We have a new maid that started a few weeks ago. She has some disabilities but she manages the work fine. She doesn’t really speak and has a little trouble getting around the hotel independently.

When we arrive in the morning we must go to front desk to get our room and duty lists for the day and we must always smile and say “guten morgen” to the boss. She didn’t greet the boss, and this bitch had to turn it into a fucking mountain.

The boss knows the girl doesn’t really talk and needs a little extra care, but she is an asshole and so she doesn’t care. She starts yelling at the girl and tells me to bring her back down to the basement, explain how the morning routine goes and bring her back up so she can try it again.

Take two! She says “guten morgen” very quietly but she apparently said it from too far away a distance and so my asshole boss starts yelling again and had to make a 20 minute briefing with all of us on how she should be greeted in the morning. Most of the time she deems us unworthy and won’t even say hello back anyway.

a lot of men say they want women to embrace their natural beauty but they really just want women who are already “pretty enough” without makeup to not wear makeup… like, you don’t want someone to show their natural acne and scars and natural hyper pigmentation, you don’t let women have their natural mustaches, chin hair, beards, and unibrows without shitting on them, which is exactly how they grow for a lot of people, etc. you want women to wax and shape their natural brows, remove their natural facial hair and body hair, and do a strict skincare regimen to manipulate the chemistry and physiological processes of their skin to maintain clear unblemished skin and adhere to already existing beauty standards. you just don’t want them to wear the style of makeup you don’t like lol

Confession: It’s sad that as a whole we’ll all agree that in the healthcare field, black people are treated unfairly and we’ll tell other people not to diminish the feelings of those who feel they were misdiagnosed or mistreated for being black but EVERY SINGLE TIME a “light skinned” woman mentions a single struggle that she may have on this site, we laugh at her, drag her, disrespect her and diminish HER feelings as if she’s not a black woman and her feelings don’t matter. 

You can’t take anyone’s experiences from them. You’re not in that sister’s shoes. You don’t know the depths of her hurt. Just as you don’t know the depths of a dark skinned sister’s pain and hurt. I don’t find it funny to disrespect each other based on skin tone on ANY LEVEL. I get PISSED when a dark skinned woman speaks on her struggles because she simply should NOT be mistreated because of her melanin. Why? Because no matter what shade or nationality, you’re my sisters! 

I get pissed when light skinned women talk about certain struggles because they shouldn’t be mistreated because of their skin tone either. Why? Because no matter what shade or nationality, you’re my sisters! This, my sisters, is too a form of misogyny and we ought to love one another more period! I find it sad that we’ve let white supremacy destroy our unity on all ends. Black men disrespect our women, black women disrespect our men, light skinned vs dark skinned (which is stupid as hell in my opinion) straight hair vs natural hair… Like WTF is going on with SOME of us?

Idk I guess I’m like Freddie from a different world. Peaceful but down for the cause. Loving. Desperate for unity. Maybe it’s a far fetched dream but a lot of the division bothers me deeply. And it bothers me because I love black people with the depths of my soul and I hate to see us disrespecting one another on ANY LEVEL.

Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority”

and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person”

and they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay.

Yesterday when I got to work, I found my coworker outside in the freezing cold. She arrived about 20 minutes too early so as a punishment for not checking the schedule for changes the day before our boss locked her outside in the cold and wouldn’t even let her in to our locker room. She did that to me too back in November when it was raining.

This coworker and I often visit after work to have a beer or two and talk about what a horrible place this is to work. We are being overworked and bullied into signing documents that say our over hours are our own fault for being too slow and therefore no extra money is owed to us. We work way more than our contracts stated when we were hired.

We work in constant fear and when we come home we are still stressed and in fear of the next day. What a way to live…
