Overview
What is the rescue plan?
To register Tumblr users on a new blogging site
To transfer existing content from Tumblr to the new site
To retain, sustain and build communities
To give an overall similar experience to Tumblr (the old Tumblr before 2018!)
To avoid the pitfalls of the current Tumblr
What must each user do?
Wait for the official announcement of the new site
Register on the new site (will need an email and password)
If the user wants, click a button to transfer blog content from Tumblr to the new site
Between now and December 17th, do not change your blogname or delete your blog from Tumblr
Timing and next steps
When and where will the new site be announced?
Next few days. I will announce it on https://twitter.com/rescueplan and on https://honedperfection.tumblr.com.
Why not announce the site now?
The site needs to be prepped for large numbers of Tumblr users to join, and for all their content to be transferred. It needs to be done in a way which does not disrupt the siteās existing community of users. New user registration on the site needs to be temporarily switched off so that only an authorised transfer from Tumblr is possible: this way, popular Tumblr userās names cannot be taken (name squatting).
āI need the site name now so I can check it outā
Sorry, the site name will not be given to anyone in advance, no exceptions. It will be announced to everyone at the same time.
āI am anxious about missing the announcementā
Follow https://honedperfection.tumblr.com and https://twitter.com/rescueplan and you will not miss it. Also, it will be widely reblogged when it happens. You will have several days to join the new site and transfer your blog safely before December 17th, so do not worry.
Is there an advantage to transferring early?
Depending on user numbers transferring across, there may be an advantage in being one of the first to transfer - for example if very large numbers (millions) of people want to transfer all at the same time, the transfer process will slow down. Some people may prefer to wait until they see if other blogs they follow have transferred. Either way, do not leave it until the very last minute, for example do not wait until after midnight on Sunday December 16th. We do not know what time exactly Tumblrās intended December 17th cut-off will apply.
Do I need to take action before December 17th?
If your blog contains NSFW content which you want to transfer to the new site - either for permanent community viewing or because it is too difficult for you to download it all - then you should transfer your blog to the new site before Monday, December 17th. (It is possible that in some cases transfers will still work OK even after December 17th, but we cannot be sure until after that date is already past, so better safe than sorry.)
If your blog has no posts - or if your blog on Tumblr has no NSFW content - then you can register on the new site after December 17th without urgency. I mean, if you want to use the new site and view blogs on there, but you do not want to transfer your own Tumblr blog content across, then in this case, you can register as a user on the new site even after December 17th, so there is no rush.
Do I need to be a registered user on the new site to preview content there?
You can browse the whole site freely in this first week, even if not a registered user. But later in December it will be changed so that, after that time, only registered users will be able to browse the NSFW content.
What date and time will the new site be announced, exactly?
When itās ready. The original hoped date was December 9th or 10th but that has had to change for technical reasons. The announcement is now expected to be on December 11th or 12th, not later than that.
Why is it taking so long?
I think it is taking an amazingly short time for a project of this scale. A team of very smart developers is working on it as quickly as humanly possible. Moving one user over to a new blog is easy, moving hundreds of thousands or millions is a large scale project.
How will I know if blogs I follow have transferred?
Every blog transferring will tell you that on their own Tumblr blog, and will provide a link to the new blog. (If a Tumblr blog is deleted or deactivated, then you will not see this but you can maybe try searching for the same blogname on the new site - or ask other community members where it has gone.)
SUGGESTION: It would be wise for you, today, to make a note of the exact names of all the Tumblrs you follow - maybe take a screenshot - to increase your chance of finding these blogs later if they get deleted or deactivated on Tumblr.
About the new site
Describe the new site
Itās a blogging site similar to Tumblr. If you like Tumblr you will like it. It has - in my opinion - better visual design than Tumblr.
What types of communities are on the new site?
All types of communities are there, including general subjects such as photography, fashion, art, food as well as nudity and other NSFW. When our Tumblr communities move to the new site, you should be able to find the same commmunity there so Tumblr users should feel right at home :)
Will the new site support minorities?
Definitely yes, the new site strongly believes in creating a positive and open environment for all.
How will minorities be protected from hate speech on the new site?
Hate speech is unacceptable on the new site and will be subject to disciplinary action. Blogs themed on racism or anti-Semitism will not be tolerated on the new site.
What is allowed on the new site
Is the new site for BDSM, d/s or other groups?
The new site is a general blogging site for everybody, similar to Tumblr. All groups, including the groups listed in this question, are very welcome. Importantly, the site is not only for these groups. One of the best aspects of Tumblr is that as a general blogging site, members can explore and learn about all their different interests in one place, including ādipping their toeā into new areas. Human beings are not one-dimensional.
How about LGBT?
Blogs with LGBT content are welcome and warmly encouraged.
Will all forms of NSFW content be allowed on the new site?
Every type of NSFW content is allowed, except for illegal content such as child pornography and zoophilia (bestiality). Posting child pornography or zoophilia - or transferring existing posts of those things from Tumblr - will result in account bans and legal action.
Specifically, is my blog going to be acceptable on the new site?
Partial or full nudity and depictions of all types of human sexual acts are allowed, so long as all participators are over 18 years old. If it was allowed on Tumblr prior to December 2018, it will be allowed on the new site. (Except hate speech: racism and hate speech are not allowed on the new site.)
Is anything not acceptable?
As already said, child pornography and zoophilia are never acceptable and will result in takedowns and account bans. In addition, depictions of serious crime (examples: death, mutilation, rape) or incitation to crime may result in action depending on the context. For example journalist reporting of actual news or events is acceptable, art is acceptable. Imagery of hardcore BDSM between consenting adults is acceptable. Imagery of simulation or role-play by consenting adults (example: forced sex fantasies) is acceptable.
How will you know the difference between all these things?
Anything borderline will be reviewed by humans. Humans are good at knowing the difference between what is acceptable and what is not.
How will you ensure there is no child pornogaphy on the site?
We will use a combination of several methods known to be effective. Details will not be discussed: discussion will only help the perpetrators.
Are Lolita and dd/lg relationships and erotica with these themes permitted on the site?
Yes, so long as in all images the persons shown are in fact over 18 years old. Dressing up or role-playing a relationship where one partner is more experienced is allowed. As above, any borderline case will be reviewed by humans. Humans are good at knowing the difference between acceptable and legal art, on the one hand, and illegal child pornography, on the other hand.
I have 1000 posts on my Tumblr and I think one of them might show a 16-17 year old
If you know that your post shows an under-age person in a nude, suggestive or sexual context, please avoid trouble for yourself later and delete this post now. The rule is simple: over 18 is acceptable, under 18 is not.
What about porn bots?
Commercial and other spam is not permitted on the new site. Porn bots - of all kinds - are basically a form of spam. They are quite easily detected and blocked when found.
Any other rules for NSFW content?
The new site has one simple rule: all NSFW material must be flagged as NSFW by the poster. Similar to Tumblrās āsensitiveā setting, either the whole blog or one individual post can be set to NSFW by the user.
What does NSFW mean?
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=NSFW
Transfers
How will the transfer to the new site work?
The new site will have a registration page and a button to transfer your blog.. You can also choose to register your name without transferring your blog content. Click the transfer button, and your blog content will be automatically transferred. Note the content transfer is a slow process, it takes a few minutes, or longer for large blogs.
What if I have multiple blogs on Tumblr (secondary blogs)?
Your secondary blogs can also be transferred, you can choose which blogs are transferred and which not. You will be given a separate username and login on the new site for each blog transferred. You will need a different email address for each account, so if you have several Tumblr blogs you might want to go create some new email addresses for yourself now.
(Pro tip: if you have a gmail account then you can add extra dots in the address to make new email addresses for yourself which all go to the exact same valid gmail account. For example, an email to [email protected] will go to [email protected]. Try it for yourself!)
Can I continue to use Tumblr after transferring to the new site?
Yes of course - though presumably, you will not be posting new NSFW content on your Tumblr?
Your Tumblr blog will remain (unless you deactivate it) and you can still post on Tumblr. Your new posts on Tumblr will not be transferred to the new site: the new site is a snapshot of your existing Tumblr blog on the day you click the transfer button.
What post types are transferred?
Photo posts, GIFs, Photosets, Text or HTML posts and Quote posts will be transferred. Bare links (with no text) will not be transferred. Videos and audio recordings will not be transferred, sorry - you will need to download those from Tumblr yourself and find a home for them elsewhere.
What about asks, submissions, chat and user comments on my posts?
These cannot be transferred to the new site, sorry. If these posts do not contain images, they can probably stay on Tumblr even after December 17th?
I am a photographer, will the source be credited?
āSource:ā labels on Tumblr posts will not be transferred to the new site. This is for technical reasons and because in our experience they are not used in a consistent way - for example, some users state their own Tumblr blog as the source, for self-promoting reasons. Also, it can be said that Tumblr is the source for all transferred content on the new site.
If you are a photographer and you want a credit or link to your own professional website (or your Instagram/500px/Flickr) please include this credit in the photo caption.
What about all my reblogs?
Posts which you have reblogged so that they are visible on your own blog will be transferred and visible on the new site, this is part of the transfer of your blog to the new site. If the original poster also transfers their Tumblr blog to the new site then your reblogs will be shown as reblogs on the new site. If the original poster does NOT transfer their blog to the new site then your reblog, over there, will seem like an original post.
What about my Tumblr Queue?
Posts in your Queue, and Drafts, will not be transferred to the new site: only actual published posts will be transferred. If you want to transfer posts in your Queue, go through your Queue on Tumblrās dashboard and select Publish Now. Do this before transferring to the new site. Or, you could just wait a day or two for all your Queued posts to be published.
I have 20000 posts on my Tumblr, how do I set them all to NSFW?
Easiest for you is to set up your whole blog as NSFW when you transfer it. Or if your blog has mixed content, some SFW and some NSFW, you can set individual posts as NSFW. A lenient approach will be taken during the first month, as we know it takes time to get this right for a large amount of content.
Can the new site automatically copy my Tumblr āsensitive contentā setting for each post?
No, sorry, that is not possible.
Social features
What about all my Likes?
Other peopleās posts you have liked on Tumblr (but not reblogged) will not be transferred to the new site. These cannot be transferred, because they are not your own posts - they are another blogās posts. If you want to transfer likes, you will need to reblog them now to your own Tumblr blog before transferring your blog to the new site. Note that Tumblr has a daily post limit of 250 posts or reblogs, so this will limit your ability to reblog likes, so maybe choose only the best ones?
Another option is for you to suggest to all the blogs you follow that they transfer to the new site :)
What if I liked a post on xyz Tumblr blog, and the blog xyz transfers to the new site also?
Even in this situation your āLikeā will not be copied across to the new site, because you did not yet Like the post on the new site. You will need to go find blog xyz on the new site, and like the post they have over there. I know it would be amazing if all your Likes can just be copied across to the new site so that it becomes exactly the same as Tumblr, but that is not possible in the short time available to December 17th.
I have a popular blog with many likes, reblogs and followers, how will those be transferred?
Same answer as above. It would be nice if all these connections can be transferred, but it cannot be done in the time available - users must start again with fresh likes and followers on the new site. If you have a popular blog on Tumblr and you give your followers your blog name on the new site (probably the same name as here on Tumblr, but thatās up to you) then your followers will find you over there easily enough.
It upsets me that all my past interactions with other people here on Tumblr will be lost
The whole community is upset, angry and dismayed about this. To take a positive approach: the people and the content you like will hopefully be transferring to the new site, and if the people are there, the community will remain and rebuild new links in future: thatās the most important thing.
Future plans
Will the new site offer reblogging and commenting?
The new site - which has millions of existing users with blogs already - currently has a Like function but not a Reblog function. A Reblog function will be added as soon as possible so that Tumblr users should feel right at home. This is likely to be after December 17th. Before December 17th, the priority is simply transferring blogs safely.
Will the new site offer Asks, Submissions, and Fanmail (messaging)?
Not at first. In the months ahead, new community features will be added, these features may not be exactly the same as Tumblr (they may be better!)
Will the new site offer themes?
The new site offers layout options for your posts, but not full page themes like Tumblr. Themes are a feature that will probably be added some time in future.
Any other plans for the new site?
The new site is good already, and over time will be looking to add all the features needed to create a ābest in classā blogging community.
Transfer process details
How will I know when my blog is successfully transferred to the new site?
When the transfer process is complete, the transfer tool will automatically create a new post on your Tumblr blog, giving your followers the name of your new blog at the new site. This post will be in English. If you want this information shown in a different language, you can edit the post yourself in your Tumblr dashboard (maybe keep the English text also, for your international followers, so that there are two languages.) When this post appears in your Tumblr blog it is also a confirmation that your posts are safely stored on the new site and will become visible on the new site over the days ahead.
IMPORTANT: this notification of successful transfer will be added as a post in your posts Queue on Tumblr, not your published posts. This is to allow you to edit the notification as you want, before your followers see it. If your Queue on Tumblr is already filled then this post will be near the end of the Queue, so you might want to move it to the top of the Queue!
I clicked the transfer button and I have not yet received a notification of a completed transfer
Go check your posts Queue on Tumblr. If you are not seeing the notification within a few minutes after clicking the transfer button, try refreshing the posts Queue: the notification will be at the end. If you have a very large blog please be aware it may need more than a few minutes to complete the transfer, so if you donāt see it immediately donāt worry, just check again after an hour or so.
Will I be able to see my posts on the new site immediately?
After you are notified of a completed transfer, the posts will still take time to become actually visible on your blog on the other site. Similar to Queued posts on Tumblr, posts take time to be published - but faster than Tumblr, it should normally be several thousand posts appearing per day. In very busy periods (large numbers of users transferring) your posts may appear at a slower rate, but if you have been notified of a complete transfer, you can be sure that your posts will appear eventually.
What if there are too many users transferring all at the same time?
Your blog posts transferred from Tumblr will be safely stored, even if the new site is extremely busy - we are expecting it to be busy! At peak times, posts will appear on your new blog at a slower rate, but all your transferred posts will eventually appear.
My blog here has over 250,000 different posts, will those all be transferred?
Blogs with large follower numbers on Tumblr will have all their posts transferred. Blogs with low numbers of followers on Tumblr, but very high numbers of posts, may be capped at a certain number of posts (the newest posts will be transferred). This is for fairness to other users: it would not be fair to spend all the transfer resources on one personās huge blog. Again, if there was more time until December 17th, more could be done, but as things are the time available has to be allotted in the fairest way.
How can I be sure this will all happen as described?
Until the new site is announced and your blog is actually transferred then people may feel uncertainty. But please be assured, a team of smart and committed people, who care passionately about the survival of the Tumblr communities, is doing their damnedest to make it happen.
General
Are transfers of all my posts guaranteed?
Transfers of your blog to any other site are on a 'best effortsā basis. There may be changes, for example formatting differences. For technical reasons, some Tumblr posts may be impossible to transfer. Video and audio posts, and 'askā and 'submissionā posts and other conversations on Tumblr, will not be transferred.
Will the new site be free?
Yes.
What languages does the new site have?
Registration page and settings are in English. Your own blog can be in any language.
Will there be an app for my phone?
The new site will be adding iPhone and Android apps some time after December 17th. For now, the new site is easy to browse in a browser on your phone such as Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
Is there a risk that Apple will take down the new siteās iPhone app in future?
As happened to Tumblr? We hope not. Site rules are designed to ensure the app will remain acceptable to Apple - in the same way that Twitter is acceptable to Apple even though a few Twitter users post porn. Worst case, iPhone and iPad users can always browse the site in a web browser.
Can I help the project?
An experienced team is already working on it, but more help is always appreciated and will allow us to do more in the time. If you are an expert web or full stack developer able to volunteer significant time in the next days, please get in touch with details of your skills and experience.
Why have I not heard of the new site before now?
The internet is a big place! The new site does not do heavy marketing.
Will this FAQ change?
This FAQ is subject to revision to keep it up to date - I may edit this post, so check back at the original honedperfection.tumblr.com to see the latest version. All intended and announced plans are on a 'best effortsā basis.
Is this FAQ available in other languages?
No, but if you want to translate it to your language on your blog, you are welcome to do that. Please retain links to the original on honedperfection and the rescueplan Twitter so that people can follow updates there.
Once, I encountered the funny story of an AI image descriptor with a sheep obsession. It had been trained on pictures of fields of sheep. Therefore, it tagged anything in a field as 'sheep', including an empty field, because they work on statistical probability. Therefore, it thinks "ah, a field! there's probably a sheep here." (It's a bit more complicated but basically that.) It also couldn't recognise sheep in places that weren't fields, such as petrol stations or barns. [cont]
Now, the alarming aspect of this story is that the very same technology is probably what tumblr is using to identify porn. Now, if it canāt tell that an empty field is not, in fact, full of sheep, what hope do we have that it canāt tell an empty room isnāt full of writing human forms engaged in passionate coitus?
this really does sound like an episode of black mirror
But wait, itās even weirder than that!
This is gonna produce some absolutely baffling pornography.
ā¦. oh my fucking god they actually are using open source software. Theyāre using a fucking one-layer unidirectional bicategory tag-trained neural network. This will never work. Literally, it will never work. Thereās just not enough algorithmic complexity to do what theyāre asking of it. I bet you I could prove on a mathematical level that this joke of a neural net fundamentally lacks the abstraction necessary to do its job.
This will never get better. Their algorithm will never stop fucking up, it will never actually flag porn reliably and it will always require a massive quantity of human hours to deal with the deluge of mistagged pictures. This isnāt just a case of an insufficiently trained algorithm, itās just ⦠this is the most basic neural network you can make. It probably hasa a lot of neurons and has loads of training data but like ⦠you canāt just brute force this kind of stuff. One layer of neurons is just Not Enough.
Also, just to make this clear, Tumblr lied. I mean, we already know this, but I mean they liiiieeeeed. All that stuff they promised about what would or would not be censored? That cannot be delivered on with a system this simple. Nude classical sculptures, political protests, male-presenting nipples (really Tumblr?), nude art outside the context of sex, all that? You cannot train a bicategory one-layer neural network to exclude those things. It cannot be done. Tumblr never intended for those things to actually be permitted, they were just lying. Because the system they have cannot actually do what they said it would and never will be able to.
Also, this kind of system is super vulnerable to counter-neural strategies. I bet you before the end of the month someone hooks up their own open source one layer bicategory neural network which puts an imperceptible (to humans) layer of patterned static over arbitrary images, and trains it by having it bot-post static-ed images to Tumblr and reinforcing based on whether the images are labeled nsfw or sfw. Seriously, within a month someone will have an input-output machine which can turn any image āsfwā in Tumblrās eyes.
This is genuinely pathetic. Like, I have real pity for whoever implemented this, because itās clear Tumblr doesnāt actually have any engineers with any expertise with machine learning left at all and they foisted the job off on some poor bastard who has no idea what theyāre doing and is going to get all kinds of flak for their (perfectly reasonable and predetermined) failure from management.
As has been pointed out before, there are no humans behind this at all. The review process just reruns either the same algorithm or another algorithm, but people have posted screen shots showing obviously SFW pictures that were still deemed NSFW on review, despite the fact that any human, no matter how overworked / tired would have seen that these pictures were not porn.
You remember that post about the homestuck t-shirt design contest collaborating with hot topic? And how Hot Topic are the biggest art thieves? Ā This is recent. Ā As you can see above, I stumbled upon Hot Topicās website and they are selling a very popular fan art put on a t-shirt, and did not ask permission from the original artist (rismo).
This shows Hot Topic still continues their art thievery. Ā Hot Topic are still taking art from artists without their permission. Ā This is disrespectful and appalling.
EXCEPT YOU DID GIVE THEM YOUR PERMISSION.
BY AGREEING TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS ON DEVIANT ART.
THEY SOLD IT TO A THIRD PARTY ROYALTY-FREE.
http://www.deviantart.com/submit/agree
woah oops deleting my deviantart account
*instantly puts logo on my best pictures*
6. Payment Unless otherwise agreed between Artist and deviantART in a writing from deviantART, the license granted to deviantART under this Agreement is royalty-free.
DeviantArt you literal piece of shit
Uh what
Thatās not okay
yo okay this is REALLY FUCKING IMPORTANT and imma be deleting my DA very soon because of it.
are you fucking for real
Just a heads up for people hosting their designs on DA
Okay. I just read through theĀ āagreementā that DA has implemented, and it is truly heinous. I will not be posting on DA anymore.
āāā
3. License To Use Artist Materials. As and when Artist Materials are uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s), Artist grants to DeviantArt a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to do the following things during the Term:
a) to prepare and encode Artist Materials or any part of them for digital or analog transmission, manipulation and exhibition in any format and by any means now known or not yet known or invented;Ā (DA Ā can post them on their website and edit them in any way they see fit)
b) to display, copy, reproduce, exhibit, publicly perform, broadcast, rebroadcast, transmit, retransmit, distribute through any electronic means (including analog and digital) or other means, and electronically or otherwise publish any or all of the Artist Materials, including any part of them, and to include them in compilations for publication, by any and all means and media now known or not yet known or invented ; (They can publish your art in any media, use it to showcase their website or even promote certain groups without your knowledge. For all you know, your art could be promoting the KKK.)
c) to modify, adapt, change or otherwise alter the Artist Materials (e.g., change the size) and use the Artist Materials as described in Section 3(b); and
d) the right to sublicense to any other person or company any of the licensed rights in the Artist Materials, or any part of them, subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.Ā (They can edit, change, or otherwise modify your artwork in any way they want, as well as sublicensing it Ā to third parties, such as Hot Topic.)
e) Artist acknowledges that Artist will not have any right, title, or interest in any other materials with which Artist Materials may be combined or into which all or any portion of Artist Materials may be incorporated.Ā (By posting on FA, you forfeit your right to dispute any third party profits or copyright infringements upon your art.)
f) During the Term, DeviantArtās licenses under this Agreement include the right to use any part of the Artist Materials in the promotion, advertising or marketing of the DeviantART Sites.Ā (DeviantArt can use your art to advertise anything they want.)
g) As used in this Agreement, the term āArtist Materialsā means any content uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s) which may include without limitation Artistās name(s) (including professional names), trademarks, trade names, likenesses, photographs, biographical materials, audio-visual materials, artwork, liner notes, and other graphical, textual, video, film or audio materials and any and all āskins,ā computer-generated images or other artwork or images that Artist submits to DeviantArt in any medium or format whatsoever.Ā (ANYTHING you submit to DeviantArt belongs to DeviantArt now. Including Ā your drawings, your photos, videos, your stock materials, your music/audio, your written stories, and your artist name.)
Yes. THEY CAN EVEN USE YOUR ACTUAL ARTIST NAME. THEY OWN IT NOW, Ā IF YOU ARE PART OF DA.
Fuck DA.Ā
Burn them to the ground
Pass it around
Thatās why I deleted months ago.Itās a terrible website and I hate it
Passing on the PSA. I stopped using that site years ago. If you still use it, itās not too late! Trash that shit.
@everybery You should water mark the shit out of your stuff dear! Iāve had my designs on shirts without permission quite a few times !
Yep. Deleted over 400 drawings and photos from DA over an year ago. I used the site for over 8 years not knowing these terms of service since they donāt actually show them to you when you make an account. Sure you can find them if you do some digging but they donāt shove it to your face. Also it doesnāt matter if your art has a watermark or whatever. Like it says above they have the right to edit and modify your pics so they can just remove your useless watermarks and signatures and then use your art freely and you canāt complain because you have agreed to all of this. There is no reason whatsoever to use Deviantart (maybe if you are a stockartist that gives their shit for free lol). Leave this piece of shit site before they use you like the arrogant asshats they are.
For anyone who still uses DA, please read this.
This is relevant now more then ever because I see alot of people debating going back to DA
Lolokaynevermind.
Ver important in the light of tumblr purge. Many of you wold like to move to the DA and here is why it isnāt a good idea.
Itās a shame people keep reblogging this when, in fact, DeviantArt itself responded to the original post explaining that the artwork was illegally obtained and used and did NOT have permission from them, nor do other sites using artist designs.Ā Itās pretty fucking common sense.Ā Why would they risk losing the trust of artists across the world just to sell some shitty shirts?Ā Really?Ā Read below from another version of this same thread... (itās an image)
Swarmr
Does anyone have any experience with this website?Ā It appears to be a functional tumblr clone with just a few less bells and whistles.Ā This very well might be the new home we all are hoping for.Ā Iāve been toying around with it and the main functionality I canāt seem to match with tumblr are subblogs.Ā The dash itself is basically the same as it is here.Ā Your home page is kind of a mess, but thatās secondary to your dash feed, to be honest.Ā I wonder if anyone else has tested it and has any opinions.
After testing it a bit yesterday, there are some instabilities with customization, and it does not have a rich text editor either.Ā However, for anyone fond of the current posting format, it at least shares that in common.

December 17th - a rescue plan
Some good news, Iāve been talking to two developers now and got them working together, we just had a meeting with the guys behind an existing large (millions of users) site similar to Tumblr, with a vibrant and open-minded community, and more importantly, it has open-minded owners who believe in free speech. They think we can get something done here to rescue the whole community.
Iām not allowed to reveal the site name yet. I can tell you itās mainstream, open to everyone, open-minded and welcoming. (Itās not WordPress or any site owned by Facebook or Twitter. Itās not Pillowfort, thatās in closed beta. Itās not Ello, thatās mainly for artists. Itās not kinkspace or fetlife, those are too specialist. Itās not jux, that seems to be closed. Itās not Soup, that seems still in development and too small.)
One of the reasons for delaying the announcement for next few days is they donāt want a āland grabā where people take the names of current popular Tumblr users over there (cyber squatting). So they are looking at ways for existing Tumblr users to keep the same names on the new site.
More info over the days to come.
The plan is, broadly:
1. By December 9th, announcement of the new site and how to secure your username there
2. By December 10th, an online tool for bloggers to copy their existing content to the new site automatically, with the same tags and captions.
3. Bloggers will need to copy their content across between December 10th and December 17th if they want to use the automatic tool.
4. My understanding is that after December 17th there will be no public access to any āflaggedā posts on Tumblr, but the original poster will still be able to see the flagged post (for a short time at least). Therefore, the original poster may still be able to manually download a post to their own PC or phone, after December 17th, and manually upload it to the other site. But if you have lots of posts that will take a long time, it will be better to use the automatic tool before December 17th.
Please understand that these dates are approximate and may change for technical or other reasons.
There may be a few rough edges or not so perfect looking site design on the transfer tool. Everyone is doing their best. The main goal here is to help as many people as possible preserve access to their content, in the short space of time Tumblr has allowed us, and preserve as much as possible of the Tumblr community spirit somewhere new.
The new site will cater for photo, GIF, text and html posts. It will not offer video and audio posts, due to cost reasons - maybe in future, but for now you will need to preserve video and audio content yourself in some other place.
If your Tumblr blog has a mixture of original content and reblogs, or all reblogs, all of that can be copied over to the new site. Reblogs will become āyourā original content if nobody else posted them yet, otherwise they will be shown as reblogs. The devs are looking at ways to preserve attribution of reblogs back to the original Tumblr poster, if that person also moves to the new site.
Important: your Likes cannot be copied from Tumblr to the new site. You will have to go find the same posts again on the new site, and like them afresh.
(Similarly, existing reblog comments, asks, messages and other user interaction on Tumblr cannot be copied to the new site - thatās just too much to do, in the short time available.)
If you want to preserve any of your existing Liked posts on Tumblr, you will need to either: (1) download the post to your own PC, or: (2A) reblog it now to your own Tumblr blog, and then (2B) use the automatic tool, before December 17th, to move your whole Tumblr blog across to the new site.
If you have Liked a lot of posts here on Tumblr, the gridllr.com webapp should be able to help you do steps 1 and 2A quickly, I mean download or reblog.
(Someone complained to me today about the appearance of Gridllr on a phone. Itās best to use Gridllr on a PC, Mac or Tablet with a large screen.)
If you have liked a post here on Tumblr and the original poster decides to delete it, or even to delete their entire blog, some time before December 17th, then that post will be permanently lost. So if you want to be sure to preserve any of your Liked posts, you should best download or reblog as soon as possible. If itās reblogged to your own blog it is safe from deletion, at least for next few days.
Obviously, you will lose access, after December 17th, to all past posts you have liked, if Tumblr has flagged them as NSFW. Again, the steps (1), or (2A) and (2B) covered above will be the only way to hold on to these posts.
Oh I so hope this works. It would be great to get this out so we can try to get as many people as possible all back in one place and not split up all over different platforms.
Please reblog
Hereās hoping
everyone who seeās this from Me PLEASE reblog this!

⦠Okay, what the fuck is that Squeenix?Ā
I mean, seriously. I wear some questionable items, but what the fuck is that? What are those pants!?
The shirtā¦. is salvageable. Though Iām not a fan of the idea of wearing long gloves to cover up those god awful sleeves, Iāve been wanting a classy doublet (much like the Riviera one from the Saucer but a bit more formal that doesnāt dye as badly) for a while, but those sleevesā¦. The collarās bad, but workable. But the rest of this outfit makes me hate my eyes.Ā
Also I love how we were promised aĀ āMale only outfitā releaseā¦. only for it to be a male version of a female outfit that already exists. I get that theyāre trying to be more open to those who prefer an androgynous styleā¦. But seriously WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE PANTS? Shoes too, but we have a couple pairs in game already that we can use as alternatives so Iām not nearly as bothered by those. But holy fuck this outfit looks like whoever designed it got completely shit-faced and lost in the Bed section of Bed, Bath & Beyond, picked up a set of grey sheets and wentĀ āYep, that looks goodā. Then decided to take half the sleeves off a Latin ballroom dancerās shirt, slap the waiterās vest over it then put a tea saucer on the modelās head before deciding that was the look to go with only to realize that they forgot the final touch: The shoes! So they grabbed some coasters to form a heel, stole some poor electricianās electrical tape and tadah~! One train wreck of an outfit to release later so that the people who play males (or non-binary characters with masculine traits) will stop coming after them about preferential treatment to those who play female-based avatars.Ā Ā
Weāre just looking for equal treatment here SE. We donāt wantĀ āmale versionsā of outfits designed for females. We want the same opportunity to have outfits unique to us as men that arenāt frilly or designed to be androgynous (at least not all the time). When was the last time there was a set released (in game, not cash shop) where there was a stark design difference between theĀ āmaleā andĀ āfemaleā set? While Iām at it when was the last time males got a strictly unique design solely for them? Nearly every single (if not every single) āuniqueā glamour outfit wearable by males are also able to be worn by females with the exception of swimwear (which there are male and female versions of).Ā
āItās easy to hate on it, letās see you design something then!ā I hear you saying. Iām no artist, but I know what I like to wear, and I know what I find aesthetically pleasing in regards to clothing.Ā
So trying to keep in line with the general tone of the Quaintrelle outfit⦠Iād lose the flared sleeves, shorten them to t-shirt length and fold down the collar. The doublet is really nice, itās just the weird length of the sleeves plus the popped ruffled collar makes it look like Elvis and a flamenco dancer got into it and all that remained was the blended mish-mash of their stage outfits. Iād lose the flare and ruffles on the pants entirely, tighten them up and crop them at the knee where the ruffle ends in the first place, with the sock covering the lower half of the leg (borrowing from historical menās fashion here). Replace the shoes with some 1920ā²s style lace up boots (ankle height, menās style)Ā and the hat with an Ivy cap (a type of flat cap).
The way the belt sits makes their hips look too low, which gives the pants a saggy look. Not a good look when the waistcoat itself sits higher and curves upwards at the hips.Ā
TL:DR?
SE needs to stop makingĀ āmale versionsā of female outfits, and vice versa. The comments surrounding having male only releases only come across as insincere (and a little bit sexist) when they end up beingĀ āgenderbentā versions of clothing that the girls have had for months now. Adding the subtext ofĀ āare you happy now??ā with every instance that this becomes an issue and SEĀ ācatersā to those of us who cry out just belittles the playerbase and fans of the game.Ā
Rant over, for now. Just keep in mind these are my opinions, my thoughts and observations (and more than enough alcohol to remove what little brain to mouth filter I have). Some people might like the outfit, I donāt. I think it was a waste of resources and shows how very little care SE has for the male side of the player spectrum. We were promised male only outfits, designed to be worn by the males in the gameā¦. Not aĀ āmale versionā of something thatās been in the games for months that was only accessible by females. Thatās not what we meant, and you know it Squeenix.
so i forgot to post this earlier but i commissioned thatassize on twitter to draw my handsome boy in the fem version of moonfaire gear from this year!!! i love him so much ;__;
