Wealth of World’s Billionaires Surges Past $7 Trillion

The combined net worth of the world’s billionaires has reached a new high in 2015 of $7.05 trillion, according to the latest compilation published by Forbes magazine on Monday.

There are a record 1,826 billionaires, each with an average wealth of $3.8 billion. Relative to last year, the world’s billionaires have increased their combined wealth by more than 10 percent, from $6.4 trillion in 2014, while the total number of billionaires has grown by 11 percent.

Gold, Dollar Buck Trend to Shine Together

Gold’s run-up so far this year has put it among the best-performing assets globally. But it is fear, not glitter, that is behind the yellow metal’s appeal for investors.

“Risk aversion is pushing investors to buy gold, yen and dollars, all at the same time. It is a very strange phenomenon,” said Gnanasekar Thiagarajan, director of Mumbai-based Commtrendz Research.

A Stunning Platinum-and-Diamond Ring Is On The Block

On February 5, Sotheby’s New York will auction a platinum-and-diamond ring as part of its “Important Jewels” sale. The ring’s central diamond is a 14.78-carat oval-cut stone. The Gemological Institute of America has given this stone a D color grade—the highest color rating for diamonds—and a VVS2 clarity grade. Two one-carat tapered baguette diamonds and a platinum band complete the ring.

10 things every Rolex owner should know

Rolex really isn’t like any other watch brand. In fact, the privately held, independently run entity isn’t like most other companies. I can say this now with a lot more clarity than most people because I was there.

Rolex rarely allows anyone into its hallowed halls, but I was invited to visit their four manufacture locations in Switzerland and experience first-hand how Rolex makes their famous watches.

Rolex is a universe of its own: respected; admired; valued; and known across the globe. Sometimes I sit back and think about all that Rolex is and does and find it hard to believe that at the end of the day, they just make watches.

Rolex does just make watches and their timepieces have taken on a role beyond that of mere timekeeper. Having said that, the reason a “Rolex is a Rolex” is because they are good watches and tell pretty good time. It’s taken me over a decade to fully appreciate the brand, and it will probably take longer before I learn everything I’d like to know about them.

The purpose of this article isn’t to give you a totally inside look at Rolex. That isn’t possible because as of now there is a strict “no photography” policy at Rolex. There is a very real mystique behind the manufacture because they are relatively closed and their operations aren’t public. The brand takes the concept of Swiss discreetness to a new level, and in a lot of ways that is good for them. So since we can’t show you what we saw, I’d like to share with you some interesting facts that every Rolex and watch lover should know.

Four-Day Sales of US Marshals Coins Hit $11.6 Million

United States Mint sales of 2015 US Marshals products bounced by another 42,257 coins through Sunday after sales of 89,402 coins in the first 12 hours. That places their four-day total at 131,659 coins, or $11,628,537.

Most Expensive Patek to Return to Auction at Sotheby’s

A Patek Philippe pocket watch that holds the record for the most expensive timepiece sold in an auction will go on sale again at Sotheby’s (BID), which estimates it’s worth more than 15 million Swiss francs ($17 million).

The Henry Graves Supercomplication will be put on the block Nov. 14 in a Geneva auction, coinciding with the brand’s 175th anniversary, Sotheby’s said in a statement today. Sotheby’s sold it in 1999 for $11 million to an anonymous buyer.

What is so great about collectible automobiles?On Sunday, the Times-Herald tried to answer this question by posing it to 10 participants at the eighth annual car and motorcycle show and shine at Besant Park & Campground.1. It’s a time machine – Moose Jaw’s Gary Bollinger drove a 1971 Chevelle to Sunday’s show and shine and he said driving an old car gives him the feeling like he’s in a previous era.

The $55 Million Quartz Watch

At first glance, one could hardly spot anything really tentative about Graff Diamonds’ first appearance at Baselworld earlier this year. The booth, 503 square meters upon a single elevated space, was designed by Graff’s Monaco-based interior design team in the likeness of a Graff Boutique. The booth was quite charming indeed, with walnut wall paneling and bronze feature showcases; however, it was the treasure within that triggered an almost dreamlike state.

Lamborghini Huracán has a big legacy to uphold

It’s called the Huracán – a name that isn’t anything to do with the weather – and it is replacing the most successful Lamborghini of all time, the Gallardo.

Between 2003 and the end of 2013, more than 14,000 Gallardo coupes and convertibles were sold.

Though that number would be a blip for a Toyota or Ford, the Gallardo is a monstrously powerful and monstrously expensive Italian supercar. The range, on this market at least, started at about $400,000.

More significantly, that 14,000 total represents half of all the Lamborghinis ever built since the company started operations way back in 1963.

The man given the high-pressure job of shaping the follow-up – on sale in Australia soon – is Filippo Perini, head of the “Centro Stile” design department at Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata, Italy. He spoke to Luxury magazine about the challenges of replacing a car he insists “will always look new”.
