The worm…

Messing around with Procreate’s layer assist, I ended up painting a Bg3 inspired frame. I’ve been meaning to make it a series with the main characters but I’m quite the slow painter… Plus, even the brainstorming phase hasn’t gotten me anywhere 😭😅 I finished this piece quite a while too, so here it is featuring my lovely Tav Sussuri.

[Blog] Work in Progress #01 : Throwing my thoughts into the void

(And maybe a void surfer will come along the way)

I had always wanted to start writing a blog recording my illustration progress so here it is. This blog series is, in truth, an outlet for me to fix that wanting-to-post-something bug that hits me some days. The need to post something, to keep up with with the algorithm and all that… I find it difficult. And I’m sure there are posts, blogs and tiktoks talking about the negative impact that social media has affected both artists and art viewer. That’s a topic I don’t need to write pages on here.

And it’s not just because of that bug i mentioned earlier that I’m writing this; I also miss writing and thinking about the art progress.

University was difficult for me but one of the few things I miss the most about it was the studio. Having peers looking over andmaking art together, discussing point of references while criticing art… These I find something that’s hard to replicate online. To make things hard on myself, I am not a talkative person online. The fandom space now seems to be congregating on discord, an app I have not used in years.

So I write here, throwing my thoughts into the endless abyss to satisfy my inner self (making new connections is a plus).

Here’s a sneak peak of my next posting: my current progress in tranforming selected Genshin Impact flowers into illustrative wood carvings inspired from the Malay Peninsular. This little personl project of mine is a part of a bigger illustration work I’ve put down for myself.

Starting the new years with my D&D oc ❤️ it initially started as a simple sketch but inspiration started kicking in. I started fully focusing on finishing this piece. My favourite part is funnily enough are the floral flames.

Verdant Scholar

Dressing up Sussuri, my Baldur’s Gate 3 tav, for fun <3 My thought process for the outfit was something akin to a city scholar in a magical school. As I thought of adding more details, the rich browns and copper colours reminded me of steampunk elements. That thought process made me think of the concept of a druid within a steampunk city.

PS: I haven’t finished painting in quite some time, so glad to finally be able to focus again. My commissions can be ordered via Ko-fi.

Finally able to kick out my art block by drawing my durge monk named Durin. As you can tell, I really like Base Durge so I just yoinked him and made him my own.

A few process pictures of Saroja and Sussuri that I finished a month ago.

Sketch to finished painting. I need to remind myself that rough sketches are equally important in the illustration process. When I was still painting using wayercolours, my sketches and final piece would be on different papers. Its different with drawing digitally since everything is on one file and I find erasing the rough lines all together to overlay paint on it helps me more than making clean line art. This was something I did for my acrylic paintings back in university.
