Brenda Romero, an influential developer who has worked on everything from Jagged Alliance to Dungeons and Dragons, sounded off in no uncertain terms about her disdain for E3's booth babes, noting how uncomfortable she felt while walking the show floor at an event dedicated to the industry she helped create. "Why do I feel this way?" she asked, heatedly. "I founded this fucking industry, you motherfuckers!"

This isn’t a matter of generating new content for players but a matter of letting them play the content you have already given them in the manner they please. Start, stop, go back, and rewatch or even rewind. I know a lot of games want to be movies, so why not adopt even the limited amount of interaction they take as a standard?

This brief article looks at a new mode in the upcoming Borderlands 2 which is supposed to cater to non-gamers or gamers who are inexperienced and unskilled:
Officially, the term is “Best Friends Forever,” but internally—and to the press—the game’s lead designer John Hemingway calls it “Girlfriend Mode”, a term so casually sexist in its implication of how women must be bad at videogames that it seemingly dismisses the fact women make up half the population of gamers overall and are every bit as capable of being gamers as their male counterparts.
I’ve had to do so many facepalms because of the games industry lately that I’m starting to bruise.

Home's original sound track is now up on sound cloud - free to listen and download. Since Home doesn't contain any words - written nor spoken (nope, not even the menu) - music was an important part of telling our story and setting the mood. I think Daniel did a great job helping me with the music and sound effects. Have a listen!
Never has it been stated that “A woman can’t make a game for women!”. It just doesn’t happen very often. That isn’t anyone’s fault.

Last week I hung out with two friends (both male and female) and we were watching what they both described as a ''chick film''. To them, the film fell into this category because it was about falling in love and, according to them, this is what females dream about.
I find this way of categorizing foolish. Whether somebody - male or female - likes a film or not is determined by his or her personality. Personality, as in; not by his or her sex.
Same goes for games.
So when someone says "if women have a problem with women generally being objectified in video games, they should make their own video games for women" I just don't see the logic? Since when are there games "for men" and games "for women", to begin with? Since when is it only women who have a problem with the way this industry embodies gender stereotypes?
My friends claimed that this "chick film" was not only for chicks, and they confessed all chicks might not even like it - and maybe even some guys would.
The question that follows is; if you yourself say that this "chick film" can be enjoyed both by chicks and guys, what is the reason to call it a "chick film"?
What is the reason to think that there are games that needs to be created for females or males specifically?
Apparently players can choose female characters in the single player campaign but not in the multiplayer mode. If this is the case, the developers have female characters but choose not to include them. I find this weird, as I can see no logic reason for doing this.
Some people have reacted to this and started a petition to make female characters available in MPM as well. Even more people have reacted to the petition and screams that this is just more of that evil feminist bullshit coming from whining girls.

Actually, the sustaining of gender stereotypes is one of the biggest issues in this industry.

Male gaze in video games
This is yet another article that kept me up reading (to my fellow classmates; if reading about the male gaze does not tempt you to read it, maybe the fact that it includes a mention of one of our former teachers will?).
One thing that makes me wrinkle my nose a bit though is when someone says something like "imagine how you'd feel as a female developer at E3 when X try to sell their game by having women in push up bras standing around". To be honest, I'd hope it to feel just as embarrassing to females as to males...
So, if you’ve ever wondered what people meant when they talked about “rape culture,” or you didn’t really see the problem with the “sexy nuns” trailer, or if you don’t know why telling people you are going to “rape” them in online shooters is a problem, this piece will be extremely educational. Please read it (and try to keep your privilege in check while you do) and I think we can all learn something.

PLaytesting!
Someone thought it was a horror game. The fog was "green, ugly and weird" and the FPS gamer just jumped around. Play testing is always full of surprises. Curious to see what results we get tomorrow when a new group of people arrive to test Home!
