AoS March Madness

I did my version with villains knowing exactly who was going to win, but I did not expect Garrett to make it to the final (it was a hard choice between him and Hive).

March Madness 2022, round 1

Hello lovelies! To kick off @agentsofchallenges March Madness, @tomatobookworm and I are trying out a new bracket method.

We are splitting this bracket down the middle, and for round 1, I have the left side. Tomato will be posting her side today as well, and once we've seen each other's, we'll switch sides. She will write fic beginnings for four of the eight fic snippets I've written for my round 1 tropes, and I will write four of her eight, then we'll switch again and add to two of the four stories, and so on...

I'm really looking forward to this! My eight tropes (and the pairings I decided to write them for) were:

We're not taking requests for this, but I think I speak for both of us in saying that cheerleading is never wasted. Snippets below the cut!

Roommates (Raina/Alisha— SHIELD-free AU, college AU)

Raina and Alisha are students at the same university, but somehow they'd never met until they showed up for their study-abroad orientation after arriving for a semester in Kunming, China. Both are studying Chinese at the same school and will be two of the four students sharing an apartment near campus, but the similarities end there. Alisha is an early riser, a fitness freak, and a good cook, all things Raina is not. Raina is rather gifted in Chinese, however, and Alisha could use an after-hours tutor.

Bed sharing (Kara/Kora— SHIELD-free AU, HS au)

They'd met before but never talked--Kora was new to school and shy enough, and Kara didn't seem to talk to just about anyone. With an upcoming senior trip to Washington DC looming, Kora still didn’t know anyone to ask to be her roommate, so the teacher paired them up when there was no more time to put it off. In DC, Kara is standoffish as ever until the night Kora wakes up to the other girl having a very obvious nightmare.

Mutual pining (Vic/Izzy—high school teacher AU)

Victoria is a successful school administrator and should absolutely not be pining after her school’s gym teacher. Lucky for her, the gym teacher is also trying to convince herself that she should not be into the principal.

Blind date (Tess/Piper—SHIELD-free AU)

Daisy is getting tired of seeing her friend Piper toughing it out as the only single person in their group of friends, so she starts polling her co-workers for good matches to set Piper up with. Luckily, Deke has a single friend that might be just Piper’s type, and amazingly, both women agree to a blind date. What could go wrong?

Fake dating (Bobbi/Izzy—footballer AU)

Bobbi’s reporter ex is back in town and has been assigned to cover her team’s journey through the playoffs for the world cup. On top of that, he's dating a freaking model these days. Bobbi can’t stand the thought of him seeing her still single while following her around for likely weeks and is venting about such to her teammates in the locker room after practice. One of them, Izzy, has just an idea to kill two birds with one stone.

Kissed to keep quiet (Bobbi/Raina—James Bond AU)

There’s a reason that 00 agents are supposed to work alone—there’s not usually enough room for two of their egos in one car, one closet, or even one plane. When an operation puts them in closer quarters than usual, some unexpected circumstances start blurring the lines between rivals and…whatever else there is for them to be. But definitely not friends.

Found family (Tess-centric—Post-canon AU where Flint AND Tess came back to the timeline together)

Mack, Elena, and Flint are helping Tess decorate the room she’s going to live in with them. Tess is both thrilled and overwhelmed, but her new family is good at walking her through the many adjustments to life with new clothes, carpet, iPhones, and relative safety.

Clothes sharing (Quakerider—Post s4a)

After Robbie disappeared with Morrow, Daisy was packing up the Charger to take it back to Gabe when she found a shirt of Robbie’s in the trunk. It has motor oil stains on the sleeves and could fit two of her and even smells like smoke. Daisy has never once considered throwing it away.

For @agentsofchallenges March Madness 2022 challenge, @loved-the-stars-too-fondly and I are doing the tropes card together! 😊 For round 1, we have each taken one side of the bracket and wrote 8 fic premises. Here is my entry:

Body swap - romantic Mack/Elena. Post canon. During an encounter with an 0-8-4, Mack and Elena accidentally switched bodies. To preserve the mission, Mack had to learn to use Elena’s powers quickly, while Elena must act as the director without arousing suspicions.

Time travel - platonic May & Jemma. Season 5/loop AU. Jemma was a biologist, but May never doubted she could invent time travel, not when the weight of the world and the lives of their friends depended on it. After working in secret for years in the Lighthouse, Jemma and May were ready to go back in time and change the future. They might be old and grey now, but they were still S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and they would protect humanity or die trying.

Unrequited love - romantic May/Elena. No S.H.I.E.L.D. AU. After moving to a new city for a job at the art museum, Elena decided the quickest way to meet new people was to join a martial arts studio. She soon found a sparring partner and friend in Melinda May. As Melinda showed her around the city, Elena realized she wanted romance as well as friendship.

Secret dating - romantic Lincoln/Daisy. No S.H.I.E.L.D. AU. Pop star Skye had millions of fans and plenty of number one hits. Off stage, Daisy liked to keep her life private, particularly her boyfriend Lincoln, who both sent her flying with joy and kept her grounded in reality. Lincoln liked his normal life, but he loved Daisy more, and lately he’d been wondering exactly what the secrecy meant to her.

Meet cute - romantic Fitz/Daisy/Jemma. No S.H.I.E.L.D. AU. Daisy was fully prepared to murder whoever set off the building’s fire alarm at midnight. Jemma from across the hall agreed a little too enthusiastically and had lots of ideas for undetectable poisons. Fitz, the cute boy next door, looked alarmed. Maybe they should talk more about different kinds of biology and chemistry.

Kiss cam - romantic Daisy/Jemma. Season 1 AU. Skye didn’t go to fancy spy school, but she knew the first rule of an undercover mission was to avoid notice. Fitz and Simmons clearly skipped that class because when the kiss cam turned on them, they were too busy arguing they were platonic friends. The target was going to look up any second now. Skye had to take one for the team and kiss Simmons. The camera swung away. Simmons was still kissing her back.

Dream sequence - platonic May & Daisy. No S.H.I.E.L.D. AU. Melinda May was not afraid of ghosts. With a super low price and a sound home inspection, Zephyr House was a bargain, alleged haunting or no. She did not change her mind when the resident ghost, Daisy, began visiting her dreams. In fact, Melinda was rather glad to make a new friend.

Rivals - romantic Kora/Victoria Hand. Post-1989 AU where Kora learned to control her powers on her own and didn’t die. After defeating Hydra agents who tried to kidnap her mother and baby sister, Kora would be happy to go back to Afterlife with her family. Mama had a soft spot for S.H.I.E.L.D.’s founder though, and the world would be a safer place for little Daisy if they could root out Hydra. The Elders and top S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel agreed to cooperate. It didn’t mean Kora had to like working with a regular human partner. Agent Hand thought she knew the best way to fight Hydra? Kora would show her how it was done.

For round 2, we will now switch sides, pick 4 matchup winners, and write 300 words for each fic premise. We will switch sides again for round 3 and so on. We are not taking requests but cheerleading is always welcome!

Today I'm posting a fic for @agentsofchallenges Hot Shield Summer and filling the square "Embarrassing firsts meeting" for @marvelfluffbingo!

Beach Angel Rating: G Ship: Lincoln Campbell/Daisy Johnson Words: 1676 Warning: None

Summary: Daisy is ready for a nice day at the beach, but an accident with a frisbee to the head leads her to something even better

Daisy had never planned to meet an angel at the beach. At least, she was pretty sure it was an angel.

It had started out as a simple day at the seaside. Daisy and her friends had decided they needed a break, so they packed up some food and drinks and escaped to the sea. Laying out on her towel, covered in sunscreen, it was exactly what Daisy had needed.

When some cute guys asked if they wanted to play some frisbee, Daisy jumped at the chance. This was just the kind of meet-cute she had always dreamed of.

And it had all been going great until someone had accidentally hit her in the head. With a frisbee.

The next thing she knew, Daisy felt herself being shaken gently awake.

“Hey there, can you hear me?”

Daisy groaned weakly. “I just need to sleep in a little longer.”

She heard a laugh. “I’m afraid that’s not possible.” She felt a hand cradle the back of her head.

“Oh, that feels nice,” she said, leaning into the hand.

“I’m just checking for bumps.”

“Daisy!” She recognized this voice as her friend Jemma. “Are you alright?”

She finally opened her eyes. The person who had been tending to her was standing above her. His hair was glowing in the sunlight, almost forming a halo around his head.

“Are you an angel?” she asked him.

He laughed again. “Sorry. I’m just the lifeguard.”

Soccer Date - a Staticquake ficlet

Summary: Daisy takes advantage of having a day off at the beginning of summer to take Lincoln to a professional women's soccer game.

“I can’t believe you’ve never been to a game before.”

Lincoln laughed at Daisy’s affronted attitude. “What can I say? I was always more of a baseball and basketball fan.”

“Respectable choices but still. Soccer is a classic. Didn’t you play when you were five?”

Lincoln couldn’t help rolling his eyes. “Yeah, and so did half of all other five-year-olds.” Daisy laughed in agreement. “Anyways, then I played t-ball, then basketball before landing back in baseball in high school so those two became more important to me.”

“I imagine you looked nice in a baseball uniform.”

The glint in her eyes when she said this made him smile and tug her closer as they continued walking around the stadium to find their seating section. “I did look pretty hot.”

She laughed slapping his chest playfully causing them both to laugh.

They finally reached their section and sat back to watch the end of the teams’ pre-game practice.

“So how did you get into soccer anyways? I know the nuns didn’t let you play.”

Daisy smiled. “No, they certainly did not. But I did play with other kids during recess in elementary school and I had a soccer elective during freshman year of high school. Plus, before I ran away, I would hang around after school a lot on the bleachers and I definitely preferred watching soccer practices over football or lacrosse.”

Lincoln nodded in agreement. He was never a huge fan of either the American staple sport or the ‘preppy’ sport of lacrosse.

“It might also have to do with the fact that I had a crush on one of our defenders on the girl’s team but that’s beside the point,” Daisy said with a wistful look on her face.

Lincoln laughed. “Respect. We’ve all been there before.”

Daisy looked at him with a glint in her eyes. “Pray tell, what did you do just to get a chance to watch a pretty girl play a sport?”

He grinned leaning back in his seat and throwing his arm around the back of her seat. “I may have convinced one of my buddies to come with me to a couple volleyball games in college because one of the cute girls from my bio class was on the team.”

Daisy grinned. “Smart and sporty. Good choice.”

He leaned in a little closer and locked eyes with Daisy. “What can I say, I’ve always been attracted to incredible and strong women.” He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips but pulled away before she could deepen it. “And you, Daisy, are the strongest and most amazing woman I’ve ever met.”

He smiled at her instant blush and her effort to quickly look back at the field but he gently guided her face back to his for one more kiss.

“You’re a huge sap,” she laughed pulling away and leaning into his side as she focused on the players again.

“Only for you. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t love you. Although now it makes a lot more sense of why you chose to bring us to a women’s game instead of a men’s game.”

He loved seeing the playful twinkle in her eye as she replied, “I figured we both would enjoy admiring some beautiful and talented women.”

“How considerate of you.”

“You’ll have fun don’t worry. But thank you for spending your day off here with me. I love you too.”

“No place I’d rather be.” Lincoln grinned, “but next time we are going to a baseball game.”

Daisy’s laugh made his heart soar. “Deal.”

Soccer may not be his favorite sport but seeing her so happy during their first day off of summer may turn him into a soccer fan after all.

For @agentsofchallenges Hot Shield Summer, I have a Philinda The Mummy au! Fighting a mummy in the heat of the desert seems like a very on-brand thing for Shied to do, tbh.

Phil Coulson has a day job he’s passionate about: working as a librarian at the Cairo Museum. It’s there his friend brings in a key and map claiming to lead to a long lost city, Hamunaptra, where ancient history (and a massive fortune) await to be discovered once again. He enlists the help of Melinda May, a mercenary serving time in a Cairo prison to lead him and his friend into the dessert in search of Hamunaptra. It’s there they discover there’s more than history and treasure buried in the sand…

(Also, special thanks to @immhungry for the brilliant suggestion of making Hive into the mummy!! You’re the best, babe!)

from nightmares to daydreams

Happy Father’s Day! This is my last fic for my holiday mini-boom, and there is a scene where this little family gets to go to the park and eat ice cream which (I think) qualifies it for @agentsofchallenges‘ hot shield summer!

Summary: Father’s Day is a complicated holiday in Leopold’s life, but he can appreciate getting a few extra days with his daughter to go to the park and celebrate with their usual traditions. This year, however, he has another person in his life to make sure he gets to enjoy the day.

The smell of cinnamon drifted from the kitchen to the living room with the sound of gentle music from the countertop speaker. It was still early, the sun barely starting to filter in through the blinds that covered the window over the sink, and Leopold had most of the apartment to himself. He’d woken up early, and instead of wasting time trying to get back to sleep or waking up his girlfriend, he’d shuffled out to the kitchen in sweatpants and a comfortable shirt to start breakfast. Between the playlist he’d turned on and the French toast in the pan in front of him and the knowledge that two of the people he cared about the most were right down the hall, it was one of the most peaceful Saturday mornings he’d ever experienced.

He hummed along when the guitar started on the next song, smiling to himself in the quiet. It wasn’t often that he got the time to himself like this, to just relax and appreciate the routine that his life had settled into. Only six months ago, his work-life balance was non-existent, and everything revolved around the same person it had since he was a kid. So many years of his life had been lost to that old cycle, trying to please someone who would never be happy no matter what he did, sacrificing so many of the things that made him happy in his useless attempts, watching his friends around him live their lives while his own seemed to stand still. Grant had gotten married and had a child in the same time that Jemma had found someone new and gotten engaged, and Leopold had been there, still a part of their lives but so far behind.

Another one for @agentsofchallenges Hot Shield Summer - Pipsy + Disney.

Daisy mentions that she's never been to Disney - obviously, how would she? - and it breaks Piper's heart. So they go on their anniversary, and Piper makes it her job to give Daisy the FULL experience. From trying ALL the snacks, wearing the ears, probably hunting the entire park for pride pins, riding all the rides, everything.

This one's for @agentsofchallenges hot shield summer challenge! I've been sitting on the Hope Alya and Robin Academy AU for so long now so I figured I'd let them finally finish their semester and have an amazing summer vacation. Here's some lil headcanons to go along with this:

Alya absolutely is taking a full course load over the summer. Duh. But she somehow still finds time to hang out with Hope and Robin every week in June and half of July before going back to England for the remainder of the summer to spend time with her family.

Hope spends her summer in biker shorts and sports bras. This is the default and there is absolutely no variant from this outfit. You'll find her hiking and biking and lifting and swimming and playing every sport under the sun - and will often convince Alya and Robin to join her. She also picks up a part time babysitting job with some hyperactive kids that almost give her a run for her money.

Robin remains pale as heck! She spends such a large amount of her newfound free time indoors painting that she forgets the world around her for a bit - a welcome change from the burden her powers tend to put on her. She fills her summer taking on small photography jobs as well such as family and senior photos for a little extra money. She also takes time in the summer to reconnect with Daisy and May. (May is over the moon to spend time with her two daughters and always clears her schedule for them.)

The three spend just about all of their weekends at the beach! Believe it or not Alya LOVES the beach (it's a prime time to study the fish up close and personal!). Hope's go to beach activity is for sure volleyball, and when Alya and Robin eventually get tired she'll find some cute girls a few dunes over to play with. Robin always burns to a crisp no matter how much sunscreen she slathers on, and you can most likely find her building little sandcastles under her giant umbrella.

Hope's sweet tooth regularly brings them to an ice cream shop. Her choice flavor is anything fruity - strawberry cheesecake, rainbow sorbet, blackberry, etc. Alya is a mint chocolate chip kinda gal, and Robin prefers lemon Italian ice over any ice cream any day - sweets aren't always her thing.

Some time in late August Coulson and May would host a summer party/barbecue for the whole SHIELD family to get together for. The girls get to meet each others' families - well, they sort of already knew everyone but family relations are, as expected, difficult to maintain in the SHIELD dynamic - and spend the whole night having fun with everyone they love.
