Taking a break from our usual heavy fare that’s offered up for your listening pleasure on this blog, we offer you up the latest fare from Rochester post rock quintet, Alberto Alaska. This past weekend, they released their new three song EP, True North. Recorded at SUNY Fredonia, the band presents the listener with three songs that craft a delicious blend of vocals and instrumentalism. Vocalist Mike Cardinale’s voice complements the guitar and drum work perfectly, making sure that all three get their moment in the spotlight. The standout track on the EP, not there’s all that many to choose from, because, after all, less is more, would have to be the second track, Charlotte. The track slowly builds and builds until around 2:15 where Cardinale’s voice hits a climax and is quickly followed by some guitar work that is far more crunchy than the previous two and half minutes. From there on out, the song rides a mini roller coaster of sound until it slowly fades away in the last twenty seconds.  No matter your musical tastes, this is an EP that is definitely worth giving a spin. With a playing time of just under twelve minutes, it’s certainly a quick listen but I think you’ll find yourself hitting repeat a couple times because this is an EP that will grow on you and has the potential to slowly make its’ way into regular play on any playlist.
