nearly 4 years after catws and am i still bitter that sharons role got divided up between the entire roster of female characters ??? yes. am i bitter because everyone hails the russo brothers as some divine writer of women but cannot give women an interesting role of their own?? yes. am i bitter because m*cu fans cry out for “rep!!1!! strong female characters!!!” but when literally served an opportunity (albeit an opportunity in the form of a white woman) they turn it down and diminish her by calling her nothing but a beard?? yes. i dont even stan sharon that much anymore but my god why do people still hate her this much its 2018 shes already been basically written out of the mcu thanks to you bitches
listen teamcap is nothing without sharon carter and i still hate the mcu and the fandom for doing her so dirty

What happen about Sharon Carter/Emily VanCamp, what the shit?
She wasn’t invited back for any more MCU films despite her character being pretty essential to Steve’s storyline.
She wasn’t treated really nicely by Chris Ev/ans either. They obviously didn’t get along very well during the filming and Evans seemed to have a royal stick up his butt about getting her as a love interest because he was still on the Stegg/y boat, which I totally understand. I’d be sore too but he didn’t act really mature about it and continued to toss her under the bus. He talked back to her during press tours, called Staron ‘icky’ to her face, and really wasn’t too mature about it and made me lose a lot of respect for him. Not many of the other cast members talked nicely about her either except for RDJ and Anthony Mackie. (I have a suspicion Mackie REALLY wanted Sharon as Sam’s love interest.) She also got moved to Team Iron Man promo which many people were saying it’s because Sharon was supposed to be a wild card, which I’m sure that’s most of it but it’s still interesting that she NEVER did any press with Team Cap specifically. @clayappuzzo or @baloney-blake might be able to give you more info on that if you want.
Evans also never really had anything nice to say about her and he’s always been great about all of his co-stars. It just seemed like he threw her right under the bus and didn’t defend her from the onslaught of crazy online hate she got.

Look, no one gave me the idea. I decided to ask Amy to marry me all on my own on April 28th.
History wants so badly for Cleopatra to be beautiful. Like they can’t conceive of Rome being intimidated by anything less
because being a linguist, fleet commander, and powerful ruler doesn’t matter, only her looks
Her Arab contemporaries raved about her being very interested and knowledgeable in the sciences.
She completely reformed the system in Alexandria, and Egypt at large; making it much more of a functional powerhouse.
She did what 300 years of her ancestors couldn’t: Managed to get the support of both the Greek AND Egyptian subjects she ruled.
There is a sculpture that has been identified as her, through comparisons to coins minted under her rule, that proves beyond a doubt that she wasn’t particularly beautiful.
It isn’t that people just happen to believe it by mistake. Rome was fucking terrified of her and painted her as a vapid, scheming, beautiful, sex obsessed queen to discredit her to their people. She was a threat, and that was how they handled it. The unfortunate thing is that that is the most surviving record of her. A smear campaign against one of the smartest, most powerful women in human history.
This is a woman who became her father’s co-ruler at nearly 14 years old in order to train for her actual ascension to the throne, who was forced to marry her own siblings in order to keep her power, and it’s widely believed that she poisoned them so she could rule alone. She’s a Pharaoh who led Egypt into a new era of wealth, who went fearlessly into war to protect her rule and Egypt’s independence from the Roman empire, a woman who took her own life rather than face being raped and tortured by her conquerors, knowing full well that she was leaving her surviving children in their uncertain mercy. Cleopatra is one of the most interesting, morally ambiguous, complexing historical figures we have and the media has turned her into a tantalizing sex object for the male gaze.
Even after Cleopatra died her influence on those around her lived on: her daughter, Cleopatra Selene, was the only child of Cleopatra’s to live to adulthood, and she became queen of Mauretania along with her husband Juba and it’s believed they married for love, which was extremely rare for that time period, especially among nobles/the upper class. Not only did she grow up in the house of her mother’s worst enemy and technical murderer, but she still went on to become a queen who possessed an equal amount of political power as her husband, even having her face minted on coins on the opposite side of his likeness, showing they were equal rulers.
Cleopatra and her influence on history, and her daughter’s legacy, have both been brushed aside in favour of the sexy Cleopatra visage. It’s bullshit. Egyptian mythology is interesting and vivid, and full of powerful women and it’s bullshit that we take some of the most powerful women in Africa’s history and try to turn them into fashion icons or sluts who only ruled through toying with men.
I LIVE FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW THIS, people still refuse to believe that a woman can/could have achieved anything without beauty or fucking magical powers
theres so many things wrong here i want to Scream hollywood is such a fuckjng mess
you all know why lord of the flies was written about little boys? golding very specifically believed that 1) he was not qualified to write about little girls as he had never experienced being one 2) he did not believe that the same events would transpire if it had been girls because he thought boys behaviour more likely to paint a picture of (male dominated) society and its problems. you can’t keep a female version of the story ‘faithful’ to the book because then it would be unfaithful to what the author was originally trying to portray. why dont you go and spit on goldings grave while you’re at it too.
Wasn’t LOTF also written in response to an older book that kind of depicted British boys/men as the golden children of reason and civilization, and Golding, who taught at a boys’ school, was like “lol have you met any actual boys”
The book is The Coral Island, by R.M. Ballantyne. Golding was obsessed with it as a boy, and returning to it as an adult saw, and was horrified by, its imperialist mindset. Lord of the Flies is a response to his boyhood love for the book as well as a critique of it. Lord of the Flies isn’t just a critique of toxic masculinity, it’s an exploration of how that intersects with the British class system and colonialism.
