Bitch I’m me, hundred on the wrist, I ski Art on the wall, Basqui, fuck who see
- Nicki Minaj
I really like this picture. As it describes, Nicki Minaj wants to give audience an opinion that females are powerful and not easy to get irritated. Although she used radical language, the effects brought by it attracted my concerns more.
Oh say can you see, this is the American Dream
Rihanna (via jleo-278)
I really like this quote. As it describes, the American Dream is not only invisible but also visible. Many people don’t know the reality of the American Dream, but they still choose to reach for it.
“… racism is the water in which Americans swim.”
Richael Faithful
I feel that this is important because colorblindness and racism is still a huge problem in America today. Many people try to avoid the subject and go about their life but the only way to end it is we need to confront it head on and make it less of a taboo in our culture.
I really like this quote because this one describes the current situation about the United State. This segment of lyrics is so realistic. I think I am going to use it for the quote for my paper in the future.
Black Lives Matter
我知道,
在我的周围有太多的陷阱,
在我的身边有太多的诱惑,
那灯红酒绿,
那软歌细语,
面对这一切,
我只想说,
让我活得舒服些。
I thought this scene was especially interesting because it speaks to much more than it simply looks like. The cop shooting Kendrick dead with only his fingers symbolizes the dangerous power of oppression to kill a culture and its people even without violence. Such a notion reveals the true injustice and wrong hidden in American society.
This scene is pretty revealing to me. This policeman only pretends his finger as a gun to shoot an innocent African-American person. This scene means the invisible police violence in the modern society. For example, most people who got searched by policemen on highway or country trail are African-American people, so it is necessary to protect their rights and gain the social equality for everyone, especially for those African-American people.
We been hurt, been down before
Nigga, when our pride was low
Lookin’ at the world like, “Where do we go?”
These lyrics speak a lot of truth. I feel like when so many terrible events occur, many people just feel lost and don’t know where to turn to in order to find the good in people and the good in the world.
I really like the screenshot here. Kendrick Lamar is flying from the beginning to the end of the music video. In my opinion, he may want to represent the feeling that African-American people want to express their inside desire that they want to live freely in the society instead of being restricted. Even in today, there is still some unequal phenomenon between “black and white” in the modern society. It’s pretty hard to handle with, is it?
This scene was really important in the movie because they are stereotyping African American people and they are treating Chris like an object and not a person. Many weird things happen during this part of the movie like the auctioning of Christ and him being asked about the African American experience in America.
This screenshot is a quite important segment in the whole movie. Chris seems like being “introduced” to friends and neighbors of Dean Armitage, who is the father of Rose Armitage. However, he looks like an animal or a piece of merchandise that could be easily purchased by anyone. I think this screenshot may reflect the real social situation that African-American people are still facing in the modern society.
Once again, these images represent an act of solidarity. They suggest that anyone could be represented as either respectable and innocent or violent and criminal—depending on the staging of the photograph.
