hiii welcome to my main blog! call me Null, i use it/its and he/him.

i’m a butch trans guy, aroallo straight (also kinda lesbian). i have autism, chronic pain, a few other things.

i like writing and drawing, OCs are my special interest, and i have a comic im working on (though i probably won’t post it for a while) called Cold Hands And Sharp Teeth. see more of that stuff on my sideblog ThisMantisDraws :). i also like worldbuilding, spec evo, conlanging, etc even though i don’t do those as often

i’m interested in art and writing, medical stuff, dinosaurs. favorite comic is Runaway To The Stars, fav video game is Niche : A Genetic Survival Game, fav book series is Pendragon (Journals of a Traveller). Fav shows are Crazy Ex Girlfriend, The Good Place, and Kevin Can F*** Himself. not really a furry, but i think anthros, sphinxes, centaurs, catboys, etc are very cool.

The 2026 Gender Census is now open!

The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

Chik-fil-le sandwich

INGREDIENTS:

4 hamburger buns, split

1 head green leaf lettuce, leaves separated

1 beefsteak tomato, sliced

20 dill pickle slices

FOR THE CHICKEN

2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup dill pickle juice

1 ½ cups milk, divided

1 cup peanut oil

1 large egg

½ cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

DIRECTIONS:

Place a chicken breast on a cutting board. With your hand flat on top of it, carefully slice the chicken in half horizontally. Trim excess fat as needed.

In a large shallow baking dish, combine chicken, pickle juice and ½ cup milk; marinate for at least 30 minutes. Drain well.

Heat peanut oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

In another large shallow baking dish, whisk together remaining 1 cup milk and egg. Stir in chicken to coat and drain excess milk mixture.

In a gallon size Ziploc bag or large bowl, combine chicken, flour and confectioners’ sugar; season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Working in batches, add chicken to the skillet and cook until evenly golden and crispy, about 4-5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

Serve chicken immediately on burger buns with green leaf lettuce, tomato and pickles.

so with the "transfem caricature as non passing representation" discourse popping up from time to time and Iv'e been having some thoughts. These arguments are obviously not made in good faith. It's from the same place as "you can change your gender not your sex" in that it seeks to place trans women in a fundamentally different category from cis women. "we're just drawing non passing trans women the way they really look" basically just means "you can never be the same as cis women so therefore you must be depicted as fundamentally different with all your "masculine" traits highlighted". it's obviously transmisogynistic bullshit. however I have been seeing the idea floated around on the other side of the discourse that trans women must always be drawn exactly the same as the artist would draw cis women and I think we risk losing something here. The basic idea of wanting to depict a wider range of what trans women's bodies can look like is fundamentally a good one, though as stated above that's not what many of these artist are interested in doing. So I would like to put forward my humble no professional non artist thoughts on how you can draw trans women's bodies as trans women's bodies in a way that isn't highly offensive, (at least in my opinion I do not speak for every transfem). I will be focusing on trans women since that's what I am and a non binary transfem will probably have a different relationship to their body. firstly: while I disagree that trans women must always be depicted the same way as cis women, the way you draw cis women must always be the baseline for how you draw trans women, we are women who may or may not have certain "clocky" physical traits and therefore must be seen first and foremost as women. most artists don't have that much range in how they draw female characters and you can't use trans women as the only way you explore women's bodies beyond patriarchal beauty standards. If you only draw traditionally hot sexy babes you gotta be able to count your trans female oc's among them. secondly: be subtle and tasteful about it. if you draw a trans woman with a trait that can be read as non passing it's up to you how much attention you draw to it. even if you draw a portrait of a real person they can be read differently depending on what you choose to highlight vs what you choose to ignore. remember that many trans women (and cis women) posses physical traits that can be read as masculine but still "pass". (also remember that passing is weird and arbitrary). This is why I would recommend that if you have a very simple cartoony artstyle you should default to drawing your trans women identically to your cis women since any trait given to such a design will be read as character defining. thirdly: keep in mind the character's relationship to their body. what parts of their body might the character be dysphoric about and which parts are she proud of? does the character do anything to alleviate dysphoria? to pass more? remember that a bit of makeup and the right clothes can significantly change how a body looks. a big part of why those caricatures I mentioned in the first paragraph always feel so mean spirited is that the woman depicted is not allowed to be good at anything, She's not allowed to dress well, be good at makeup or wear a nice wig, her womanhood must be obviously artificial and amateurish. And please never draw a trans woman in a full beard unless you're extremely sure of what you're doing. and finally if you're unsure of your ability to do any of these please just draw your trans women the way you would draw any woman. The most important part is that you're respectful and just drawing us as just a woman will always be respectful. While I want to see a wider range of trans bodies be depicted I have only seen it done well a couple of times and always by transfem artists, I don't know if this post will change any of that.

Please understand that high support needs are substantially more than low support needs.

I hate to say it, but if you can hold a job with minimal accommodation from others, drive a car or take public transport independently, and handle most bADL’s and iADL’s with self-management strategies, you are not high support needs.

I by no means am trying to invalidate people, but it’s incredibly important to recognize where you actually lie on the full spectrum of disability. Otherwise we risk speaking over people who genuinely are HSN.
