“Way to make a girl feel special, ey?” Ainsley replied as Nicholas explained his reasoning for her paying for her drink. She wasn’t normally one to get upset easily, but she hadn’t appreciated feeling like some sort of second choice. “Feel free to disregard my advice, but perhaps next time take someone you actually want to spend time with.”

“Ye’ve tried to bake back on the Isle before? I think that’s wonderful,” Ainsley smiled. “Although I imagine the ingredients aren’t as... tasty as the ones you can find in Auradon,” she added sympathetically. “Well how about we make an amazing batch and prove to Uma that ye can do better?”

“It’s back in my bed and doesn’t awake until a reasonable time, like ten am.” Rowan continued to complain, pulling the blanket further around her. “It’s freezing out here, if I didn’t know you so well I’d think you were trying to kill me or something.”

“Very funny,” she replied, giving Rowan another look. “Yer so dramatic, always making it look like I’m trying to torture ye,” Ainsley chuckled. “If anything, ye should be able to resist the cold better than I can. I don’t exactly have an extra pelt to keep me warm,” she pointed out.

“Normally I’m pretty good at this- but I’m pretty tired and I mustn’t have been paying close attention.” She commented, listening to the other and weighing their options before moving to the oven to look at the cookies, “I mean- they look and small alright, maybe it’ll be fine. We could just- wait and see?”

“I trust ye,” she replied truthfully, listening to Sabrina’s analysis of the situation. “Like ye said let’s wait and see. Leave them in there for a few more minutes and if in the meantime something happens, we can just pull ‘em out of the over before... they explode? I’m not too sure what could happen.”

Bea smiled at Ainsley in return, though it softened at Ainsley’s last comment. “Of course,” she replied. “I think it’s nice too. I don’t often get to hang out with someone just because I want to. Perhaps we should be part of things together more often,” she offered. Then, smiling wider, asked, “so what do you like to do for fun? What are your usual forms of self-care?”

“I’m sorry to hear that,” she sympathized, “But I also love yer idea. It would be nice to have a friend to do these sorts of things with.” Ainsley wasn’t particularly lonely, but her circle of friends was mainly her family and her best friend Rowan. It would be nice to welcome more people in it. “I mean I love to hike. Nothing calms me down like the forest and being around nature,” she admitted. “I also love to train. Perhaps it’s a little predictable of me but archery is a great way for me to relax too. I guess sometimes I take extra long baths in very hot water,” Ainsley added with a chuckle. “And yerself?”

Ainsley took a moment to collect herself, having jumped up in the air after being ambushed by Annabelle. Still in a state of shock, the redhead began to laugh, “I guess I’m much easier to scare than I thought! I’m going to have to get ye back some day.”

“Why are all the buildings around this place so far away.” Hugo shouted to the red head over the sound of the rain as they ran to the closest shelter they could find, when in there he couldn’t help but grumble. “And the fact it’s a barn- sure it’s dry but I’m going to end up freezing my ass off in here.” He commented, already shivering from the rain.

“Our situation is less than ideal, yer right,” Ainsley nodded as she rung out her hair when they got into the barn. It would be frizzing up similarly to her mother’s sooner than later. “But at least there’s a few animals in here we could probably huddle to for warmth if things get really desperate?” she suggested with a little chuckle.

“Not really,” Bea answered. ‘Self care’ wasn’t a habit she kept up on too much, but she was making an effort. “I did when I was younger and had more time on my hands. All the time, really. I was pretty… pampered. Suppose in some ways I still am.” She adjusted herself in the seat, leaning back until she was comfortable, then glanced over at Ainsley. “Hey, maybe if you like it, we’ll make a habit of it.”

“That’s so sweet,” Ainsley replied, unable to help the smile that tugged at her lips at that thought. “I’ll let ye know how I like it at the end of our day here,” she promised. “It’s nice to uh... to feel like yer a part of something,” the redhead admitted in a quieter voice.

“All the better for ye then,” she chuckled softly when he admitted he didn’t often come across people with weapons. “A dog? Can't say I have,” Ainsley replied with a slight pout, sad that an animal was lost. “Would ye like some help searchin’ for her?” she asked, lowering her unarmed bow in an unthreatening manner.

“Surprisingly not.” Sabrina commented, a hand over her heart as she looked at the other, “And I don’t think it would have killed me, slightly maimed, yes. Killed, no.”

“I realise that was an exaggeration on ma part, but I'm glad I didn't hit ye regardless,” she was quick to admit fault, nodding in agreement with the blonde. “Are ye okay though? That was quite the noise. Took me by surprise.”

She had hoped nobody had seen her fall. The sport field was empty this time of day, too bad she couldn’t say the same about the archery range nearby. Ainsley the archery instructor had been standing nearby. Although they were close in age, the though of angering a teacher of any sorts worried Seola.

“I’m terribly sorry. I didn’t mean to. I’m just a bit clumsy today is all. I was actually hoping to get a little practice in myself. I’ve decided to take up the skill but I haven’t held a bow since childhood. I don’t suppose you can give me a few tips? Even if it isn’t class time?” Seola hoped her inquiry would soften the near-death experience. She wasn’t actually too keen on learning archery but it was a white lie for gestures sake. Besides, having an extra talent wouldn’t do any harm.

Ainsley held her bow down, the rest of her arrows resting in the quiver on her back, safely and securely. She made sure there was no danger to the girl who had approached her. “Seola,” she smiled, listening to her before being quick to nod. “I would love tae teach ye!” Ainsley could look intimidating, but she was always happy to help anyone who needed it. 

She handed Seola the arrow-less bow. “Now stand parallel tae the target,” she instructed, repeating the stance she had just been in so Seola could mirror it. “Ye did want a quick lesson right now, right?” Ainsley interjected her own instructions, curious if she had perhaps gotten a little ahead of herself.
