By now, Angel was pretty sure his confusion wasn't solely from his inebriated state. Blown-out fuchsia eyes narrowed slightly. ❛❛ So y' ain't gonna explain shit t' me, huh? Typical. ❜❜

With a roll of his eyes, he unfolded himself unsteadily to his feet. Despite the mild irritation, he didn't like to hear that Alastor was being tormented like that. The fact that he'd missed out on whatever little publicity stunt this had been was concerning in and of itself ; Angel was wondering more and more how much time he'd lost.

❛❛ Wish I could tell ya what's been happening with me, but I've got no fuckin' idea, ❜❜ he muttered as he crossed to the drink cart and plopped a few large square ice cubes into a glass and poured Vox's fancy ass Sloth-sourced water in. Angel rummaged around until he found a straw, and then crossed back over to Alastor.

Kneeling once again, he held the straw to Alastor's lips so he could drink. As he did so, taking in those familiar features, Angel felt something guiltily twist in his chest — as much as it sucked that Alastor was here, it was also so nice to see someone from the hotel. To not be alone in this. The relief mixed with shame ; that really made him a selfish asshole, didn't it?

❛❛ I ain't seen Val, so I figure Vox is busy too. I could probably go find y' somethin' t' eat. ❜❜ His own stomach felt hollowed out, though he had no appetite. ❛❛ I dunno the last time I ate either, come t' think of it. ❜❜

Alastor leaned forward as far as the cable restraints would allow and wrapped his lips around the straw. He drank steadily as Angel continued talking, showing no sign that he'd heard a word of it. One sip turned into another, and then another, until the glass was completely empty and he was left drawing up the last few droplets with a quiet slurp.

Only then did he pull back.

A small sigh escaped him. The water had done wonders. His throat no longer felt raw and clogged, and speaking didn't scrape quite so unpleasantly against it. "Much better." A faint buzz crackled from somewhere within his radio.

"Something to eat would be lovely as well."

Normally, Alastor was particular about what he ate. He had standards. Preferences. Strong opinions on how meats should be seasoned and cooked. But the hollow ache twisting through his stomach had long since beaten any pickiness out of him. At this point, he would gladly accept almost anything if it meant getting rid of the persistent gnawing in his gut.

"They've been using you for your fame," he continued. "Most of Pride adores you. You bring in crowds simply by showing up." His ears flicked slightly. "So, they've had you promoting Vox's little campaign. Criticizing the hotel. Praising his grand scheme to infiltrate Heaven itself." Alastor's fingers raised away from the chair's arms as he rolled his eyes. "The man's need for validation is almost painful to watch."

There was a pause before a grin tugged at the corner of his mouth.

"Frankly, he's probably done you a favor by ensuring you don't remember any of it."

Angel knelt before the chair, hands on the arms, trying to parse Alastor’s non-answer. He shook his head slightly as though to clear it. It felt like some cloudy liquid sloshed inside it, slowing his thoughts.

❛❛ I still don’t understand. Are the Vees holdin’ y’ captive? Ya’ stronger than Vox, aintcha? Can’tcha just . . . y’ know, break free a’ this? ❜❜ He gestured vaguely to the wires keeping Alastor bound.

Still, he resisted his instinct to try to free Alastor, as per his instructions. Alastor was right, the last thing Angel wanted was to garner any more attention from Vox. His attention piqued at the last statement.

❛❛ Past week? ❜❜ he echoed vaguely. If Alastor had been here a week, how long had he been here —? ❛❛ Oh shit! ❜❜ Angel's focus snapped back as his mind caught up with what Alastor asked for. ❛❛ Yeah, y’ need water? Or somethin’ stronger, I won’t judge. Jesus, have y’ even eaten? ❜❜

"Certain things require patience, my dear." It was not an answer, but it was going to be the only one Angel is getting. It wasn't as if he expected him to go blabbing on his own volition, but he was susceptible to Vox's hypnotism and he simply couldn't take any chances. "The circumstances," he said carefully, "are somewhat more nuanced than a simple captivity situation." But enough about that.

"Some ice water would be lovely. And no, I haven't eaten. I've either been dragged around to witness Vox's little performances or forced to participate in whatever tiresome ego-stroking activity entertained him that hour. Past that, I've been stowed away in a utility closet." A pause but his smile never even wavered. "It's surprisingly spacious."

Sinners didn't die from starvation. Or dehydration. Hunger simply hollowed them out and thirst scraped the throat raw without ever fully shutting the body down. He was exhausted and uncomfortable, and his entire body ached form being bound in the same position for as long as he has, but no one would notice it in Alastor. Every inch of him remained curated from his posture to his smile.

A quick, hour long sketch session where I let myself play with color and value without worrying too much about details. It was fun little exercise that led to a cute emotive piece :)

Ever since that night at the motel, everything had been one big haze of spiraling red eyes and neon lights filtered through toxic red smoke.

Angel couldn't remember how he'd gotten to V Tower in the first place, or how long it had been — in some ways, it felt like he'd never left. Like the hotel had been the dream, and now he was awake again to the nightmare of reality. His sobriety had been shattered, and he couldn't remember if that had been his choice or someone else's. Huge chunks of time were missing, though whether that was from the drugs or Vox's hypnosis, he couldn't say.

So when he found himself opening the door to the penthouse and discovered Alastor, of all people, laying on the floor, for a moment Angel wasn't sure whether or not he was dreaming. He just stood there staring for a long minute. Suddenly, it was like someone poured a bucket of cold water over his head and the world slid back into place.

❛❛ Al? The fuck you doin' here? ❜❜ Angel rushed over to the chair and hauled it upright, eyes scanning over the other like he expected him to be hurt, or drugged, or in some similar state to that which Angel was in. With Alastor, it was hard to tell ; that smile never faltered.

Alastor rocked slightly with the momentum of his weight, letting out a soft, relieved sigh as he stabilized. "Much appreciated, my good man," he murmured, shaking his hair free while his monocle accidentally slipped from its perch to dangle against his chest. "To be honest, most of it is rather frivolous, hardly worth a second thought." He gave a faint, wry smile, fully aware that Vox had likely plastered his face everywhere in that petty humiliation campaign; with Angel's constant fixation on his phone, the revelation would reach him soon enough. "But I do encourage you to remain patient and observe how this unfolds."

This was all part of the plan, of course, and he could already sense the cracks forming between the Vees as Vox's ego swelled with each passing moment. “And I strongly advise against untying me, no matter how tempting it may be. Doing so would surely alert Vox, and I'm certain neither of us wants him barging in, now do we?" He'd seen more than he'd ever wanted to of that man. "Would you mind one more small favor? They've barely attended to my needs this past week, and I was just trying to grab a drink before these wheels caught."

The penthouse lights glowed, pinks and blues bleeding together over velvet furniture and glossy marble floors. One entire wall of windows overlooked Hell's skyline, the city flickering below.

And directly in the middle of all that luxury lay Alastor still tied to that office chair.

The thing had tipped over nearly an hour ago after one particularly ambitious attempt to scoot himself toward the bar cart. Humiliating. Deeply humiliating. His smile remained stitched firmly into place anyway. Ordinarily, this would've been nothing. Tentacled shadows would've curled beneath him, lifting him right back up, but Vox's contract had clipped him neatly down to the bone.

Eventually came the sharp clack clack of heels. Alastor's grin widened instantly before his head twisted around unnaturally, neck bending with a series of snapping bones until he could peer upside down toward the penthouse entrance. There stood Angel Dust, one hand still resting on the doorway.

"Angel Dust, you're a sight for sore eyes!" There was a faint, staticky cheering from his internal radio. "Do you mind lending me a hand?"

A whirring static hiss from his internal radio filled the room for a brief moment, slicing through the haze of his already restless sleep as the fluorescent lighting of his storage closet flicked on without warning. Yet, that was the only crack in his composure Alastor would allow Vox to see. He blinked deliberately, each heavy, dry lash struggling to focus, before lifting his gaze with an almost mischievous brightness. "Morning already?" he asked, his voice carrying a casual lilt that belied the monotony and strain of his confinement. The days of his captivity blurred together; either he was being wheeled through this orchestrated humiliation ritual or left alone with nothing but a barren wall to stare at. "I'll take a cup of coffee, just a splash of milk," he added smoothly, the faintest edge of wit in his tone, "won't you join me?"

"You've come to check on me? Perish the thought." Still, the chaotic mess of blood within his bedroom was undeniable as he stitched his arm with the same neon green thread as his chest. Vox's little shark had almost severed his arm entirely, flesh dangling from bone, yet he managed to patch himself up alone. It was a brutal injury, but with time, it should heal. Although with the state of it, he had wondered if the beasts' teeth were made from angelic steel. "I'm quite alright. All I need is some rest."
