currently making a new book cover and i am hand lettering the title, using blocky 3D letters, and i do not think i am doing a very good job.

it occurs to me that the thing i was very absolute worst at in all of primary school was making pretty titles for my projects and it's like.... nine year old sylvia would find this experience very relatable (we are both trying So Hard) but she would also be suuuuper perplexed, like how did we end up here? and given we are here, why are we not better at it?

very important complaint time.

so there is the lovely moon photo with the aurora and i have seen it on both the bbc and the abc and both of them referred to its orientation in ways that make me want to SCREAM.

the abc said "the perspective on the photo is flipped from our point of view" which I MEAN YOURE NOT WRONG in that it is a photo of earth? and it is looking back at us as we look out at it??? but absolutely not what they meant.

the bbc (specifically a science reporter) just said "our planet appears upside down"

and the thing is, NASA KNEW WHAT THEY WERE ABOUT. this is a perfectly correct orientation from which to view the earth and that is important! like if it had said "upside down from the way we are accustomed to" FINE! but it is not.

i need to know that they know that north isn't actually UP, and it is merely a convention. the planet has no right way up and NASA SAID THAT's important when they sent us the picture.

okay im done but im still seething dont worry.

i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.
