Spot the difference?

I heard the rumour that there was a change of the cover illustration of the sixth volume when I started reading the manga.

(Once again someone might have brought this up before. I am only discovering it now.)

Of the first picture Jun Yodaka is grinning at Tsukasa Akeuraji. Evilly. Taunting him, as if telling him that the “game is on!” between their students.

Of the second, the one that we all know, Jun’s smile is enigmatic. You don’t know exactly what he’s thinking about. Although you have an idea why. It is like “I am this mysterious freak of a coach and you’re not even better than me. Yes you are talented but you don’t do what I say. So, I am going to be the thorn on your side.”

And now I found the answer and the reason. Thank the universe for these Korean Medalist fans.

I shivered when I saw the rejected illustration. What a beautiful freak this Jun Yodaka truly is, making Tsukasa lose his head.

Yodaka is, I suppose, the most vicious ideology I can imagine—the ultimate manifestation of the "I must drive you this way" mentality. I find it painful and frightening because I know I can never be healthy if I continue doing this. Even so, I haven't yet come up with the correct answer to refute Yodaka. For instance, forcing someone to "do it with the intention of dying" is violence, isn't it? However, doing it with that mindset gives me immense strength. I know that I can chase my dreams as far as I can. So, I hesitate to stop a child who voluntarily drives themselves like me, wondering if I am blocking their potential out of my own selfishness—my desire not to become a villain. I think an adult who can keep going without forcing them to do it with the intention of dying, like Yodaka, possesses quite a bit of courage.

I left it to Tsukasa to consider whether that hesitation could be resolved peacefully. Whether we can affirm a child who is striving with all their might toward their dream, yet still protect them safely; whether we can stop them if push comes to shove; and whether we can guide them on the proper way to use their energy. I wanted to think about these things together through Tsukasa.

The things that Tsukasa has accomplished as a Jun Yodaka stan are pretty impressive, if i'm being honest.

So we all know that Tsukasa is Jun’s biggest fan, right? (I would argue that Jun is more like Tsukasa’s “unattainable love”).

Tsukasa made it a known fact that he idolised Jun so much to the point where his whole career is influenced by Jun. For Tsukasa, Jun Yodaka is his belief, his religion. Jun is just so captivating that the mere presence of him shocks Tsukasa to his core.

Like, homeboy watched a single cut of Jun Yodaka performing and was so infatuated, so in love, that he started his whole skating career for real. Not to mention that Tsukasa always referred to Jun as “the man who changed my life”. Plus, he always flashes back to the first time he saw Jun, like?? That man is whipped.

Even though it’s an undeniable fact that Tsukasa is an amazing skater, he never really recognised himself as one. Because no one really tells him that he’s talented, that he will be someone someday since he started late. He’s really insecure.

That’s why his relationship with Jun is so good. Jun doesn’t hesitate to tell him that he’s memorable, that he’s talented and exceptional. Jun also encourages him to get back to the ice shows and start performing again. Imagine getting the validation you have always wanted, but it’s too late; you’re already retired, but it comes from the person who you look up to the most.

He can’t even believe it, and the poor guy is holding back his tears. Getting remembered, recognised and validated by your idol has got to be one of the biggest flexes, fr.

He also got a video call with his (crush) idol while he was half naked (from a third party but we don’t talk abt that).

(When i read that page i was like “wow, that was super homoerotic tbh…”)

He even got to meet his idol privately AND skate with him. Then his idol proceeded to give him compliments and praises (angel words frfr) and challenged him with a bet. Whatever Tsukasa is doing with his life, he’s doing it correctly.

And what’s with this page?? the snow flake, the position and all?? Its just so beautiful peak romance omg.
