parental/platonic royed fic recommendations
(believe me there are a ton out there that are still on my reading list, as well as some i never bookmarked and need to find again, so this may be updated in the future)
Crash by *Sevlow: Ed and Roy get into a car crash.
Buried by *Sevlow: Al is dead. Short and heartbreaking.
Your Son by Bookwrm389: probably my personal favorite, way up there with distorted equivalency. analyzes more of ed’s need for a father figure, whether or not roy is a good candidate. ugh i just love this one so much. at a party, roy lets ed have a sip of an alcoholic beverage and things take a bad turn. a very good one-shot.
Stairway to Paradise by RainFlame: this one is multi-chapter and it’s a torture fic. it was worth the length, and the epilogue was recently published after a long hiatus. consists mostly of ed recovering.
Babysteps by SongoftheDarquePhoenix: short and sweet and has Ed actually providing the comfort. ptsd all around.
The Joy of Fatherhood by ArcanAdagio: another short one, with two quick chapters. Ed has kids and bugs Roy about them.
Eastern Command is On Fire Again by kalina16: series of one shots. never actually read all 6 of them, but i know at least the first one has a hilarious interaction.
Dailies (Ch 3) by Strix 4: I never read all these one-shots either, but i bookmarked my favorites. This chapter is another short and funny one-shot
Distorted Equivalency by Rinowa Hikura: another multi-chapter torture fic but god is this one good. and very believable. you’ll figure out the plot twist before the characters do and it just makes the revelation so heartbreaking. cannot recommend this one enough. protective roy is good but having them mutually protective is even better. doesn’t infantile ed, either, which is refreshing from these angsty types of fics
*Sevlow specializes in angst. There’s also Number Twenty-Eight and even more so its one-shot sequel, Snow (which you could arguably skip straight to and still get the same effect) for some platonic royed. I was hesitant to reading a chimera fic, but it broke my heart and stomped on it and i go back and reread snow whenever i need to cry.
