The further adventures of Social Anxiety Girl.
Decided I wanted more dynamic lighting and variation in their poses, so I scrapped the last four, and did some new sketches. So far mostly still figuring out nuances in shading and basic forms, so only Banichi has any actual rendering done.
Work in Progress shot of Algini. Eh, I think some anatomical things got lost in trying to render realistic lighting all up in there.
Bren's Aishid. ( from the foreigner series by c.j.cherryh) SUPER DUPER SKETCHTASTIC SKETCH.
Just trying to work out anatomy/expressions and how to make them look like very humanoid aliens without making them just look like humans. =/ It's very hard, I've decided. Kudos to sci-fi concept artists out there, idkhtf you do it!
Aside from that I feel like i mostly got their basic personalities showing through right. Glum Algini, Friendly Tano, Curious Jago, Banichi-ish Banichi. Maybe I'll fiddle with Banichi...he looks a little too mischeivous, haha.
Overdue thing for ErinKitty over on FA, of her Pathfinder character Polt!
Her hood is down because I just like her hairstyle so much. ;B
Kino Makoto
Super hero Elsa! Result of me reading The Flash comics and then watching Frozen again. IT'S SUPER ORIGINAL I KNOW /s. But it was fun to paint.
Bottom pic just for funsies to show how I usually start with a blobby, loose scribble to get color/light/composition and then build on it once I'm generally satisfied.
A little WIP shot of my next piece! Can you guess who it is? huehuehue
It's actually a full body image, I just haven't rendered much detail below what you see here. Mostly a big pixel-y mess right now.
Bren Cameron from C.J. Cherryh's Foreigner series.
I plan on doing the rest of the gang too!
Getting there! I feel like the face is finally right.
Onwarrrd to the fancy-ass coat and other things. I'm actually a little excited to go in and paint the lace. Hoohoohoo lacccee.
W.I.P. number two. Also known as: That hot chocolate totally had coffee in it, MIGHT AS WELL PAINT ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT BECAUSE FUCK SLEEP.
Much much improved after the previous WIP. He actually has a normal human's skull now. That, folks, is why you use reference when you paint, haha! And once his face looked like a normal human's, it was much easier to get the warm/clever grinning expression was aiming for.
I still feel like its not quiiiiiite there yet, but I think sorting out the lips and chin area a bit more will help.
And then on to the hair!
WIP of Bren Cameron from C.J. Cherryh's Foreigner series. <3
Love love love LOVE these books. And I love this character.
I'm trying to figure out the face before I continue on detailing elsewhere. Lips are bothering me, I've never been good at painting them, though. I also feel like his expression isn't quite how I wanted it. I want warm/kind but clever, and I feel like he's coming off as more sly and mischievous. Yarr, I'll get it eventually here. :/
Two OCs from a story of mine.
Tried painting on a bigger canvas, and tried forcing myself to zoom in to add smaller details. I tend to paint on small canvases and its holding me back. More detail! I can do it! Almost..!
That damn clock absolutely slaughtered me, but I'm VERY happy with how it looks in the end. Next painting is going to be something NOT circular or reflective or anything of that sort. Something easy! D=
An early stages WIP of my next still life.
The clock is killing me! Cursed concentric circles!! But I'm trying to fight through it. The actual clock has kind of a mother-of-pearl inlay where I have laid down the rainbow-y base colors, so if I can just get the circles to look right, it'll all look pretty bitchin' once I finally go in with the details.
At least...that's the thought that's keeping me motivated haha
Fin! Mostly....
Another still life! Still rendering the detail and textures, expecially on the forking wood block. UGH
