lowkey hate the take that anya was right when she said that buffy should charge people whose lives she's saved for her life saving services. is that not just the superhero equivalent of making people pay a thousand dollars for an ambulance ride? how can you advocate for universal healthcare and then turn around and say that people should have to pay to literally not be murdered? and then people try to justify it like, well angel charges people but they don't let buffy do it, this is clearly because of misogyny. and maybe it is because of misogyny idk. but also, just because angel is a capitalist shill doesn't mean that buffy has to be. personally, i think it's good characterization for buffy to take a strong and consistent ethical stance about this, one that is unaffected by whatever the fuck her ex is doing.

don't get me wrong, buffy deserves to get paid for slaying. she deserves to get paid sooooo much. but there is canonically a wealthy organization in charge of slayers that pays giles a salary but doesn't pay buffy. clearly the problem is that the watcher's council doesn't pay her for the grueling, dangerous, and highly traumatic labor that buffy performs on a daily basis. not that buffy won't charge vulnerable people for something that they can't control.

I feel like Ilya would definitely get some “ball and chain” type of comments regarding Shane and at one point he ends up in a group of guys who start ragging on him when he's thinking about heading out early, calling him whipped, joking about Shane having him on a tight leash, and Ilya ends up just saying, genuinely confused, “do you guys not like your wives?” There’s complete silence for a second before Ilya continues, “maybe you should give them the chance to find someone who actually enjoys spending time with them." Your partner wants you to know that they're happy they made it home and survived their horrific ordeal, but also that if anything happens to the fish then they're going to kill everyone on this planet and then themself.

You're honestly wondering if you're even helping the fish, or just prolonging its suffering, but your partner will only accept medical help for their many injuries or engage in basic self-care once they're confident that the fish is being looked after.

So you get a tank. You set up a filter and all that stuff. You learn way more than you ever wanted to know about water temperature and ph and nitrate levels. The fish is safe. You start to develop some affection for the little guy. Your partner begins to recover. The fish begins to recover.

Which is when you learn that in its 'healthy' state, the fish regularly refuses to sleep when tired, keeps begging for food that is obviously unhealthy for it (and struggling to eat the food that you do provide because “it tastes gross”), and continually tries to persuade your partner to take it out of its nice safe tank so it can go explore the wonderful world of Outside, where the slightest mishap will kill it instantly.
