welsh mythology: arawn

Arawn was the king of the otherworld realm, Annwn. In the Mabinogi, Pwyll was hunting a deer, which was also being hunted by Arawn. In penance, Arawn and Pwyll exchanged places for a year and a day. 

In Welsh folklore, the Cwn Annwn, or Hounds of Annwn, ride the skies in autumn, winter and early spring. Annwn was later Christianised as an early form of hell.
