i've been playing with the idea of a genshin x toh au (bc aus like that are fun and also i like coming up with aus) and i was trying to think of which characters would be into which magic type/which covens they would be in
and when i got to venti i was like. he would simply not be in a coven. he would actively be interested in taking that shit down this is venti we're talking about. he would hate everything about the coven system
I think Raine would suit Venti better, because even though he preaches freedom he is still trapped in his role as a god(and under the rule of the heavenly principals). The covens could be the 7 elements or smth to help it fit more.
mmm that is true. Venti is still trapped in his role as a god/under the heavenly principles despite his ideal being freedom, so he would fit well into Raine's role. I was wanting the coven heads to be the archons anyways (though Nahida, being just a little radish, probably won't be a coven head. if I go through with the archons being the coven heads, Rukkhadevata will be one instead of Nahida), Venti was the main one giving me issues about coven status because even if he didn't know the real reason behind the sigils, he would definitely still hate the coven system
Hear me out... Rerir and Tholindis as the Wittebane brothers. The moon portal is what seperates Earth from Tyvet, and Tholindis discovers it and goes to Tyvet. Rerir chases after her and an accident happens and she ends up dead. He vows to destroy the boiling isles and becomes the emperor. The titan is Nibelung. The Heavenly Principles are the archivists(the collector's older siblings).
Camila and Luz could be Aether and Lumine(whichever one runs and ends up in Tyvet depends on you). Paimon as King and Alice as Eda(given her affinity for trouble). Amber as willow and Nahida could be a creation of Rukkhadevata who teaches at Hexside.
Ei in a role similar to Terra Snapdragon who supports Belos. Darius and Eberwolf are Zhongli and the Tsaritsa who are working together against the big bad.
The visions could be in place of the sigils(although they are much easier to obtain than in Genshin cannon)
holy shit Rerir and Tholindis as the Wittebanes is big brained, that's such a great idea
also funnily enough, I was already thinking about Alice as Eda lol. to quote myself from the message I sent to my friend about it "we've seen in canon that alice is absolutely bonkers, so i think she would maybe be up for doing witch crimes"
Since you don't mind I have some more!
Xiao as Vee. Vee being forced to consume magic and kept in a cage until she escapes. Plus the fact Xiao can canonically shapeshift aswell.
In Eda's backstory about meeting Raine the one running the event could be Yae Miko instead of Ei. Yae with her mischievousness fits the scene well.
Scaramouche/wanderer as Amity(He doesn't need to be the love interest). He's one of the few characters to go through a redemption arc. In turn, La Signora as Boscha. Childe/Ajax as Matt Tholomule.
The Graveyard of illusionists could be dragons or the gods who disappeared/died during the archon war(Guizhong, Havria, Orobashi, Dhesret, goddess of flowers, etc)
Oh and Alice's role as Eda is further pushed by the fact Alice sustains Tyvet's borders and Eda is the one with the portal to Earth.
Staffs could be familiars that are elemental beings. As a rite of passage a young witch goes out into the wild and if they are ready an elemental being will approach and bond with them.
The magic system could work something like this:
Phlogiston is the earliest form of magic, it was extremely powerful and utilized by the dragons(titans). However it was extremely unstable leading to terrible blowback if not handled properly. No citizen of Tyvet could use this form and this is where the glyphs come into play. Overtime phlogiston mixed with Nibelung's blood forming the leylines. A much more stable and easily accessible magic. There are 7 main elements that can be mixed to create other things. Rerir comes in and makes the 'visions' and convinces everyone that this is what Nibelung intended. When you get a vision you can choose what element you want however you're stuck with that element forever. To make things easier schools start teaching basic elements and not mixing.
ooo I like that idea for the magic system + the palismen/familiars. combines the elements and toh's magic system very nicely. guess that means rerir's suckin down elemental beings instead of little wooden animals like belos lol
yae miko definitely does fit the vibe of terra in "them's the breaks, kid" more than ei would. i don't think ei would make very much for public appearances in this au anyways, so honestly a lot of terra's scenes could easily go to yae miko and have the vibe more or less kept the same i think
also i. genuinely forgot that xiao can shapeshift. my first thought for aether or lumine being luz was the other twin having the role of vee, but a canonical shapeshifter would also be a good idea...
There is a pair of siblings where one severely hurts the other... Diluc and Kaeya. Additionally Diluc WANTED to become a knight before his dad was killed and Kaeya becomes one. So with a little bit of stretching Kaeya could be Eda and Diluc as Lilith. Plus Kaeya tricks the traveler into being bait and is relatively mischievous. Both Venti and Kaeya are big into drinking too.(Raine's little whistling trick with liquids is sooo Venti coded)
After Diluc leaves the emperor's coven he could start doing his dark night thing. And instead of palisman carving being the family business it's wine/potions.
To further expand upon Scaramouche as Amity. Merging Ei and Odalia together would be a perfect fit. Ei wanting more out of Wanderer but ultimately throwing him away. Versus Odalia who tried to control Amity at every step of the way. The twins could be other puppets that look exactly like Ei.
Furina and Gus. Her entire arc is creating the illusion of Godhood and putting on a performance. But that would interfere with her being the head of a coven. She could also be the coven leader who shows up to Hexside and tries to trick them into getting sigils.
Kaeya & Diluc being Eda & Lilith is EVIL I love it. Fits with Rerir being Belos (bc of the Wittebane-Clawthorne connection & Kaeya + Rerir being Khaenri'ahn) AND with Venti being Raine (iirc they're on good terms in canon. I'm too tired to check their About [Character] voicelines right now)
Furina being Gus is also a really good idea, since I knew from the start that I wanted her associated with illusions for. Obvious reasons. I also wasn't really planning on her being a coven head anyways, especially because of the whole acting as a god thing in canon. So giving the coven head spot to Egeria instead is a good idea
Furina being Gus and Focalor being the one who comes to Hexside and that's why they trust her. She tries to trick them with face visions but Furina comes in and is like "guyssss that's not meee!!"
Also Viney, Jerbo, and Barcus could be Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. The group is tight knit plus detention/fortress of meropide.
Sucrose and/or Albedo as the dude who sells Eda her potions. The bounty hunter from the start of season 2 is Katherine. Additionally the people on the ship from the same episode could be the Crux.
Warden Wrath and Colrinde could work, but also Wriothesley would fit. Clorinde matches in personality and duty much more though.
Personality tests for what decides which path each witch learns. Similar to the theory of how characters get elements based on one trait(anemo=freedom, pyro=passion, etc)
very very cool idea for Furina as Gus
trying to figure out side characters is always painful because sometimes you have the perfect character for a role and then other times the role is taunting you because it knows you don't have any good characters for that role
Remembered I have free will and repainted the accessories of my scary sweet 1600 Draculura cuz I didn't like them
Og for reference:
An amazing concept entered my head earlier today:
Bloodmary but it's like an AA meeting. It's like the normal set up but in the background there's a banner that says "fucked over by society" and everyone just shares all the ways they were doomed.
Simon kinda just sits there soaked and dripping blood. Most times he doesn't talk about what happened; but when he does it's only fragments. And even then it's constantly changing like he isn't quite sure what happened to him. He's relatively calm but occasionally he gets worked up. At first they tried to restrain him, then they tried to isolate him. Turns out after what happened he can't stand being in small places and Simon needs to see faces: disembodied voices send him into a panic. One time he got so mad he threw a chair. He quickly apologized to it and settled down.
Grace was a little nervous starting out; it had been quite a long time since he had seen or heard a living human. Most times Rocky drops him off, but a few times Adrian brought him instead -- they're quite supportive. Grace often comes sporting his quilt and a thermos of hot cocoa. He likes to avoid what happened to him in favor of talking about his kids. When he did talk about it he usually lied or mislead to make it sound not that bad. However, after a bit Grace realized everyone around him went through similar things as him and started being honest. Now he just tends to downplay it.
Simon and Grace became quick allies. Both are a bit awkward and they have this weird habit of talking at the same time. But nonetheless they seem to understand each other quite well. When Simon hears what happened to the stars with Grace he can't help but wonder if that's what the quiet rapture was. In turn Grace is given further evidence of what could've happened if he stayed on earth. They find it slightly amusing that the torturers in their lives are both called eva/ava. Unsurprisingly Grace won't let Simon touch him. Simon admits he is in desperate need of a shower.
okay but who else is there
Any character you can think of that was "fucked by society" i.e: characters whom are severely harmed directly/indirectly by the people or constructs of said society. Additionally they tend to be outside of societal norms and are punished for that. Ryland Grace is chosen to die because he has none of the expected connections to the people around him(romance). Simon because he made a mistake and was deemed a scapegoat. Some examples that come to the top of my mind are:
-Anya(mouth washing)
-tributes(hunger games)
-Entrapta(she-ra 2018v)
-Eda the owl lady(The Owl House)
-Steven Universe(Steven universe)
I was a little bloodymary brained when thinking about this so other characters didn't really pop in at the time. I hope this answered your question!
