when you’re watching a movie and u recognize one of the actors in it from somewhere but u haven’t watched any of the movies or shows listed on their imdb

every now and then I see a “make theatre more accessible” post and the sentiment is right but the poster inevitably treats “broadway tickets should be cheaper and shows should be filmed” as, like, the be-all and end-all of accessibility…

like surely the best way to make theatre more accessible is to support local theatres and the art scene, petition for more governmental support and funding for the arts, fight for change in how licensing companies operate so newer shows are licensed sooner and shows in general are cheaper so companies are more likely to put them on, encourage more work from new playwrights and new companies so the overall talent pool is boostered, etc…

like I get that “theatre is more than broadway” is an elitist viewpoint for some people, but god there’s so much more to the issue of accessibility than broadway tickets being cheaper and shows being filmed more often
