Yashahime Episode 6 Summary

“Nekojuan of the Old Temple”

Short Version

Towa and the others head into the northern mountains to resolve an incident where travelers are going missing. Along the way, they save a village that has been possessed by monster cats. When they chase the escaping monster cats, they reach an old temple and from within it, the handsome monk, Juan appears.

Full Version

An incident occurs where travelers go missing one after another. Towa and the others, who have been entrusted with the task of resolving the incident, head into the northern mountains but along the way encounter a village that has been possessed by monster cats. Towa and co., who save the village by driving away the monster cats, chase after them and reach an old temple. A single handsome monk emerges from the temple. Juan looks just like Mei’s (Towa’s younger sister) absolute favorite idol, Julian. There is an old legend passed down within the temple. Around 100 years ago, a monk with strong spiritual powers sealed a demon and placed its corpse underneath the floor of the temple.

Explanation: In this episode they will be taking inspiration from chapter 393-395 of the manga. In the manga, a nun that held a ceremorial service knowing of the legend, the sutra that was recited with compassion became what reawakened the cat demon that had made the temple and the body of the nun, it’s own. They find out that the cat demon they were fighting outside the temple was used as a distraction while the Nun that was possesed by the Cat Demon was controlling the bones inside the temple, as a way for them to eat Kagome. InuYasha absorbs the cat demon from the nun with the Dragon Scaled Tessaiga, saving her. Since this takes inspiration from the manga, I suggest you guys check out those chapters!

They are so beautifully angsty. All the fairytale OTP tropes are right there: •The knight in shining armor on his way to rescue his fair maiden, trapped under some magical spell. •The human x inhuman being falling in love deeply regardless of the hurt their lifespan differences might bring them. •The undying resolve to be with their one true love in spite of all odds. In a japanese setting. Sumisawa mentioned in the first animage interview, this series has a lot of romance. And I CAN FEEL IT ALREADY.

I just don’t get how y’all keep saying Kagura is the mom. They are Hanyou’s .... I don’t think we watching the same show.

Yashahime op changes?

So some eagle-eyed fans pointed out a detail from the opening of Yashahime which might just mean something. I tried it out for myself and I think the animators are on to something lol.

I paused the same part of the opening for every odd-numbered Yashahime episode and that each time, we see a little bit more of Inuyasha. Not only that, in the opening from episode 5 there are some slight but noticeable changes in both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru’s expressions, particularly their eyes. I don’t know if Inuyasha’s eyebrow was deliberately cut off this time or not, but Sesshomaru’s eyes are now more closed and you can see his eyelids now. It almost feels like we’re getting closer to something and I’m really excited to see how this transitions with the rest of the series.
