Mmmmm… what a beautiful day, I sure hope nothing bad happens to me.
And the crow guides you to another room, where I wait. I smile when I see you. "So that's what it takes for you to obey! I see. Excellent. Well done, Helm, you have finally properly followed my orders." I lead us both to the outside. The @evilviscount's war tent. I feel like a man leading a bear or some other sort of circus beast before a possible new buyer. I cross my arms. "Excelentísimo, here is the one you requested. All ready for audience!" I grin. I cannot help my tail from swishing. ((woops @mrknightside
The war tent is a rather large thing on the outside, but rather plain on the inside. A writing desk, where the Viscount now sits at, penning something; a silver standing mirror with a rag thrown over top; and some chests, undoubtedly with some articles of clothing within. The Viscount barely reacts to Helm's entrance, but after finishing the apparent line he was on he looks up and smiles curtly.
"Helm, or... well we can discuss that later, but i do believe that is the name you have now chosen yes?
A crimson amulet dangles from around the Viscount's neck, it slightly pings and bounces off of the Viscount's metal chestplate. He stands, beckoning that both Helm and his mercenary have a seat in front of the writing desk. Two plush velvet seats of black and gold stand before the writing desk.
"Cuervo I must say you have a good eye for soldiers, nearly as good as your ears are at listening to orders. Would you do me a favor and make sure we are undisturbed? I would very much like you here for this... discussion, however. It will become apparent as to why very soon."
He smiles again, baring his front teeth, almost like a dog. Before turning to face Helm (@mrknightside), "Refreshments? Or do the damned not enjoy human tastes?"
(It slowly, uncomfortably, takes one of the chairs and settles onto it like a tortured dog being shown a kindness for the first time. It tugs at its clothes, trying to get them to look halfway decent. It had a different name once? It only remembers being Helm. Its eyes catch on the amulet, wondering how much it could get for it.)
"I am, uh, not great at. Tasting. Sir. Sorry."
(It does preen at the praise it assumes it directed at it. It's a good soldier. It's always tried to be a good soldier. It glances over at the captain.)
@cordaxmerc
"No apologies necessary, i figured that was the case. Cuervo, (@cordaxmerc) should you like anything to fill your tastebuds? I would hope you not to be bored while I monologue at the poor creature for an hour."
The Viscount looks over at Helm again, finally putting down his quill. He grabs a bottle of Bloodhaven parwyn, pouring himself a glass of the soft golden liquid. "Wine perhaps my dear Captain?" he asks before sipping at his own goblet.
"Sweet. Utterly too sweet. But my wife loves the stuff, luckily we know a local merchant so shipping isn't as pricey as it would be under... other circumstances. It remains enveloped in darkness all the way from here to Montehano. A miracle of the modern world if you ask me, aye Helm?"
He stops for a moment, almost peering down at his own reflection, he remains silent for many seconds before continuing as if nothing happened. "Tell me Helm, about yourself, what you remember of your... true self. At least."
(It shifts awkwardly in the seat, not really caring about the wine talk. Its never seen the appeal in it. Might be different if it could taste the stuff, but alas.)
"I remember dying, but that's it. I assume I was a knight at some point? You know more than I, sir."
(It remembers being trying to reach up. It didn't fight [them]. It didn't realize what happened until after it woke up. It had just thought it tripped. Maybe [they] were trying to save it. Of course [they] weren't.)
"I see.." For a moment the Viscount almost looks disappointed. He swirls the wine in his goblet, takes a sip, before settling it down on the table. "What if I could bring forth the true events of that evening? Perhaps... reconnect to long lost souls so the story of that night can be.. revealed."
"What would you say to that?"
(It glances down at its hands, thinking. Does it get a choice? It's Helm now, isn't it? Does it matter who it used to be?)
[Of course it does. It wants revenge, doesn't it?]
"I would be interested, sir. I don't know if that's a good idea, though. I don't know how good of a soldier I was, and if it happens to help my memory, then my skill might suffer."
(It looks up at the captain, wondering if it actually gets a choice.)
The Captain leans back on the chair. ''Skill that suffers when memory floods in can simply be trained again. A dull knife can be sharpened again as long as it still has a blade to sharpen- and you, my soldier, have proven that when sharpened you are magnificent in your efficiency. If the Viscount agrees to it, then I agree to it.'' He grins at Helm. His smile is sharp and uneven and impish. Hell shines through. He is eager to see where this leads, either way. ''See, you're so good when you listen! What a prideful captain you make me, watching a soldier like you truly reach your potential is always a delight. If you recover your memories from that night, I'm sure we can put them to good use. You're already quite talented, mwehe!''
“Good, then we are all in agreement Helm, what do you say?” The Viscount smiles, baring his teeth again, before taking up a small brass bell and ringing it.
A soldier, perhaps 6’5 feet tall and nearly half as wide comes lumbering in, dressed in the coat of arms of his master, he doesn’t wear much armor aside from a couple of gauntlets and some shoulder pauldrons. “Bruno… ¿Le importaría retirar la lona?”
A low, and husky, grumble erupted from the chambers of the giant’s throat, “Sí… Señor…” before the man, if a man it truly be, began to march through the war tent. Stopping only when it reached the very back corner of the tent where the standing mirror remained covered by a filthy tarp.
The Viscount watched as the old sheet was removed from the pristine silver mirror, watching it slowly reflect the animate and inanimate alike in its long… long reaching gaze. It was peculiar, not in the way that it was not alike many other mirrors, but at its crown it showed a man, who’s mouth opened wide and terribly to reveal his teeth and tongue, almost as if he were screaming. The mirror stretched longer than any man, except of course perhaps Bruno’s 8 foot cousin, would have needed. It was beautiful decorated, and even the face of the screaming man had elegance in its shape… merely horror which lurked in its unending scream.
“¡Ah! Y, Sr. Bruno... si la situación se complica, por favor, llame a Alfons y a su... ¿hombre?” The Viscount said, looking at Bruno. Bruno nodded and went without.
“So Helm. The choice is yours. Care to see what really happened?” Asked the Viscount.
(@mrknightside mentioned)
(It stares at the mirror. It's never liked mirrors. It doesn't like seeing itself. It has, on more than one occasion, attacked its own reflection when startled, much like how animals do. It doesn't like this mirror, especially. Mirrors reflect things, right? It doesn't see any men with their mouths open in a silent scream. It gets the urge to get up and move. Adrenaline shoots through it for no particular reason besides that its body has decided it really doesn't like that mirror.)
"What am I supposed to do?" (It grits out, grabbing onto the edges of the chair it sits on to avoid bolting like a cat shown anything vaguely snake shaped. The praise from its captain is nice, at least. It's more praise than it's gotten in years.)
“You just need to wait, feel your emotions, whatever seems to pull you in a slight direction… follow it.” The Viscount’s voice becomes slow… almost rhythmic.
“If you want to start with that night you can… perhaps though start a little more pleasant. To whom did you serve?” The Viscount stares intently, but not at the mirror, but at Helm itself. Curious to see how this one fails or doesn’t fail compared to all the rest.
(It doesn't like the mirror. It doesn't like the way the Viscount is looking at it. If not for the praise it's already received, it would've already left.)
"I don't remember, I told you that."
(It feels sick. It wants to scream and cry and run. The bug is twitching in its [nowhere]. It remembers [being held down] and [drowning]. It remembers waking up. Vaguely, in the back of its mind, it remembers being in the woods.)
“Come now Helm, I know you remember something of it. You’ve got this, your captain and I know you do. Put your trust in us as we do you, you’re such a loyal hound, I merely want to show you that. My good Helm…” The Viscount eye-line does not leave Helm, only growing more and more intense as he mutters on.
But slowly, very slowly, as Helm begins to think back of that night in the woods, the mirror begins to cloud over… as if some sort of heat or coolness began to prickle at the back of the mirror. The visage becomes blurry, and suddenly, as if it were the same place, Helm could swear it heard the rustling of leaves in the background. A gentle summer’s breeze blowing a chill down its cloak. And yet it was warm, nearly like this night, but cooler due to the shade overhead.
The trees nestled so close together it was like a patchwork quilt overhead, the moon peaking through the cracks, lighting the way. Was it a full moon? It certainly felt like it. And for the first time in a long time… was there cheerfulness in the air?
Tap. Tap. Tap. Somethings looking back at your Helm, who is it that you see?
(The praise certainly helps. It's easy enough to manipulate it, surprising that nobody else has tried to do so yet.)
(It misses this place. There had been some sort of gathering that night, hadn't there? It can't see the face in front of it. It feels like a [hole burnt through a picture] whenever it tries to focus on [them]. What was [their] name? Feels like it started with a sharp sound, but maybe not. Maybe that was [it's] name.)
"I don't like this," (it croaks. It doesn't want to remember. [It needs to remember].)
"It's alright Helm, I promise." The Viscount stands, slowly, but purposefully, walking towards Helm. "You just need-"
He's cut off before his voice slowly shifts, raising from the Viscount's deep coarse tone until it sounds far more refined, polished, not nearly as sun-baked or tired as the Viscount. Younger? If indeed that were possible. Placing the voice somewhere within his more refined 20s. If the mirror were still reflecting the image of the tent Helm would have been able to see the amulet around the Viscount's neck begin to shine a red gleam. It's glow filling the backside of the tent. But the mirror refrains from showing the glint of the arcane, and instead continues to reflect the natural world as it was some centuries ago, before a figure's shape slowly begins to fill out.
"You just need a little help, darling," says a voice which sounds far sweeter than it ever was in life, the voice of Helm's liege, clear as day.
"You're doing such a good job my knight, you just need to focus on me, that's it. You've got this.." the voice trails off, is it coming from the mirror? Or is it the Viscount? Does it matter?
Before long the Viscount has strode close enough to Helm to place a hand on it's shoulder, "Everything's going to be alright Helm, I've so longed to see you. I need you Helm."
(It flinches at the touch, startled. It forces itself to relax, to not drive an elbow into the offending person. Why did it flinch? Why did it- Why is it afraid? It [wanted this]. It forces itself to relax. Unclench its hands, lower its shoulders. It's good. It's being good.)
"I missed you," (it says softly. It reaches up to pull its hood lower around its face. [They] had never liked it when it was less than perfect, didn't [they]? And it's less than perfect now. It's been good. It would do [anything].)
(Why can't it see [their] face?)
"I missed you my brave.. Helm. I know last we spoke I was... careless, I should have never spoken to you like that. I'm so glad to see you. My handsome knight."
The Viscount stand steadily behind Helm, holding his shoulder as the amulet lights the mirror, the fogginess of the figure's outline shapes and morphs with the rolling cloudiness of the mirror. It's almost like it can't fully settle on a final shape. But it has eyes... two piercing red eyes, which stare back at Helm, watching, discovering.
"You look just the way I imagined you would... did... did you think of me?" it asks.
"Always."
(It remains still. It's safe, isn't it? It wants to [kill them]. It wants to grovel. What a good dog it is, coming back to its master after so many years apart. It's good. It's... wasn't it purple last time? Maybe a magic difference, but why would that affect [spirits]? It )
(It isn't supposed to think. Dogs don't think.)
"I'm sorry."
"Now why are you sorry dearest? You are a good hound, making your way back to your master, aren't you? Sure the years have been many but you are here at last. And I am so proud of you for making it back to me... more or less in one piece." The creature shifts in the mirror, appearing to almost lean against the glass, and... for a moment is there an indent? Almost as if something is pushing against the reverse of the mirror. But glass cannot bend, surely it cannot.
The Viscount coughs violently for a moment, weakening his knees before he stands upright again, "See Helm? He has rather missed you... indeed he's told me so... *cough* and if my liege wouldn't mind me saying, he wishes to... reunite with you."
(It keeps staring at the mirror. Glass doesn't bend well. It knows that. It's broken mirrors before. That's not how a mirror works. It isn't supposed to think.)
"Does he?" (Its words are distant to its ears again, the [mutt] shoving itself into a corner of its mind. It shouldn't be here. It shouldn't have come. It had to. It shouldn't have agreed. If it broke the mirror would [they] leave?)
"He does Helm, he wishes to see you again." The Viscount says, before pointing to Cuervo (@cordaxmerc), he signals to him to go fetch something for him.
"Tis true... I have been kept from you for so long sellsword, i wish to... reunite with you, my good soldier..." The figure in the mirror glass begins to put its full weight against the mirror. As if it were struggling to get out.
"We could have a second chance Helm. You can take care of me, and I you. I need my strong warrior..."
What a fun little spectacle this has been. But he immediately responds to the Viscount's order. He chitters and caws something out. The Captain in turns signals to the outside- And two undead soldiers walk in, faces covered in cloth masks. They drag in an old man, still tied up and chained like a prisoner, the grasp on the hostage inhumanly strong. The dead know no mercy nor charity for the fragile. Cuervo nods at his soldiers, then looks at the Viscount. ''As you asked, my Lord.'' ((hiii @alchemicalromance
The fragile old man falls to the ground, his robes dirtied with the length of travel spent getting here. He stands up, dusting himself off, a knee which had been injured in childhood still aching at the ripe age of eight and seventy. His hair thinned and scalp bake from the lonely days of labor out in the deserts of Solivilla, he had hoped he may escape this fate, and yet here it was with little choice to run away from.
"Y-you asked for me m'lord de Artiaga?" The old man did not shy away from this, he brought it upon himself all those years ago, he had merely hoped he would be forgotten. Such is the stupidity of youth. And like a debtor he had run out of time.
The Viscount did not turn, he hadn't need to, he knew who stood behind him, and yet when his mouth opened to speak, he did not answer, a collection of voices did, "Ă̸͎h̸̪́h̷͍̀h̸̖̣̾ ̴̘̈́͐͜ţ̵̱̏ḧ̴̭̪́e̶̘̔ ̸͖̭̍o̵̯͝l̴̥̯̀̃ď̶̠̼̔ ̷͍͊̔͜m̸͕̱̆a̶̜͎̍n̸͕̩̚?̸͕͌ ̷̨͂C̵̦̜̾͝ô̶̲m̶̰̮͌͠e̵̜̘̋ ̷̦̄̑a̵̤̞͊ţ̵̭̇̍ ̶̣̃̏l̴̘̓a̴̢̗̔s̵̥̙̉t̴̗̉͝ͅ.̴̩̦̓͑ ̷̯͆͆I̶̮͔̿̏ ̵̎ͅh̴̔͜ǒ̷̩̰̀p̷̯͐e̵̠͂ ̴̡̽t̵̫̫͝͝h̴̟͋͠i̶͔͒s̶̘̼̈́ ̶̠̣̚t̸̙̄į̴̂́m̶̡͐̉e̷͔̟͛̇ ̷͔͝y̶̳̟̎ò̸̮ű̸̼ ̸̲̈h̵̪̚ä̸̫́v̴͈̀̓e̸͍̦͂́ ̸̥̄c̴̼̔͠o̶̞̾ḿ̶̨̻ĕ̴͖͍ ̶̣̇͝t̴̡̅̚ò̶͙̃ ̸̝̻́͆p̶̧͗ͅḁ̴͆ẏ̷͍̟̕ ̶̻̏ÿ̴̺͇̍o̷̰̿̒u̶͓͍͊ṟ̴̓͑ ̵̘̺̑d̷̹̋͝ẻ̴͚ḇ̶̛̔t̷̜̑̌s̵̜͔͂?̴̱͛"

Alfons turns to look to the undead soldiers, wondering if he ran how far his aged legs would truly get him, in truth he did not think far. And thus from one of the undead men does he take a dark mahogany box with a gold clasp. He opens it slowly, unlocking the large lock on the front, before peering in, to reveal a small broken spear point, with a drop of black ichor staining the one shining metal tip. He looks back to the Viscount, who seems to nod, even without looking forth at the old man. 'If I threw this accursed thing at the mirror I could end this all, I could end the hauntings of that poor mercenary, I could destroy the abomination, I would die. But I would die a nameless hero.'
He held the spear in his hand. Feeling the sharpness of the spear. Feeling it's weight. He could throw it that far. It would land solidly if the Viscount did not move and block the shot. In fact there was a decent chance he could shatter the mirror with the spear point. 'I'm too afraid of death,' he thought before placing the spear point on the ground.
He began to open his mouth, and from it flowed the words he and he alone did know: "Deus, o Deus omnipotens! Qui nunc in carne mortali ardès ex vulnere saeculorum praeteritorum: da nobis vocem tuam dum spirituum maximum invocamus. Liceat nobis te huic loco alligare atque nomine tuo ignoto appellare; liceat te vocare et condicionem carnis sanguinisque nostrae tibi iungere. Liceat te vocare… HARIM."
And forth sprouted an ichor as black as night, as broken and bubbling as the sea, and forth sprouted the angel of death. A creature- nay spirit as old as creation itself, bound in the flesh of man, and blood of the earth. The god which had many names binding it to it's immortal form, yet it's unknown, godly name, which in this moment bound it to flesh and blood. 'Forgive me. Forgive me and my cruel fear,' thought the Alchemist.
Before long the thing... which indeed had dawned armor in it's slow rise to form the semblance of human's stature, with pale, glowing yellow eyes, did look about the room. It's target was within sight.
The Viscount turned to Helm, now looking not at the mirror but the thing to which it knew held some sliver of importance in his goals, and spoke, not as many, but as one, "You have a choice to make Helm, I would rather hope you pick correctly."
(@mrknightside and @ichorlikeher ment)
My name is Alfons. You know my kin, or so you would know their deeds if not indeed their faces nor their true names.
I have made deals with devils so that they may never know the shame I brought upon their house. For indeed I only belong to one house now. And I have sold my soul to things which may never bring me joy, but I hope may one day prevent my kins downfall. I pray they will not know the deeds I have done. Which is why I write them here. So that you may know, and judge me as you may judge me. But so that the guilt which rots this aging heart may know some peace.
I made a deal with the Devil. And to this day I have yet to complete it. But only now knows I what indeed it is that I assigned myself away to. What extra bargain was made. What else did I sign away? I fear it is too late to correct that path. So here I am to say.
I killed a living God.
Oh shit, apologies niños, uhhh but your abuelo sees an army of mercenaries outside my hut.
Get in the sack old man. I'm tired of waiting for my mercenaries to steal you away at this point.
OI, what are you doing to this senior alchemist who may or may not be my grandfather?
Wait you're related to someone @alchemical-romance? I thought monks were celibate? Anyways-
This alchemist has something I need of him, and he will do it, or I will burn Solivilla to the ground.
If you believe monks are really celibate then there is a bridge I'd like to sell you.
Anyway, HALT, or whatever!
Or what? I have 700 men here, armed with artillery as well. You really want to defender a ultranza? ¿De verdad deseas morir antes de tiempo, Bec?
No, since I cannot teleport. But thank you for informing me the size of your forces, cabrón.
Dear childs, both of you, (@cobblers-wife) Sierra and Bec both, I need you both to be strong. I will go with you El Vizconde (@evilviscount)... but promise me you shall not harm my small home. These people have been through enough... give me until sundown to pack my things and I shall go with thee willingly.
Oh shit, apologies niños, uhhh but your abuelo sees an army of mercenaries outside my hut.

If I reblog this will some Knights please take the Holy Grail off my hands? The Demons really want me to keep it though…
What happens to the one who possesses it?
Not important. I just need to keep it… to experiment on it a little longer…
Hello grandbaby- I mean Ser knight… I am but a humble alchemist from a faraway land, I heard of something called KPS? Do you also do relic/McGuffin disposal?
Thank you kindly,
Alfons the Alchemist.
We don't usually handle relic disposal, since most of the time that requires specialized wizardry knowledge, but we do help the Arcane Council at times.
Wait a second, what do you mean by grandbaby??
Mmmm… disappointing, if you could give me a good contact that would be splendid! I am quite remote from the rest of the realms of Man… and I cannot easily trek there due to my age.
Oh! My apologies Knight, I have a tendency to call all younglings my grandbabies or my niños! I am… quite old.
Oh, I see now. Well, without much information there is little I can help you with, but perhaps @ser-william-the-third or @geminimeowdust can help you with your relic-related problem?
Let me know if there's something else I can help you with, Mr. Alchemist. I have great respect for your profession!
Oh- I should have probably said by now, my apologies niño, I found the Holy Grail. But! I shall seek after those you recommended and deal with it from here, thank you kindly knight.
Mmm not that I can think of, but perhaps if you need anything from an apothecary or alchemist’s shop you may call upon me any time!
The Holy Grail. You found. The Holy Grail.
Why yes niño. I found the Holy Grail. It was buried in a cave near my hometown of Solivilla. Why? Is that a good thing? The demons seem to think so.
It depends? To be quite honest, there's no agreement about what it's supposed to do and how it works. But it's generally assumed that one can only find it after a series of difficult trials, not just... Dig it up in a random cave.
Did you say something about demons?
Hmmm… I found this one in a cave… what demons?
Y’know I think abuelo must be going, I shouldn’t want to trouble my brave knight.
