The day is finally here!! Happy Royai Big Bang Day!!

What is a big bang? A big bang is a fan-led event in which writers and artists collaborate together to create long-form content. Each writer gets a selection of artists drawing for their story, and a beta-reader if they choose. This event gives creatives a chance to bring their ideas to life in the form of creative teams.

Over the last 8 or so months our teams have been working so hard together to create a big BANG of royai fics and art, and today's the day they finally get to show it off!

We've got over 550k words of fanfic in store for you from our writers, all lovingly looked over and edited by our wonderful beta team! And around 40 pieces of art to share from our artists, each piece tied into a specific fic!

A big bang indeed!

Tips to meet deadlines and work with artists/writers/beta-readers on such a big project?

I would say just keep communication as much as possible!! :'0 sometimes I get distracted/busy and is hard for my brain to remember to text so is also good to just keep taps and reminders on how things are going!!

Also the moodboard/inspirations presentation you gave me where extremely useful!

For silliest one mmmm I like the idea of them doing make-up fights SDFGHJ I really like the part when she asks very angrily for leave after Roy "kills" Maria (She is handing him the divorce papers....) and I just like to imagine they do that A Lot to fuck with people. Faux extremely angry at each other to have arguments and considering they are both soldiers, sometimes it goes into the physical which is just them sparing. They could just act normal they could just decide to spar for the sake of it but noooo they Have To be extra about it and try and make a whole thing just to beat each other up (Without anything super serious ofc SDFGH)

Controversial one huuuuuuuuuuuh Idunno because I hang out with people who are hot and based like me so I don't have anything that I consider unpopular <3

I guess maybe that I like when Roy fucks around (Wink wink) because I know some people really don't like the idea of Roy being a real player SDFGHJ But again I mostly hang out with people who share my tastes so this isn't suuuper unpopular, just something I see people sometimes discussing over asdfghjk

And specific one.... Idunno, maybe huh I subscribe to the idea that Riza is younger than she should be, like she lied in her application to get into the army earlier than she should (I KNOW Ed got at like 12 but he did through the Alchemist program he isn't a soldier lol I imagine is a different standard) just because I like the tragedy of it. She truly went through hops just to dig herself in this mess <3

I don’t have any specific moodboard or playlists for this fic specifically, but I took the title from the R.E.M. song “World Leader Pretend” kind of last second and I do have a general Roy playlist and Riza playlist!

The ambiguity regarding what happened and will happen to them pre and post canon is both one of my favorite things about them and least favorite. I understand logically that overexplaining would harm the story and I trust in Arakawa’s choices of what should and should not have been included HOWEVER I always will be curious as to what she’d envision for them…I don’t really have any real “least favorite things” about them, though, at least as a pair (my main gripe with Roy is that I think he should have stayed blind). I mean, naturally I want to say “they should’ve kissed” because of course I’d love to see that however again logically I know the fact that they don’t is important.

As for tropes, I of course love anything angst or with intense yearning. Pretty expected for someone whose favorite ships are Royai and MSR. As for least favorite…I’m not really a fan of anything overly domestic. It’s not that I dislike it at all, it’s probably just me projecting, but I just cannot see them being in any sort of traditional family unit, at least in my mind where post canon leans a little more bleak for them that it does for, say, Ed or Al. I still think it’s fun to think about though and will indulge is some fluff from time to time—I can’t be miserable all the time nor can I let them be miserable all the time.

- We had a channel in our discord where we'd do writing sprints together, which was suuuuper helpful when I got stuck on something! Just get it out there, working as a group! Also my artist and beta are the best so I got lucky :) @aldrendaux @ic3-que3n

- I love writing angst, so by the nature of what hanahaki is it got more and more angsty until an Ultimate Angst Climax that was very fun for me. Sick and twisted.

- 1. Brain that is a little bit tired and free of inhibitions

2. Like a solid day of work where I'm not having to focus too hard so I can just think my thoughts and plan

3. Little drinky drink (water usually but bubble tea on the good days)

the thing you were most excited to draw for the event?

with big bang projects, i love seeing all the ideas that the writers come up with and envisioning what sort of piece i'd create even before getting my assignment(s). i think that's the most exciting part for me, the anticipation plus getting to rotate the characters in my head before settling on something. for what i ended up drawing for this project, i got to challenge myself with certain elements, like the perspective and lighting. it's always fun to experiment and draw things outside of my comfort zone.

roy or riza?

riza for sure. i love roy, and he was definitely my fave when i first watched brotherhood. but being part of this event opened my eyes to more of the fma fandom, and royai in particular. i've grown a huge appreciation for riza's character that i didn't have before and i love her so much!

why do you like royai so much?

their banter is so funny to me, like just get married already

i am working on an original piece! everything i've shared so far (snippets, aes, vibes) can be found in this tag here, #novel 2023

it all started when i had a Wee Thought and whipped up this... and saw this picture.......

and 45k words later, i'm in deep hahahaha

its a fantasy piece! we have our loveable two main characters, and loveable secondary characters as well! there's ailsa (ale-sa) and ruaraidh (roo-ray), eilidh (eh-lay) and arran, all gaelic/scottish names. i had to represent!

ailsa and eilidh are two sisters, both blessed with magic. ailsa had a "sure shot" kind of magic (i just really wanted to give her a bow and arrow lmao) and eilidh has "seer" magic. arran is our healer boi and is a golden retriever and he and eilidh are v much in love they're both v sweet. and ruaraidh is our mysterious little wild card who appears when he needs some help - and it just so happens he stumbles upon our trio! what are the chances of that!!

they go on their adventure. there's determination, there's feels, big and small, there's (hopefully 🙈) cosy vibes with some stakes. i have yet to create a clear and concise summary, so if you (or anyone!) would like to hear it, i'd be happy to whip something up!
