I am infinitely indebted to my close friends who donāt tell me IāmĀ āgood enough.ā Instead, they constantly push (or rather, kick) me out of my comfort zone by saying,Ā āYou can do better,ā because they believe in me more than I do.

Christina Aguilera releases a song with repeating chorus line, "waiting for a change.ā John Mayer has a song titled "Waiting for the World to Change." White people can afford to wait, but people of color have to demand and make change for ourselves. This is not to detract from the intention for Christinaās song to financially aid Orlando victims and families, just that the words seem so passively hopeful.
I wasn't born a boy or a girl. Nobody is. Gender is assigned to us; gender is a social construct.

2016, i.e.Ā āmehā
I keep telling myself not to make resolutions since they practically vanish to thin air when I write them. Iām trying. Here is an incomplete list. 1. Reduce my usage of parentheses in writing (ask: are they really necessary?) 2. Erase āliterallyā andĀ ābasicallyā from my vocabulary, unless intended for the appropriate context. 3. Help my parents more--they are aging faster than I think. 4. Recognize when I judge people to make myself feel better; itās poisonous. 5. Practice typing faster and accurately. 6. Eat fewer sweets. Unrelated but related to teeth -- Braces? or no. 7. Believe in myself even if I want to resist it and would rather consider myself ānot smart enough,ā otherwise known as mental laziness and fear of failure. 8. Be brave.
a practical guide to becoming a true pun master
accept that no pun is actually Good, but that the true nature of a good pun is to be so terrible that it becomes good.
say every pun that occurs to you. iām so serious about this, sometimes the most well received puns will be ones you considered not saying.
ALWAYS laugh at your own puns, even if nobody else is. (especially if nobody else is.)
know that you are hilarious. puns are a limitless resource and you have taken it as your duty to bring this gift to humanity. you are a hero.

Queen - Who wants to live forever
Thereās no time for us Thereās no place for us What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away from us Who wants to live forever Who wants to live foreverā¦.? Thereās no chance for us Itās all decided for us This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us Who wants to live forever Who wants to live forever? Who dares to love forever? When love must die But touch my tears with your lips Touch my world with your fingertips And we can have forever And we can love forever Forever is our today Who wants to live forever Who wants to live forever? Forever is our today Who waits forever anyway?

If thereās one song I want played at my funeral, it would be this one. I havenāt heard this is ages and now Iām crying.

Race: a moment
Iām tired of this āI donāt see colorā bullshit. To call the world monochromatic denies the celebration of difference and cultures. There is a distinction between saying āI donāt see colorā and āI donāt (consciously) factor race into what I say, do, think, or feel.ā Iām sure people have heard it said enough times that yes, in fact, race is a social construct--but it still exists. Race exists because it contrasts non-whites in relation to white people. Ifemelu, a character in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichieās Americanah, observes wryly that she did not know she was black until she came to America from Nigeria. Race exists; if you do nothing else, at least acknowledge it.
