Okay, it’s not the end of all things, yet.

Each country will have about two years to adapt the articles into their own law. It’s a slow process and laws will be different in each country.

The problem is this:

Article 13 makes platforms accountable when their users upload copyrighted content and I don’t see any other option for them than using upload filters. Filters are always faulty. If you’ve been here during the nsfw purge, you know how many posts and blogs were mistakenly marked as nsfw.

This is not only about memes, fanfic, let’s plays, reaction content and gifs. It’s about news reporting as well.

Yes there will be fair use, but I’m worried the filters won’t catch up on sarcasm, educational content etc. Hasn’t worked properly since.

But those 60 year old men, who think “meme” is a search category on google (I’m not kidding), think two years will be enough to improve the filter system.

If you’re European and of age VOTE IN MAY.

Look up your country’s parliament and check who voted pro Article 13. Vote against them.

And even if you’re not European, please be aware that, in the end, it will affect all of us. This video explains pretty much everything about Article 13 and why platforms will probably force it on everyone, not only on people in Europe.

Now that Tumblr has completely fucked most people with killing their links (if you put any link, even one that directs back to a Tumblr post, it no longer shows in the search engine), it’s on YOU, the consumer, to make sure things get noticed. By that I mean, if you LIKE something and you don’t reblog it, that’s right, that’s less chance of it getting seen. When a post does poorly, the creator will eventually stop creating. This goes for gifs, icons, headers, writing, art, you name it. Creators will eventually stop. So, you LIKE something, click that little reblog button. Click the queue option. If you want to keep seeing your favorite creators, it’s up to YOU to make sure their posts actually get seen.
