oh my gosh alice coughs when taking a puff from the caterpillar’s pipe but alfred doesn’t because he’s probably already taken every single drug they can get their hands on to ease his tuberculosis pain and that’s why he has a better tolerance for the pipe

my favorite thing in the alice by heart slime tutorial is when in the song “isn’t it a trial” we can briefly see the king of hearts doing a silly little dance. it kills me because EVERYONE ELSE has like. Synced up choreo. he’s such a supportive husband

okay don’t get me wrong i love alice by heart, it’s definitely in my top 3 musicals (if not my very favourite) but i think how alice gets out of wonderland in “i’ve shrunk enough” is a little… lazy? like idk i think they could have done better and made her getting out of wonderland a little more meaningful than just letting her say “uhm nope i’m done”. and as my hyperfixation is very much at its peak right now i couldn’t stop thinking about it and i have some ideas on how to make it more impactful (in my opinion)!

okay so the entire trial is the same just up until the end of “do you think we think you’re alice?” where the queen of hearts orders the guards to chop alice’s head off. the freezing doesn’t happen (it’s so super cool but it just doesn’t really work for the plot), here, they try to get alice but she runs, starting “i’ve shrunk enough”. the song is still the same but now during it the choreography points to alice trying to flee her fate while the wonderland characters just kind of gang up on her. the cheshire cat and eventually alfred still help her, but at the end all the wonderland characters are circled around alice, alfred and the cheshire cat. when alice would sing “and time is up!” now she only gets to the “and”, being interrupted by alfred saying “time is up.” he was shielding alice from the wonderland characters but drops his hands and says “i can’t protect you anymore, alice.” after which he breaks to the floor in a coughing fit. so alice is like “no, alfred, i can’t do this without you, they’ll chop my head off!” and the cheshire cat, who was standing with her back facing alice, turns to face her and (reluctantly, like she’s kind of being forced by an invisible hand) joins the other wonderland characters saying “as long as you force us to be here, we can’t leave.” and alice just has the realisation and says out loud “alfred is dying.” and alfred physically reacts to this, shrivelling up, cringing and coughing and crying on the ground. and alice says “wonderland will never save me. wonderland can never protect me from the reality that alfred is dying.” and with this acceptance, all the wonderland characters just slowly fade away into the wings, leaving just alfred and alice. then the musical continues like it does, with “still - reprise”, then all the rest.

I totally agree with this ngl, I love I’ve shrunk enough but I understand how it can feel rushed. I think this rewrite is a great take on the plot!
