small update on this... had a meeting with my associate director on Wednesday - which was voluntary, it's just a nice way to connect with upper management. i told her i liked the position i'm in; i like the team; the work is not terribly hard but different and busy... she said, okay, good to know.

get a call from her later that day and she asks me if i'm serious about this position and if i would stay, i said "YES OF COURSE!" so she told me to spruce up my resume and resubmit it next week bc she's going to try real hard to get me into this position permanently 😱 i'm still SHOOK, gang.

Cazador was a disappointing Act III villain for me. He looked a little too much like a poor man's Strahd for my tastes, and I wanted to play around with a design that ran in the opposite direction. Although, that being said, in this reimagining he does take a page out of Strahd's book: I wanted him to be more suave, composed, and self-assured enough to be willing to chat, like a cat that wants to play with its scampering food.

warlock astarion means making life altering decisions on fear responses where the power is nice in the moment, but the shortsighted solution to his objective - freedom from cazador - is self-imprisonment and a lifetime of misery.

astarion also doesn't get to weigh his choices as thoroughly bc while he does take the time to draft his contract to his advantage, he feels as though he's unstoppable once his power is gained. his misery entirely comes from the hollowness that his life is now bc yeah, he's free from cazador, but at what cost? his friends have totally abandoned him, and if coupled, it's a twisted sort of "love" where he treats his partner as a rival to his own ambitions, but latches himself to them bc who else does he have?? he genuinely has nothing of worth in his life and power alone isn't enough to fulfill him.

also want to add this might sound like a reflavour of ascended astarion (which... yeah i guess so lol) but the key difference is that AA will never believe his choices are wrong. there is no regret; there is no second guessing; in his mind, he is wholly, completely justified in his actions and becoming a vampire ascendant was not a price to pay for his freedom and power, but the final step.
