Poor Mrs Weasley lol.
Another classic.

I love Ron very much. I love that Ron was made Prefect because even though his brothers were Prefects, too (partially), it was still something he had for himself, something that showed him "Yes, I'm worth something". I do find Dumbledore's reasoning and Hermione's reaction shitty. Ron deserved to be Prefect because he's a really good and responsible person. I mean, "responsible" isn't the first word that you'd associate with him but still.
just some highlights of ronâs career as a prefect:
âRon?â said Hermione, her jaw dropping. âBut ⌠are you sure? Imean ââShe turned red as Ron looked around at her with a defiant expressionon his face.âItâs my name on the letter,â he said.
i love how, after not having said a word since he opened the letter, baring through all of fred and georgeâs teasing, his first response to hermione is to defend his position, âa defiant expressionâ thatâs right ron you earned that badge donât let anyone make you think otherwise
âWait until your father hears! Ron, Iâm so proud of you, what wonderfulnews, you could end up Head Boy just like Bill and Percy, itâsthe first step! Oh, what a thing to happen in the middle of all thisworry, Iâm just thrilled, oh Ronnie ââ
MOLLY IS SO PROUD OF HIM AND I CRY
âHarry noticed that Ronkept moving his prefectâs badge around, first placing it on his bedsidetable, then putting it into his jeans pocket, then taking it out and layingit on his folded robes, as though to see the effect of the red on theblack. Only when Fred and George dropped in and offered to attachit to his forehead with a Permanent Sticking Charm did he wrap ittenderly in his maroon socks and lock it in his trunk.â
i love how he tries to pretend like itâs no big deal and he really couldnât care less about it but heâs also really secretly proud and happy and HE WRAPPED THE BADGE /TENDERLY/ IN HIS SOCKS I CANâT W THIS CHILD MY SMOL
âWeâd better change,â said Hermione at last. She and Ron pinnedtheir prefect badges carefully to their chests. Harry saw Ron checkinghow it looked in the black window.
HEâS SO CUTE IâM NOT OKSY
âThen youâre mad too,â said Seamus in disgust.âYeah? Well unfortunately for you, pal, Iâm also a prefect!â saidRon, jabbing himself in the chest with a finger. âSo unless you wantdetention, watch your mouth!â
RON USING HIS PREFECT POSITION TO STICK UP FOR HIS BFF IS MY FAVE THING ON THIS PLANET IâM A MESS like heâs been sort of ashamed this whole time bc he doesnât want to end up like percy and he doesnât really consider being a prefect to be a cool thing and he always shies away from giving out detentions etc, but someone insults harry and heâs all WTF DID YOU SAY TO MY BRO #FIGHTME
âI feel I owe you another explanation, Harry,â said Dumbledorehesitantly. âYou may, perhaps, have wondered why I never chose youas a prefect? I must confess ⌠that I rather thought ⌠you hadenough responsibility to be going on with.â
yeah, well, fuck you too, dumbledore
basically i love ron weasley and i love the fact that he was made prefect and i love how (after some hesitancy) he accepted the responsibility and i love how he felt like he was worth something for once and i love i love i love I LOVE
Screw you, Dumbledore- Ron deserved that prefect role.Â
And deserved it more than Harry.Â
Ron only got detention 3 times in the whole book - Ford Anglia, and twice from Snape (both times for defending people/arguing with Snape). He has never once been caught fighting, dueling, out of bed etc. Compare this to Harry, who has served more detentions than anyone else in the books. Harry is a born rule-breaker, much more than Ron has ever been. Ron helps balance him out, knows when itâs the right time to break the rules, or the wrong time.
Ron has good grades. Harry is only able to out-do him in DADA, which even Hermione canât do. Ron is never failing classes or all that behind, despite the amount of time he is in the hospital wing. He puts things off to the last minute, but still manages his course loads well.
Ron didnât have extracurriculars that would make being a prefect difficult, vs Harry who did.
Ron is always defending those who deserve to be defended, more so than any of the other Gryff boys. Heâs cheering Neville on all the time, even in book 1, defending Harry, Hermione, muggleborns etc. Someone who is willing to do this shows clear leadership skills, but also the compassion that makes them ideal to be a prefect. Comparitively, Harry rushes in headfirst to save people, but also doesnât do much to bolster people like Ron does, as heâs a bit more stoic.
Ron is always trying to report issues to an adult in charge who they trust- vs Harry wants to handle everything himself and does not trust adult authority figures.
In the end, Ron was the best candidate of the Gryffindor boys BY FAR.
Recently saw some Quorans claim that Neville shouldâve been made prefect - so Iâm bringing that back for reference. Bless you, Hilly. âĽ
@vivithefolle Aww thanks! :D
Okay, so Ron was clearly the best choice in their year for Prefect. Dean and Seamus didnât have any obvious leadership qualities; Neville would have taken it the same way he did winning the house cup first year, as a joke at his expense, *and* as of the beginning of fifth year hadnât shown any leadership qualities either; and Harry at that point was not in any way psychologically equipped for the job even if Ronâs gentle empathy werenât a better fit for a prefect than Harryâs fierce charisma.
Why, then, did Dumbledore tell Harry he would have made him prefect? Itâs important to understand the significance of that scene in Dumbledoreâs office. This is, if you recall, the scene where Harry is smashing Dumbledoreâs office and screaming that he doesnât care. Sirius is dead, Harryâs just been posessed, this is the end of the road. Meanwhile, Dumbledore has had his suspicions about the horcruxes partially confirmed: he knows what Harry is going to have to do.
Harry is broken at this point, and Dumbledore has three goals in reconstructing him. First, solidify Harryâs absolute loyalty to Dumbledore; Siriusâs death paves the way for that, since Sirius was his only meaningful competition for Harryâs loyalty. Second, imbue Harry with a sense of his purpose; this is the moment when Harry becomes a weapon aimed at Voldemortâs heart. Third, and paradoxically, he has to nurture Harryâs s***ty super power. He has to make sure he doesnât detach entirely from his love for his friends, because despite his connivance, Dumbledore really *does* care about Harry. Itâs that attachment that offers the only hope of bringing Harry out the other side of the mission alive.
Everything Dumbledore says and does in this scene is aimed toward those goals. (Note that âgive Harry accurate informationâ is not on the list.) How does what he says about Ron play into it? First, he wants to assure Harry that he really is Dumbledoreâs favorite, that he hasnât been showing favor to other people, in order to deepen Harryâs loyalty to him. In the same vein, he wants to express sympathy for the burden Harry is taking up, without in any way suggesting he might be relieved of it. âObviously killing Voldemort is on you, why would I lay any more on you?â (This is pretty much exactly what he says.) Third, he wants to heal any rift that making Ron a prefect might have created between them. I think that here heâs not understanding Harry very well, actually; Harry is already over his resentment of Ron for making prefect. (Dumbledore may be thinking of himself on that one.)
Would Dumbledore actually have made Harry prefect if Voldemort hadnât come back? Yeah, probably, given the way he played favorites with Harry previously. (End of first year is the most glaring example.) Does that mean Harry was the best choice? Definitely not.
Yes!! Excellent addition

Harry looked over at Hermione and the question he had been about to ask died in his throat. Hermione was watching Ron fret over the fate of the Cattermoles, and there was such tenderness in her expression that Harry felt almost as if he had surprised her in the act of kissing him.
-Deathly Hallows
I LOVE RON SO MUCH- like, there they are, in the woods- everything is suddenly f$%^ed. Heâs bled so much he fainted and is grievously injured, has that damned locket starting to effect him, they donât know what to do next- AND HEâS THINKING OF THE CATTERMOLES! D: Â
THIS IS WHY HERMIONE IS EYEING HIM UP. I mean⌠This is why she LOVES him. Like, she and Harry donât think like that. They are so driven with purpose that itâs easy for them to forget the little guy. RON NEVER FORGETS THE LITTLE GUY!
BONUS: Harry being cool as hell about this:
Can you list the Ron moments that the movie missed our changed?... or maybe give a link to a post which already has the list.
Okay, this is going to be done from memory so bear with me.Â
Philosopherâs Stone
Ron offering to share his food with Harry from the moment they meet.
Ron teaching Harry how to play wizardâs chess (this is kind of in the film but not explicitly so I thought Iâd include it.)
Staying over Christmas with Harry and trying to cheer him up after the mirror incidents (I think they did film a part of this but it was a deleted scene for some reason ??? why ???)
RON BEING THE CALM ONE DURING THE DEVILâS SNARE SCENE NOT HERMIONE (âBut thereâs no wood!â âAre you a witch or not?â)
Chamber of Secrets
Constantly defending Harry from Draco
The scene where Draco calls Hermione a mudblood and it was actually Ron who new what the term meant and explained it, not Hermione
Visiting Hermione in the hospital wing after she turns herself into a cat and bringing her all her homework that she missed
Ron going into a freaking forest full of spiders and tackling his biggest fear. Even though he was shaking the entire time and is so terrified he canât even speak by the end of it and actually /throws up/ afterwards, he still went and did it because it needed to be done and he wasnât about to let Harry go alone. (Okay so this was in the films but I really donât think they actually captured the gravity of it, instead choosing to turn Ron into comic relief⌠Again.)
Being the one to go to the hospital wing so that Hermione will have someone with her so sheâs not alone and to explain what happened when she wakes up
Prisoner of Azkaban
Actually being really concerned about Scabbersâ health and buying the rat tonic for him
Actual background to the Crooksanks v Scabbers business instead of just villainising Ron for the sake of making Hermione seem better
When he was literally woken up by Sirius holding a knife over his bed, who, as far as anyone knew then, was a mass murderer??? Why isnât this talked about more ??
âYOU ASKED A QUESTION AND SHE KNOWS THE ANSWER, WHY ASK IF YOU DONâT WANT TO BE TOLD?âÂ
Noticing Hermioneâs weird af schedule and being the only one to aCTUALLY CARE about where she was going and what she was doing
Literally fucking pushing Harry out of the way when they see Sirius in dog form (who they think is The Grim) and consequently getting a broken leg + dragged by his arm into the Whomping Willow
Awkwardly patting Hermione on the head after she apologises, instead of that weird hug thing they share in the films
Taking on Buckbeakâs appeal and dedicating so much time and effort into his case. Call this boy lazy or apathetic again I dare you.
Standing up on a BROKEN LEG to tell Sirius, who, again, was thought to be a MASS MURDERER, that âIf you want to kill Harry youâll have to kill us too!â whilst Hermione stood frozen in the corner
Making peace with Crookshanks at the end of the book by holding Pigwidgeon up for him to check that he isnât evil (I love Ron so much)
Goblet of Fire
âWeâll pick you up on Sunday if you can come, and weâll still pick you up on Sunday if you canâtâ (or something like that) when talking about the quidditch world cup
The background and reasoning behind the big fight with Harry (+the later argument they had where Harry threw the badge @ his head.)
The actual insecurity Ron suffered because of the dress robes, not just the comic relief side of it.
Helping Harry practice for the second and third tasks practically 24/7 (including letting Harry practice stunning on him!!! #dedication)
Getting Krum to sign his autograph + basically all of hIS HUGE CRUSH ON KRUM JFC
Just generally being there for Harry after Cedric even when Harry pushes him away
Order of the Phoenix
Again, just generally being there for Harry even when Harry is being an ass to him (+ the part where Ron desperately wants to tell him whatâs going on but Hermione + all the adults insists that they canât)
RON WEASLEY BECOMING A MOTHERFUCKING PREFECT
The year of quidditch which, although being an essential part of the book with the whole Umbridge arc, is not even MENTIONED in the film. Literally, itâs one of the only films that doesnât feature quidditch yet itâs the book where Iâd consider quidditch to be the most important.
Anyway, yes, quidditch. Ron getting a new broom and sneaking out to practice so he can try out for the team
HERMIONE KISSING HIM ON THE CHEEK FOR LUCK. I SCREAM.
Ron making it on the team and having very very very little confidence so heâs⌠quite terrible the first few matches.
The awful âWeasley is Our Kingâ song that Malfoy made and the Slytherins take to singing at. Every. Single. Match.
Ron gaining his confidence and destroying the other team at quidditch, during which, neither Harry or Hermione were actually there to witness it. And Ron is so happy and proud but when Harry and Hermione start talking about Grawp, instead of being petty and angry at them, he listens intently and tries to help
Always backing up Harry when Hermione is being slightly insufferable towards him and not really understanding of his needs. (e.g when sheâs pressuring him to do better at occlumency and Ron tells her to back off)
The whole arc where Arthur gets injured and all the Weasleys are sat around the kitchen at Grimmauld place waiting for news + the parts in St Mungos (this was in the film a little but they really didnât go into the effect it had on the Weasleys. Especially Ron and Ginny)
The miraculous plan they all come up with to get Harry into Umbridgeâs office (which, admittedly, backfires, but hey. At least they tries) during which Ron plays a pivotal role, not just a struggling character in the background
Everything to do with the ministry tbh ??? From battling death eaters to the spell that makes him delirious to the brain almost suffocating him
Staying in the hospital wing with Hermione for the rest of the year and the scars all down his arms from where the brain attacked him
Half Blood Prince
When Hermione is talking about why girls find Harry attractive and Ron is all like âLook at me Hermione! Iâm tall too! I have scars too!âÂ
Backing up Harry when he answers Snapeâs question about inferi compared to ghosts (âWell what Harry said was the most useful! If Iâm going to face an inferi Iâm going to be looking for if itâs transparent not asking âexcuse me are you the imprint of a departed soul?ââ or something similar. Get wrecked Snape.)
All of the quidditch moments in this book are golden.
That moment where Hermione super awkwardly asks Ron to Slughornâs party and Harry is just in the background like,,, what an interesting plant
Ginny antagonising Ron about never having kissed anyone and the subsequent Lavender disaster that followed
Everything to do with Lavender tbh. Like, their whole relationship, not just the comic version in the movies
Ronâs getting poisoned actually being a really serious thing and all his family showing up at the hospital wing
Pretending to be asleep when Lavender comes to visit (Ron Weasley how dare you, your mother raised you better than this)
Okay, I really want to make a separate post about this but the whole Luna/Ron friendship in this one is gold
I feel like we as a fandom collectively forget this one but Ron and the rest of the DA fighting the death eaters with felix felicis whilst Harry is up the astronomy tower with Dumbledore
Holding Hermione at Dumbledoreâs funeral ???? Honestly thatâs all I need in life
RONÂ âWEâRE WITH YOU WHATEVER HAPPENSâ WEASLEY VOWING TO ALWAYS BE AT HARRYâS SIDE INSTEAD OF SITTING IN THE BACKGROUND LIKE A STALE POTATO WHILST HARRY AND HERMIONE PLAN
Deathly Hallows
Giving Harry the how to charm witches book and actively trying to start a relationship with Hermione
Comforting Hermione when sheâs upset and not being awkward about it !!!! Character development (Iâm seeing a parallel to the head pat in PoA, anyone else?)
Standing up to the Minister of Magic at the age of seventeen like. Honestly Ron Weasley is such a badass I love him
Literally giving up a life of comfort and security to go and live as a fugitive in order to help Harry
Pushing Hermione the fuck out of the way when theyâre found by Death Eaters near Charlesbury !!! Like, this boy is so brave and self-sacrificing Iâm going to cry
Falling asleep holding hands with Hermione @ Grimmauld place
The severity of his splinching after the ministry debacle
The very real concern for his sister and Harry + Hermioneâs apparent apathy that triggers the fight between him and Harry, not some motive entirely brought about by jealousy as the movies suggest
Okay, not Ron, but the movies really didnât capture just how unable Harry and Hermione became without him. They didnât talk to each other, they didnât communicate in any way for like 95% of his absence. They were literally unable to function without him Iâm so sad.
Saving Harryâs life and, importantly, the conversation they had afterwards where Harry reassured him that his insecurities were unfounded. And the hug. Where was my hug,Yates? Where was it?
Ron once again assuming his role as the heart of the trio; making Harry laugh, keeping the spirits up, getting them to function again.
Malfoy Manor. Just. Malfoy Manor. âNO YOU CAN HAVE ME, TAKE ME!â âHERMIONE! HERMIONE!â Literally being so distressed and worried for Hermione that he OFFERED UP HIS OWN LIFE FOR HERS AND LOST THE ABILITY TO THINK RATIONALLY. CAn we just.Â
Even despite the mental anguish heâs going through, Ron still manages to come up with a solution for where Dobby should take them
Again, despite everything thatâs happening around him, Ron does a near perfect imitation of Wormtailâs voice
Disarming Bellatrix fucking Lestrange
Managing to successfully apparate for the first time ever in a very high pressure situation in order to get Hermione to safety
Taking his shoes and socks off to lay on Dobbyâs grave
Going back to Hogwarts and the reunion with the rest of his family; including Percy, which I really missed from the books
Literally like everything that happened during the battle of Hogwarts but especially:
âWeâve forgotten someone!â âWho?â âThe house elves!â Like, guys, this is such a significant moment for his character and I understand completely why Hermione chooses this moment to kiss himÂ
How wrecked he was after Fredâs death. Like, in the books Ron is actually there to witness it. He sees his brother die. I am Not okay.
Hermione having to physically restrain him because he wants to go and get revenge for Fred
Ron punching Draco in his slimy little face âAnd thatâs the second time weâve saved your life tonight you two-faced bastard!â
Offering to be the one to go to the shrieking shack ?? ALone ?? He says something like âHarry you canât go un case they see you, wait here with Hermione, and Iâll take the cloak and-â when they all know it could be a suicide mission. Iâm.
BREAKING VOLDEMORTâS SILENCING SPELL
Iâm sorry let me just re-iterate: RONALD WEASLEY BROKE A SILENCING SPELL MADE BY ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL WIZARDS TO EVER EXIST
Taking out Fenrir Greyback with Neville
Being the first to reach Harry after he defeated Voldemort, along with Hermione
Just the part where the trio go to Dumbledoreâs office because I just. Thatâs such a nice and well rounded ending Iâm going to cry
In the epilogue, practically everything about Ron is great but especially:Â âDonât worry, itâs me, Iâm famousâ
In Conclusion
I love Ron Weasley so much
The films do not do him justice

(Feel free to reblog this with anything Iâve missed!)
THE FACT THAT THIS POST STILL HAS SO MANY MOMENTS ADDED IN THE COMMENTS, ON TOP OF THOSE MENTIONED BY OP. and a handful of others that still havenât been mentioned. goddamn the movies for ruining my baby boy.
This is never not funny. Classic Ron.
A note on writing characters with PTSD
so I see a fair number of people without PTSD writing characters with PTSD, and one of my major⌠I donât want to say problems, because itâs not really a problem, so much as a something I see lacking is that people donât always get that PTSD flashbacks donât have to be someone reliving an exact memory.
In fact, PTSD flashbacks donât have to involve visualizations/linear, immersive reliving of the event at all, but people often go for the stereotypical seeing and feeling the event like youâre back there again and it is what your reality is.
When I started therapy for my PTSD, I went in thinking I didnât have ârealâ PTSD because I have no visual flashbacks. My therapist immediately pulled out a pile of material to read, and the gist of the material boiled down to that PTSD flashbacks can take other forms. They can include but are not limited to:
Implicit flashbacks, or reliving just the emotions you felt at time of trauma, which might just seem like unusually strong emotions for the situation youâre in or unconnected to the situation emotions. Or, you may try to explain it as a reaction to something in your current environment and not a response to a trauma related trigger. These are super confusing and stressful for both the survivor and those around them.
Body memories, where you feel sensations related to the event without visualizations or other more stereotypical flashback symptoms. For example, phantom hands touching you.
Auditory flashbacks, which can distort what a trigger sound like a door slamming or a certain phrase actually means in the present. For example, if someone says a trigger phrase, you might hear what is said in your memories of the trauma and not what they actually say
Iâd really love to see some more diverse representations of flashbacks out there for people writing characters with PTSD is the point of the post. Personal, I wish I wouldâve been told about this years ago, because I felt like a âbadâ or invalid survivor for being what I perceived as atypical.
Maybe people do know about this, but I certainly donât see much about it.
jamie is so adorable.
Ron and Hermione, at Shell Cottage. Itâs all gonna be okay.

On fatherhood and raising a family: âI never watch any of the movies Iâve done. I never take any of it that seriously, but without question the thing Iâm proudest of achieving is my son. Iâm obsessed. Every moment I spend with him I fall a little bit more for him. Itâs almost kind of painful, that thing when you are falling into something so unconditionally.â Jamie bell for ES Magazine August 2017
