Well maybe I don’t WANT to work double as hard as abled people!! Maybe I deserve a BREAK!! Maybe I’ve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and it’s led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I don’t have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DON’T have to work double as hard!! Maybe if there’s the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because I’m already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!

El needed the “independence from men” arc, not Nancy.

Steve needed the “it’s okay if your crush doesn’t like you back” arc, not Will.

Mike needed the “you’re braver than you think” arc, not Holly.

Mileven needed the “shared trauma doesn’t mean we’re compatible” breakup, not Jancy.

Byler needed the “I just needed you” resolution, not Lumax.

Either Willel or Elmax needed the “you understand me better than anyone” resolution, not Mileven.

They kept giving the right arcs to the wrong characters and the wrong relationships.

horse is dead but im still thinking about the concept of hopper finding out mike is dating will and losing his shit because he cant escape this fucking wheeler kid. never gets old to me.

but like. specifically the dynamic where hopper hates mileven for what he assumes are super rational reasons, until mike starts dating will, and he doesnt hate it as much as he hated mike dating el. and hes like. did mike become a better person. or is he just a better person to will. and hopper realizing he doesnt actually hate mike, he hated that mike was so blatantly incompatable with his daughter.

joyce loving mike like her own son probably strengthens this divide between the two reactions, too. like shes known mike since he was 3 apples tall and swinging with will at recess because he had no other friends. shes seen mike at his best and his worst. that boy couldnt surprise her if he tried, and trust me, hes tried.

and like. the idea of hopper being so totally blindsided by byler. like will being gay? sure, plausible enough. MIKE WHEELER being gay? what timeline is he in rn. is he being vecna'd. and it takes joyce recounting stories about miwi for hours on end for hopper to start to understand because from his perspective, this asshole girl-crazy thirteen year old started obsessing over his daughter out of nowhere and thats like, his PRIMARY view of mike.

just. byler showing hopper that theres a side to mike hes never met because he didnt know mike when he was 5 and helping will communicate his needs when he was nonverbal as a kid. yknow?

and then henderhop comes out of left field and hopper finds a much better enemy in dustin fucking henderson. forget mike, dustin is my enemy now, this kid talks back like no tomorrow and wouldnt obey a rule if there was a gun to his head. door open three inches? lmao dustin and jane are climbing out the window as we speak.

okay but like. Picture the scene:

El moved to iceland after s5 and started afresh

She settles in a small village and when the people living there see a teenage girl alone with an air of melancholy? Immediately she is taken in as the village child to look after

someone sees her using her powers by accident and the whole village silently agrees “we tell no one. She is ours to protect now” and they go about their daily lives

years pass, el grows into an adult and takes over the village bakery after the elderly owner passes away

sometimes she checks in on The Party, using her powers, she watches mike and will fall in love, lucas and max blossom, and she is so very happy for them

and then she sees dustin. Dustin does not fall in love, she doesnt understand why because dustin always talked about suzie when they were dating, el figured dustin really valued romance

after a long while of living—when shes about 25-27—she is taking her daily walk through the forests and waterfalls (the one time a day she lets herself truly think about what she left behind) and she comes across a small child. No older than five or six, and so *so* small, shivering, terrified. El looks at her and sees herself that night in the woods when hopper found her

she remembers what hopper said the last time they saw eachother “give her the life you never had”

so she does

a year later dustin—a fully fledged nasa engineer—moves to work in iceland to study the geothermal vents and renewable energy possibilities. Hes posted in a small village.

the day after he arrives he walks into the village bakery to see el—jane—laughing with a customer behind the counter, flour on her cheek, her hair long, so long (she never cuts it, not after the lab) and smiling. Really truly smiling.

he’s about to call out to her, sweep her into a crushing hug, cry, shout, *something*, a young girl comes running behind the counter waving a sheet of scribbled on paper shouting “mama look what i made!”

and dustin comes to the conclusion that Jane has well and truly moved on from everything. From hawkins. From everyone.

he leaves the bakery without buying anything

and now has to try and get through his year long post without running into Jane, or her daughter

(obviously they meet again and fall in love and its wonderful yay)

will becoming a famous artist once he gets older and one of his most famous pieces is a beautiful painting of a young woman with wavy brown hair and the kindest eyes anyone has ever seen. she’s wearing a long purple dress and carrying a small rabbit in her arms. she’s smiling at the viewer and there are daisies in her hair. she’s standing in a field, and the sun makes her skin glow. the painting is titled “jane in the spring”. the word “jane” is etched in tiny little letters on the bottom of the canvas. whenever people ask about it, will just smiles and says it’s a gift for his twin sister.

The concept of Will finally gaining a stable father figure through Hopper, but forever feeling like he's taking Jane's place.

The concept of Hopper having to learn how to be a father to two sons after having two daughters.

The concept of Will telling his college friends that he's a twin, and showing them pictures of Jane, forever frozen at 16, and them telling him they see the resemblance.

The concept of Jonathan getting Will back, but still mourning a younger sibling in the end.

The concept of the Hopper-Byers family never getting to live all together under one roof.

The concept of Will’s college friends joking about how everyone in Will’s family has a name starting with J except for him, and him having to resist saying that his sister also had another name that sounded similar to his own.

The concept of Hopper seeing Will huddled asleep in Jane's old room one night and just seeing Jane for a second.

The concept of Jonathan making a film about overcoming abuse and dedicating it to Jane.

Just the concept of the Hopper-Byers family post Jane's death.

max says her favorite color is purple when she’s asked. every time. and when someone asks why she never wears purple or she doesn’t own any purple, she ignores them. she lingers on anything purple. she stops in front of a purple bed set at the store and lets her fingers claim the petals of a purple rose in the hedges down the street.

will uses purple to unify his palates when painting. a lavender for something soft or an indigo for something sad. but everything has to be viewed by the audience through a purple lens. every painting is for her eyes, no matter how many nameless faces praise will’s work.

mike feels sick every time he sees the color. he steers away from it at almost all costs. it hurts too much. so he feels stupid when he has to ask for a different color plate at a cheesy restaurant, but he does it anyway, because he knows he won’t be able to force a bite down past the rising nausea that chokes him.

lucas is pulled towards anything purple. he buys purple things on impulse. a purple mug, a purple hairbrush, a purple flower arrangement, a purple smoothie, purple car air fresheners, he’s just drawn to the color. he finds himself surrounding himself with little reminders of her, as if he’d ever forget her.

dustin tries to wear purple so much more. at one point he dyes a purple strip in his hair, but it shows up really dark because he didn’t want to risk the integrity of his curls with bleach. but then he buys twenty pairs of purple socks, purple bracelets, purple earrings, a purple hat. it’s almost like she’s experiencing the world with him.

The concept of Will missing his eye and having to adapt to life with a little shittier depth perception. His neck always hurts, but for once it isnt Vecna, its because he tilts his head towards his working eye to make everything look right. Having to adapt the way he paints to not cause him strain headaches. Will who thinks hes losing his memory of his friends faces, but quickly learns its because of his adapting sight.

Mike loosing his left arm. Mike needing to learn how to use a pencil again, and a typewriter. Hes too stubborn to learn with his right hand, but eventually does use it a little bit. He finds a comfortable way to write and type with his prosthetic arm. He can use both hands and has pretty good handwriting, but still prefers his left. The right tends to get sore faster.

Jane who loses her powers. She sometimes still raises her hands to move things to her when shes tucked in on a cold day. Her head hurts almost constantly from the over exertion. She gets frequent nosebleeds still, and sometimes, at the very beginning, remembers her heart fluttering in fear that it was back. That she could somehow restart the cycle.

Max who uses a wheelchair or crutches, and has pretty bad vision. Despite her making fun of Mike for his reading glasses, she wears a pair too. They help just enough that she feels a little normal. Her wheelchair is decorated (by the party and erica), but she doesnt like using it unless its really bad. Once she graduates college tho, she uses it more. Sometimes normal isnt what other people think it is.

Dustin, with a ton of badass scars. His hearing is a little worse now, too. He doesnt even really know how it got bad. Hes got a few scars up and down his legs and arms, and he has a tattoo from Eddie over one of them. He likes telling people the story of that one, even if he lies a little about it. He doesnt say much about the others.

Lucas has a big scar over his chest, as well as a few on his face. The one of his chest was deep enough to need stitches, but he didnt end up getting them until after the final battle. Lucas with chronic migraines from staying up late by Max's side. From all the caffeine in his system at one point.

You know what? Forget the discourse. This is no longer my hill to die on.

You wanna ship canonically aspec characters because “aro/ace people can still date/have sex”? Okay, then. LET’S DO IT.  I wanna see an aromantic character with an alloromantic love interest. I wanna see that confession of undying love and the moment when the aro character says they will never feel the same way—not romantically.

I wanna see the asexual character with their allosexual partner. I wanna see that moment when the ace characters tries sex with their partner for the first time because they want to make them happy only to realize that they are 100% sex repulsed.

I wanna see the two demiromantics who don’t even know if what they feel is romantic attraction, but they adore each other and just want to make healthy snacks together and destroy each other at Mario Kart.

I wanna see the two aces who love sensual affection and are figuring out what they define as sexual or not.

I wanna see the romance + sex neutral aroace who happily and consensually does whatever makes their partner happy…but their partner still struggles with feeling undesired.
