uneasy thus far and that concerned her. He was always so sure of himself in all other matters. Steady. The rock for the four of them, a sort of leader for the entire court. He was one of those who made the name Court of Miracles that much more meaningful. He made things happen that, perhaps shouldn't. He made them get through winters when they certainly didn't have money. He was a the reason this court survived. Even if it wasn't a task given to him, it was one he took without hesitation. That was why she loved him, because he cared so much... he needed someone to care for him. "Good" She looked back at him. Finally content that he really did feel the same way. Even if he was afraid, or worried, or unsure, deep down... this was meant to be.
One Night Off || WTSC Grand Ball || Kyrie and Kellan
"But you just-," he couldn’t quite get over how amazing Kyrie looked, wishing he could pull off a suit better so maybe he’d look like he fit in, on her arm all night. Stepping closer to her, he carefully brushed a strand off hair off her face, leaning in to kiss her gently, the butterflies in his stomach fluttering angrily as he did. "Goddess," he murmured softly, not sure how else to describe his date. Kellan had never had to search for words like these before, never even being asked by Estelle, who didn’t trust his fashion sense.
Kyrie's cheeks soon matched her hair. It was a dream come true, honestly. Hearing Kellan speak to her like that. Telling her she was beautiful. Going to a ball together. She'd loved him fro as long as she could remember and she'd only ever dreamed that things like this would happen. But here they were. Her dream coming true. She smiled and pressed a kiss to his lips. Pulling back slightly she couldn't keep the joyous smile off her face. "I love you, Kels."
Flowers and Chocolate || Kyrie and Kellan
"Should I not have assumed?" Kellan’s bow furrowed, stomach flipping, until she told him he’d been the only one for her. That she’d like to be his girlfriend. His heart skipped a beat when she said that, and stepping a bit closer to her and kissing her gently, arms wrapping around her to pull her into a tight hug, and holding her close even when the kiss ended. "I like you. Quite a lot," he offered a shy little smile, looking at her adoringly as he repeated her words back to her, more or less.
"No no! I mean... I just know you were nervous..." She smiled at him, wrapping her arms around him happily and kissing him back. She snuggled into his arms, nestling herself against his chest. One of the few places she felt completely safe, content and just... happy. She laughed gently when he used her own words. "I'm glad, I like you quite a lot too."
Gluttonous King || Kyrie & Barrel
Barrel scowled, tilting his head in thought. Well that was weak, and a total cop out. The end was up to him? This was a story, not a ‘pick your own ending’. “But ain’t that a bit morbid? That he starved to death? I mean, he probably could have cooked for himself, but the guy probably wouldn’t even know how to turn on a stove. So if he tried, he’d probably burn himself to death.” He paused in thought, brows furrowed. “And who’s goin’ to pay the servants now with a dead king? Now they’ve got no food, and probably their families too. So, like, everyone’s goin’ to starve?” He asked, truly confused by the story, though more cruel and amused at the sudden change in story. Oh to be an ass could be fun sometimes.
"Or he could make himself a sandwich." She shrugged, she wouldn't have automatically jumped to starve to death when one was unable to cook. But hey- to each their own. "All the servants left, that's why he didn't have anyone to cook for him. Or if they were still there I'm certain they would get a new king. A better one." She said with a shrug. She hadn't put much thought into this story, usually the kids didn't care. However, this younger boy was clearly giving her a hard time. However, living in the court she was quite used to such things and hardly let it bother her.
Explanations I Joel and Kyrie
"Can’t blame you." Joel said with a smile. "The grocery store and as a bartender… attheunderworld." He said the last words very quickly and quietly hoping she wouldn’t ask. He knew the reputation the underworld had and he didn’t want Kyrie to get the wrong idea.
"The Underworld?" Kyrie was a clown, which worked with kids. She could speak baby, gibberish, mime, and she could also speak realllly fast, so despite his attempt to fool her. She heard it. "Are you a bartender or a stripper?" She waggled her eyebrows at him. Grinning wide. "I'm kidding, it actually seems like it'd get the wealthy people so, be a good bartender and maybe you'll get some good tips."
Barricaded in the Bathroom || Sanford, Abril, and Kyrie
Sanford was dressed in his finest clothing; it was not anything luxurious, just a simple suit, but it was all he owned. He was working his way away from the main chamber of the ballroom, towards the bathrooms. The brunet thought he saw Jack heading towards the restrooms and wondered how the boy was doing after their talk. Seeing how Jack was doing was one of the only reasons that he actually came to this ball. It was not really his scene.
Just before he reached the men’s room, Sanford felt noticeable shaking followed by a scream from behind the closed women’s bathroom door. Acting on his intrinsic need to help others, he shakily burst into the bathroom where he would normally never venture. His steps were uneasy, sloppy, from the effect of the shaking earth.
Once inside the bathroom, with two other girls, everything seemed to get progressively worse. There was a strong, thunder clapping noise, something Sanford might associate with a car accident. The tiled floor cracked and shattered as the floor beneath him seemed to roll. The brunet fell forward to his knees at the unbalance.
Sanford looked up at the ceiling in worry, dust rained into the air of the bathroom followed by the sound of surging water. All Sanford could do in the moment was wonder whether the ground would split open beneath him and swallow him whole, or if the building would cave in and kill him first. A strange, eerie creaking emitted from the doorway behind him and Sanford threw a worried glace over his shoulder, still bracing himself on his hands and knees.
Everything in the room was shaking, the floor was shrieking under the stress of the earthquake; by this point, Sanford acknowledged what was happening as an earthquake. The pounding of the earth and building got weaker and weaker – but not the pounding of his heart. And if he thought his heart was racing before, the bathroom was plunged into darkness and the brunet truly felt fear take hold.
Abril had just needed a second to clear her head. This was the largest group of people she had been surrounded by since she remembered the truth about Storybrooke, and it was and it was overwhelming at best. She kept glancing around at the people she saw twirling and laughing, or at others who simply leaned against walls and tables and looked as if they wished to disappear. Every single one of them had once been someone else. But who?
The question had seemed to swirl in her mind, distracting her from the good time tat she should be having with Garret. Gaston. Whatever. So it was that she had briefly excused herself and made her way to the bathroom where she could take a breather and reorient herself. There was another woman inside, someone who looked to be around her own age, and Abril managed a weak smile while she turned towards the mirror.
That’s when the shaking started.
Her first instinct was to grasp the bottom of the marble countertop tightly as she tried to figure out what was happening. There was a groaning around her, a bone-chilling sound of creaking stone. She didn’t understand. The shaking intensified, and she lost her grip on the stone and fell to the hard floor, bashing her knee as she did.
She swore. Where was the other person? She looked wildly about, spotting the girl’s vibrant hair right as a stall door swung open and blocked her view. They both screamed. Or maybe it was just Abril?
She struggled to her feet and ran towards the girl. The floor felt strange, as if it had turned into a water-bed when it used to be stone. The door swung in the opposite direction -towards Abril- and clipped her on the forehead. Everything went dark.
Seconds… (minutes?) passed, but Abril was in a daze on the floor. At some point the shaking stopped, but she still couldn’t see. Had she gone blind? The thought was terrifying. “H-hello?” she tried, wincing at the shakiness of her own voice. “Hello?” she tried again, forcing her tone to be stronger.
Kyrie and Kellan had splurged for this event, both getting new dress clothes and actually just doing things without worrying about money for once in their lives. Well Kellan's life. Kyrie wasn't quite as stingy with her money but she also didn't feel the need to feed the entire town. She knew those who were hungry would come to them, but Kellan wanted to feed them all. She didn't mind, she just was pleased to have one night where he actually treated himself.
The redhead had spent the evening dancing away with Kellan and enjoying the free food and drink. Unfortunately for her that meant that she needed to use the bathroom. Plus freshening up her hair and make up couldn't hurt. And that was exactly what she was doing when the other girl smiled at her so she smiled back. A friendly smile, but she didn't get the chatty vibe from the other red head so she simply kept to herself and replied her lipstick.
Her attention was draw away from the mirror when a shake made her hand dip and miss the outline of her lips. She barely fixed it before she shoved the lipstick in her bag when a man burst in. She looked up to catch the eye of the other girl, the floor shaking and groaning when the door suddenly slammed into the space between them. She yelped as it slammed into her chest sending her backwards. Winded or not, instincts kicked in and she curled herself up, tumbling backwards to land back-first into the wall.
She groaned but uncurled herself, relatively unharmed. Dropping her head against the wall she waited for her breath to even out. She was a little dazed and failed to notice the damages to the bathroom, or anything else. But as she steadied her spinning head and shook off the surprise she went into a mild panic. Where was Kellan? Estelle? Joel? Was the other girl okay? Then a female voice cut through her thoughts. "I'm here!" She looked down at the dress she was wearing and slowly pulled herself to stand. "I glow! Come to me if you can... Who else is here?" She couldn't see, but she was sure they could see her at the very least. That would get them here while she fished around in her purse for a cellphone that could be used to light up the room.
Finders, Keepers || Estelle and Kellan [Feat. Joel & Kyrie]
"See corn." Estelle shot a look at Joel while pointing to Kyrie. "She eats corn. I told you that she eats vegetables. I don’t misinterpret people. She eats vegetables, she’s one of those people. Do we even have vegetables?" She skipped over to Joel and laid her head on his shoulder, sighing dramatically. "Joel, it’s your turn to cook and I’ve had a really long day. You should be nice to me." When Kellan called her princess her eyebrows instantly rose and she shook her head. "Kellan don’t even." She said before moving away from Joel and going to sit on the counter instead. "I’m not a bad hostess, I’m actually a very good one, I just don’t consider the two of you guests… I don’t consider you a guest. I still like Kyrie, so she can be my guest. Kyrie come here." Estelle held her arms out and made a grabbing motion with her hands. "You’re so far away and I think that If I’m not careful Kellan is going to take you away and I’ll never see you again. Then who am I going to talk to? Kellan? Ew no… He’s judgmental and grouchy. Joel? Maybe, but what if I want to talk about him?" She shrugged while grinning at Kyrie. You’re needed." Estelle swung her legs back and forth against the counter while shrugging. "Nothing, they’re taking care of it, you just need to stand there and look gorgeous."
"You can have vegetables I’ll take pasta." He said to Kellan, turning up the heat of the fire. "Kyrie, it’s fine don’t worry. I think Kellan and I have it covered." He glanced over at Estelle. "Oh and what exactly do you need to say about me?" He asked, a twinkle in his eye. "I’m not that unbearable to live with am I? Because honestly I thought I was doing a pretty good job."
"Corn it is, then," Kellan nodded slightly after his minute of silence, listening to everyone in an attempt to figure out what he was supposed to do. Walking over to the fridge, he pulled out the vegetable, along with the few others that Joel and Estelle had in the fridge, deciding he’d make sure they were eating healthy, at least tonight. "Love you too, Estelle," he said, the words sounding questionable at best. "And good luck, Kyrie. Hope you make it." Estelle was a handful, sometimes. Most of the time.
She nodded at the chorus of their decided vegetable and grinned. Once Kellan was busy helping cook she moved back lean against the counter near Estelle, a mischievous grin on her face before she reached up and patted Estelle on the head. "I'm right here. Don't worry I won't let him take me away. Well not for too long. Plus, he wouldn't dare leave me alone and he'd have to bring me. We all know he couldn't go a day without checking in on any of is. Right Kels?" She grinned, she meant it all in the most loving manner. He was the protector of the park. They all knew that.
