It’s hard to say goodbye to such a wonderful franchise, but it sure was a wonderful journey. Thank you for everything, Engeki Haikyuu~! (〃^▽^〃)

Behind the Scenes of Sato Takeru‘s Surprise Appearance
~transition~
As Heisei Riders, twenty series have been broadcast since ‘Kamen Rider Kuuga (2000)’ until ‘Kamen Rider Zi-O’, which is now being aired. In the latest film, all the past riders appear and you can call it ‘the gorgeous compilation of Heisei Riders’.
It was not until the premiere of the film that Sato’s surprise appearance in the film was disclosed. Heisei Rider series have produced an array of handsome actors such as Takeuchi Ryoma (25 KR Drive) and Fukushi Sota (25 KR Fourze). Many of them grew to be nationwide popular actors. One of them is Sato, who played the lead in ‘Kamen Rider Den-O’ (2007).
As the news spread by word of mouth on the release of the film, that Sato appears in the film just like the signature phrase ‘Here I come! (Ore sanjo!)’, a large audience are streaming into theaters.
‘I went to see the film during the successive holidays. When Nogami Ryotaro (played by Dato) appeared on the screen, the audience murmured excitedly. ‘ (male fan)
This surprise delighted a lot of fans but the film had actually aimed at a ’W surprise’. They say they had considered using Suda Masaki, who played the lead in ‘Kamen Rider W (2009)’.
The production side had offered Suda-kun to play a role. Although Suda-kun also desired to do so by some means or other, he had been all booked up till two years ahead at any rate. So they were obliged to give it up. (those who are concerned)
They were not able to arrange a W surprise, and Sato accepted additional responsibility for Suda.
‘We were under strict orders with Takeru-kun’s appearance to keep it pretty secret. They were so careful that they sealed the building used as the shooting site with blinds and even entered the building from underground by car. I wonder how they could keep it secret until the premiere. ‘ (ditto)
This episode tells us how much the production side thought of Sato.
By the way, people held high expectations for Mizushima Hiro (34), who played the lead in Kamen Rider Kabuto (2006), to play in the film, too, but in his Instagram he revealed that he wasn’t offered a role and then commented, ‘I wish the film to be a great success. I’ll go and see it’.
Many fans got excited with joy and the surprise was a big success, but they say there was another reason why they kept Sato’s appearance secret till the premiere.
A person who is concerned with a film production company says, ‘It is indeed a surprise for the fans, but normally, Sato-san’s appearance should be a perfect promotion for the film company to attract large audience, so they usually have the media to advertise , like ‘Cast Decided!’ But recently in the film industry, there are many cases that films become a big hit through word of mouth, such as ‘Kamera o Tomeru na!, lit. “Don’t Stop the Camera!” Sato-san this time might have been used for the word-of-mouth effect.’
This film became a popular topic of conversation as soon as it was released. Just look whether it will be a great hit as aimed.
How did the film ‘Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final’ become ‘Den-O Film’? Sato Takeru’s thoughts were revealed.
22:19 December 27, 2018 My Natalie
To celebrate the release of the 20th anniversary film, ‘Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Rider’, ‘Den-O Night’ was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo on December 27 and Seki Toshihiko and Yusa Koji, the voice actors, Kobayashi Yasuko, the scenario writer, and Shirakura Shinichiro and Takebe Naomi, the producers, appeared on the stage. •CAUTION:This article includes spoilers.
Seki
In the film ‘Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Rider’, now showing, Sato Takeru, who played the lead in ‘Kamen Rider Den-O’, made a guest appearance. In addition, voice actors for Imagins, such as Seki Toshihiko, and Ishimaru Kenjiro as Owner also played in the film. In this event, after showing the film, five people who were involved in ‘Den-O’ appeared on the stage. Seki as Momotarosu said with a smile, ‘I hear that after eleven years since the TV series Den-O’ ended, its fans have grown into fathers and mothers and they are spreading ‘Den-O’ to their children. It made me surprised and happy. I think ‘Den-O’ will keep running.’
Yusa as Uratarosu referred to numerous spin-off works, saying, ‘Usually, Kamen Rider series change to the next drama year after year, but somehow ‘Den-O’ continued for three or four years … When we appear on the stage like this, I can feel your relaxed atmosphere. It is very ‘Den-O’-like’.
Kobayashi Yasuko
Kobayashi was in charge of supervising the scenario for ‘Den-O’ part in ‘Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Rider’. She wrote the scenario related to Den-O for the first time since Cho-Den-O Trilogy
series. ‘It has been really a long time after that, but once I got started, the lines emerged just like before’, she reflected.
When Yusa talked about the frequent improvisations of suit-actors, Shirakura revealed bts, ‘When I asked Takaiwa Seiji-san to play all the Den-O forms, he made a cryptic condition, saying ‘Hmm, please put Ogura Toshihiro-san in Ryutarosu’. I suspected they must be up to something as Momo and Ryu; they started to plan something as soon as they knew it’.
Shirakura Shinichiro
Asked why he featured Den-O in this film, Shirakura explained; ‘Den-O deals with ‘time’ just like ‘Kamen Rider Zi-O’, so we thought it would be impossible to absorb the factor of ‘Den-O’ unless we place it as a major part. It seems that once we introduced Den-O, the film was taken over. It turned out to be a Den-O film after a long interval since ‘Trilogy’ lol’.
Kobayashi and others also revealed the reason why Ryotaro, which Sato played, appeared as’U-Ryotaro’ possessed by Uratarosu. It was based on the idea of Sato himself; ‘I can play U-Ryotaro but if I played Ryotaro without Imagin at my age now, it would ruin people’s dreams. It is good that Ryotaro has grown up after ten years, but on the other hand, it means it will break their dreams’.
Yusa recollected and said, ‘Takeru-kun’s voice was calm. Ten years ago, we completely possessed Ryotaro’s personality, but now, as Ryotaro has grown up, I acted to blend, or a bit approach Takeru-kun.
Takebe Naomi
Seki said excitedly about the conversation between Ryotaro and Momotarosu, ‘In the final episode of the TV series, Yasuko-san wrote the line ‘Someday in the future’. It flashed back during the post-recording. That is really a memorable line, isn’t it? I wondered if you were a prophet!’
Seki also confessed that he had visited a theater to see the reaction of the audience on the day of the release because Sato’s appearance was not disclosed a bit until the premiere. The fact was revealed that, at first, even Shimoyama Kento, the scenario writer of this film, was not informed of Sato’s appearance. To hear that, the audience gasped in surprise.
Posters of the films shown in this event; Saraba Kamen Rider Den-O the Movie: Final Countdown director’s cut version, Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Rider, and Kamen Rider Den-O the Movie: I’m Born!
At the end of the event, comments from Den-O cast were read. Terasoma Masaki as Kintarosu said, ‘I wept over your hot heart!!’ and Suzumura Kenichi as Ryutarosu said, ‘I love Den-O, OK? Your answer doesn’t matter!!’ conveying their affection for their signature phrases.
Ishimaru sent a message, ‘Den-Liner will continue to run forever. Someday, somewhere, again ……
At the end of the talk part, Takebe said, ‘I think we could do a little bigger project (of Den-O), so I will whisper at Shirakura-san’s ear’.
Shirakura said, ‘When I saw Den-Liner this time, I felt how excited I was and that Den-Liner is not just a vehicle but it has a dream’.
Kobayashi said every time she heard the fans say, ’I loved Den-O very much!’, she felt a bit frustrated. She eagerly said, ‘I hope to be able to write something that exceeds this one’.
Yusa talked about the peculiarity of Den-O, ‘Not any of us Imagins intended to save the world in the least lol. But we love Den-O and the story was more peaceful and at home compared with other Riders’.
Seki showed his gratitude for the encounter with Den-O and said, ‘When it was on air, I was 45 years old. Looking back, it might have been a reward from god for my efforts I had made in this world till 45 years’.
<Ishimaru Jojiro’s comment>
•Frank impression in hearing about this offer:
I have always been prepared because I’ve had a feeling that Den-Liner would come to collect me.
•Receiving the offered to play in this film:
I cheered up, ‘OK, here it came!’
•The impression of the reunion and costarring with the familiar members:
Just like before, new ideas overflowed. We shook manly hands with each other and had a very dense and enjoyable time.
•Message to the fans:
Den-Liner will continue to run forever. Someday, somewhere, again ……
<Terasoma Masaki’s comment>
•Frank impression in hearing about this offer:
Great for you, Shirakura and Takebe producers! For the last in Heisei period!!
•The impression of the reunion and costarring with the familiar members:
Dir. Yamaguchi was an assistant director as the TV series but now he performed an important duty of closing Heisei Kamen Riders. I can’t help feeling happy as one of the co-workers who were involved in making a film together.
The shooting site was filled with smiles, and it looked just like everyone came back to the hometown.
•Message to the fans:
Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for loving Den-O for a long time.
I wept over your hot heart!!
<Suzumura Kenichi’s comment>
•Frank impression in hearing about this offer:
I knew about Kamen Rider Zi-O, so I had been looking forward to the offer, wondering, ‘When will they call me?’ But I also thought, ‘Last time only me, out of four Tarosus, wasn’t invited ……’, so I’m happiest ever to be able to join lol.
•The impression of the reunion and costarring with the familiar members:
As for Den-O, somehow, I hadn’t felt nostalgic so much. I’d often seen four Tarosus at the shooting site, so there had been an indescribable sense of activeness in me. But this time, during the post-recording, the moment Sato Takeru-kun was shown on the monitor, I had goosebumps because it brought back memories of the post-recording in those days at once. I realized that definitely time has passed, and at the same time, I felt kind of proud. After eleven years, Den-O can be back again, which shows the work is really wonderful. And I felt that everyone would be surprised and pleased at his appearance. I felt a lump to my throat, re-realizing that I took part in such a great work.
I say in a loud voice again!
‘I love Den-O, OK? Your answer doesn’t matter!!’
•Message to the fans:
It’s a shame that I cannot join Den-O Night, but I let my heart fly there. I hope you have a wonderful night.
