eli-lily smirked, pouting her lips yet again before shrugging her shoulders, “I’m not made of stone, I’m just looking for more than plain old sex. you might satisfy me in the bedroom, or the bathroom or the car or wherever but – this way will be much more fun, trust me,” she purred, reaching over and tracing his jaw as they finally entered the next town over, pulling up her car and watching as people passed by, “I’m not in the habit of disappointing people, baby.”

“Are you implying I actually have a chance in us doing the dirty, no matter where it is?” Alec presumed it was a given depending on how the situation panned out, he wasn’t an idiot pretending what Eli had planned wouldn’t be anything close to dangerous. Humming lightly as he leaned into the touch, His gaze flickered along the different passerby, observing closely as he took off his seatbelt. “Here’s your chance to really prove it to me, beautiful. Show me a mighty good time.”

alec didn’t seem to take her threat too hard, he took it seriously, which was reassuring but his demeanour hadn’t changed with her overall and she found herself gaining a little more respect for him in doing so. her lips curved up as he spoke, a laugh quickly following as she looked back at him, “I like you,” eli purred. she was surprised to receive to receive the same sentiment, but the surprise didn’t grace her features, instead, she pursed her lips and glanced to him once more, “oh, you’re in for such a treat.”

Alec lifted an arm and rested his elbow against the sill of the window, raising both brows and giving the woman a playful smirk. “I’ve managed to do the impossible.” It was the oddest thing, really, he should feel scared. He should feel apprehensive or uneasy around Eli when she was having the opposite effect. Alec felt the adrenaline kick in, excitement for what was about to happen gush through his veins. “Don’t let me down now. I’m expecting the best day of my life here, Eli.”

she tried not to let his absent-minded movements get on her last nerve but the moment his feet rested on her dashboard, she slipped a hand into her boot and pulled out a small blade, holding it to his throat, “get the fuck off my dashboard, or I’ll make you clean it with your tongue,” she threatened, rolling up to a red light and flashing him a bright smile. “I knew you before august, alec, or at least, of you, you’re a bit of a slut,” she hummed finally pushing her knife back into it’s allocated spot and returning her attention to the road ahead, “um,” the woman breathed, before shrugging, “it’s not healthy to keep everything locked up, you carry on like that you’ll end up like that red-head kid,” she took an exit, driving into the next town over, “you have potential, we could be good friends –” her eyes glanced in his direction once again, “I’m just a girl, looking for a partner in crime.”

Alec pressed the back of his skull to the headrest, fearing that the blade would cut through flesh if he did even more than swallow. Sliding his feet from the dashboard, a piercing gaze flickering to Eli in a silent pause, he didn’t move an inch. “Can’t help taking that as a compliment. I worked hard to be considered a  slut.” The minute the knife was removed and within a safe distance, Alec rubbed at his neck momentarily and had to be thankful she didn’t choose to slice it open which would have put the entire trip to waste. “I’ve never had anyone hold a knife like that to my throat before. It’s almost an attractive kink.” However, he kept silent for the remainder of Eli’s explanation and while she wasn’t the first to point out his anger, she was the first to make a comparison to August’s cousin. Oh, he sure knew all about that. “I like you, Eli, and I don’t mean that in a ‘I just want to fuck you’ kind of way.” Though, he didn’t want that to be out of the question. “You want a partner in crime, you got one. I’m all yours.”

perhaps making friendly with dakota’s nephew wouldn’t be a bad thing, if anything was going to piss august off about eli, it was her joining the other side, after all, even if she didn’t know much about what he was doing, she had some insight. her lips turned up a little more, looking at him over the hood of her car and simply shrugging, giggling as she climbed into the drivers seat and tossed her hand bag onto the back seat. “let’s get to know each other a little, I used to work for august, I know some of his routine, I know his home,” she glanced over to him, “never say never,” the woman purred. he pulled out of her space and head for the end of town, turning down her radio so that they could talk. “you could say we’re going to do that, but the grown up version,” she glanced towards him, “you might have seen it all, but I’m gonna be really good for that pent up anger and I’m not talking about sex.”

Alec used the button along the door to continuously roll the window up and down in a distracted fashion before Eli made another shocking admission. She couldn’t really blame him when he narrowed his eyes into small slits. “I’m seriously let down you didn’t know me for a completely innocent reason other than from that fucker.” Lifting a leg and resting it along the dashboard, Alec leaned back in his seat and focused on the road ahead of them. “The grown up version. Doesn’t sound shady at all.” He was about to land himself in a whole lot of hot water, he could feel it in his balls. Alec had the chance to turn back and forget Eli’s intentions, yet...she was already crawling under his skin. “Why do you want to help me? I get August is a prick and you’re looking for some revenge, but what does that have to do with my rage?”

she never thought to pass comment on all that he had endured, she knew a little about alec, it had been her job to know everything about those who surrounded dakota, just in case anything ever happened and she had made it her business to know who was important to both sides of this war, for her own benefit – it surprised her that alec hadn’t questioned how she knew of him before he’d even introduced himself, but she didn’t think to bring it up. 

they moved out the diner and his question forced her eyes to roll, eli laughed softly, linking their arms together as she looked around, “to blow off some steam,” the woman hummed, “I’m not his biggest fan either – we both want the same target, but that’s pretty much impossible for now… doesn’t mean we can’t use our imagination.” she stopped, turning to look up at him. “I’m hoping I haven’t overestimated you, I’m usually a pretty good judge of character, so maybe you can handle this.” her fingers laced through his once again and she head towards her car, “get in, handsome.”

This isn’t the type of thing he should be doing when he was meant to be laying low and he could imagine Dakota’s disapproval after giving him the shot in becoming a Serpent, especially when he didn’t know much about Eli’s motivations. Alec wasn’t pissing off anyone just yet so maybe it wouldn’t be too bad having her company. “You’re giving off the impression that’ll eventually be possible giving the guy his comeuppance when he literally surrounds himself with the most uptight bodyguards.” Alec stopped in his tracks, giving the brunette a small smirk. “You were the first person who’s bothered not to. I’m not going to set you up for disappointment when we’re just getting started.” Eli’s previous implications should give him pause, he was clever enough to see there was something a little devious, but that still didn’t stop him from releasing her hand once they reached her car and hopping into the passenger seat. “Handle what exactly? Are we going to beat up some bullies or something?”

“I will say that’s something we have over the Deverauxs.” Diana let out a small sigh, “We’re a family. I won’t lie and say we all like each other but when it comes down to it, we’ll fight for each over and if you’re serious about this, we’ll fight for you too regardless of personal feelings.”

“The stupid fucks who work for August are easily replaceable in his eyes. He wouldn’t go out of his way for someone.” It wasn’t difficult to make such presumptions. “That’s all I want, you know? I never had it growing up and it’s why I fight so hard for Hayden.”

“great, well…” he breathed, pushing aside his plate and lifting a brow, “you’ll probably survive it so I’ll say it now, welcome to the serpents, finally.” atlas really couldn’t have sounded less enthusiastic if he tried.

Alec stooped his head, a wide grin slowly reaching his lips as the words he has been dying to hear for a long while finally came. “Aw, come on, you’re making it sound like the end of the world. Face it, Atlas...we’re family now.”

she rolled her eyes as he retorted, clearly unable to take a hint but then the moan came and her lips twitched involuntarily into a smirk – it was a pretty noise, he was a pretty boy but it didn’t convince her to give him a chance, at least not on it’s own. she pushed her food around the plate as alec seemed to dive into a confession that was probably a little heavy for two strangers, but it was definitely a step in the right direction. 

eli’s eyes drifted towards his features, his own expression giving nothing away as he spouted something that should have forced raw emotion to the surface, but he managed to keep his cool, even if hatred dripped from every word as he spoke about august. the woman turned to face him slightly, pausing for a moment before taking out her purse, leaving the notes on the table and slid out from her chair, “my name’s eli-lily,” she extended her hand, “come with me, alec…”

Exhaustion flooded Alec’s senses, fearing he revealed too much to someone he just met that very day. How was he able to spill the deepest darkest secrets with a stranger easier than he ever could with his own uncle? With his younger brother? Maybe that’s what initially drew him in towards the brunette in the first place. While he held pensive uncertainty around her, Alec felt completely comfortable in her presence as strange as it was.

Alec almost believed for a short second that he had scared her off diving so personally, but the woman continued having her surprises. Both from her words and the fact that she already knew his name. That should’ve been the biggest red flag, but he had to simply considered it was due to his less than savory reputation around a small town. “Eli-Lily,” He repeated the name, reaching out to take her hand and rise to his feet, “this is probably going to wind up being one of the stupidest decisions I make today, but I’m always full of them. Where are we going?”

Diana went silent for a moment as she thought about the question. “If it’s something you really want to do then yeah. I think you’re doing the right thing.”

“I’m not doing it just because of him, you know that right?” Alec dropped the sarcasm for once in order to speak truthfully. “I like that idea of family you all got.”

atlas didn’t look at alec as he spoke, he simply looked at the table and let out a long sigh, “okay,” he grumbled, unable to think of anything else to say. “you know you have to get your ass kicked, right?” he murmured, glancing up at the other, “I’m calling dibs.”

“Yeah,”Alec scoffed, “I know the initiation right down to the last detail, I’ve watched plenty even when you lot thought I wasn’t looking. Somehow that doesn’t really surprise me.”

“You’re the only one responsible.” Diana cocked her head to the side, “Good. Maybe people won’t plot your death behind your back then.”

“Do I look like I have any shame?” Alec rolled his eyes. “You say that like I didn’t already have people plotting my unfortunate demise.” If they were being serious, anyone would assume being Dakota’s nephew in general was bound to warrant a few death glares where the Wolves were concerned. “You think I’m doing the right thing? Finally joining up?”

“No one cares, Alec. That’s the point. No one cares if you think it’s coded in your DNA or what your excuse is.” Diana cocked her head to the side, “No. I’m saying lay low as in don’t piss people off because some of us won’t hesitate to lay your ass out.”

“As long as everyone knows I can’t be held responsible for what I say or do.” And it was the truth. Sometimes, he wasn’t in control. “When do I not piss people off, Dirty Diana? I got peeved one night stands left and right.” Alec held up his hands. “Okay, okay, fine. Laying low.”

jellybean just stared at the other, letting out a sigh as he tossed his own pizza aside, “I don’t understand why you wanted to know my thoughts on it if you don’t like hearing it, if you don’t give a shit, alec, act like it. I trust dakota and whatever he decides, I’ll go with but I think if you should’ve been given a chance, it shouldn’t be now in the middle of this whole mess, it should’ve been before.”

“And this is me giving you my thoughts on the situation while we’re on the topic.” Alec narrowed his eyes a moment and sighed. “It’s the perfect time to give me that chance, actually. I’ll have enough motivation to do what needs to be done without worrying about whether it’s the right thing or not.” He shrugged. “Dakota didn’t plan on getting thrown in jail and he probably would’ve thought I wasn’t ready before anyway.”

her eyebrow lifted as he laughed, head falling to the side momentarily before her interest peaked and she found herself suddenly a little more interested in what the man had to say. eli-lily pouted once again, a wicked curve of a smirk tugging on the corners of her mouth as she leaned back and shook her head, a wave of chocolate curls tumbling over her shoulders, “that’s the problem, don’t you think? you’re narrow minded, you think that this town is the biggest bad there is. this town is messed up, the people are – admittedly more than I thought they could be but that doesn’t mean you can handle me.” she shifted forward, pushing her fingers through his locks and tightening her grip, bringing their lips close together.

“you couldn’t handle me because you don’t know what I want, not because you’re incapable. I’m – just a doctor and you’re just a small town boy, a small town boy that has nothing to offer a girl like me so unless you can think of something incredibly interesting to grab my attention,” she purred, letting her tongue escape between her lips to trace over his own, “stop wasting my time.” her hand released it’s hold, her head falling back before she turned her attention to her meal once again.

Alec couldn’t quite place the reason behind it, but there was something incredibly intoxicating about this woman. She didn’t possess a lick of fear for backing down from his advances or getting up close and personal. Clenching his teeth together and hissing slightly as Eli’s nails scraped his skull and forced him closer, the man attempted to hide how intrigued and incredibly turned on he was right now. “And that’s how the underestimation starts. I’ve always been prepared what shit life threw in my direction when I’ve been given a fucked up hand in each deck no matter what I did.” Alec released a breathless moan, staring at the brunette in amazing wonderment. She was beautiful, interesting, impatient, different.

As Eli released her hold, Alec found himself remaining in the same spot while her words pounded his skull. “No one really knows me.” The confession flew from his lips, although, he didn’t know why he needed to prove himself to a total stranger. “I present myself as the party boy, sleeping around with anything that moves, when that’s just barely scratching the surface. The truth is, I have a lot of anger no one can ever fully understand, not even Dakota does.” Alec sat back in his chair, a hard to read expression splattering his features. “I have to live every day knowing the suit-wearing prick who killed my parents drinks high balls and struts around this place like he owns it while they’re six feet under. He’s the reason I’m forced to lie to my brother, he’s the reason families are torn apart, and he’s the reason behind why I am the way I am.” He shook his head. “I know what I want, but I can’t have it.”

“You could just start with not being a dick. And I get where you’re coming from but I don’t know if anyone else does. Flying under the radar for a while when it comes to some might do you some good.”

“That shit’s genetically coded in my DNA.” He explained quite plainly with a lifted brow. “The fuck does that imply?” Alec leaned forward in his chair, “Are you talking about my habit of sleeping around or...?”

“You’re a dick,” Diana responded with ease. “That’s what people say about you.” She sighed, “Look, you think you have this all figured out but you don’t. You’re at the bottom of the totem pole here. You and Jamie both if the rumors are true and you may be the apple of your uncle’s eye in his personal life but that’s not the case here.”

“Tell me something I don’t know.” Alec rolled his eyes, “I don’t have an expectation for special treatment because I share blood with the guy. In fact, I don’t want him or anyone else looking down at me like I’m some spoiled brat who gets what he wants handed on a silver platter. The doubt seriously pisses me off.” He released a breath, “I told Dakota and any serpent willing to listen that I’ll work my ass off for that jacket. I won’t complain about errands, I won’t flinch in case someone needs something shady done, and I’ll fight in this war. No one wants to knock August from his pedestal more than I do, Diana, and I won’t hesitate if given the killing shot.”

“What are you willing to sacrifice to get into it?” Diana asked as she leaned back in her seat. “It’s human nature to protect ourselves from pain. Plus, most of us have been through it. It’s something we can all understand. Makes us one.” At least that was how Diana saw it. “Plus, you’re going to have to take a hit for one of us eventually.” Diana shrugged, “Does it matte who told me?”

“Anything. I know the price I have to pay.” Still, he’d have a hard time explaining the cuts and bruises to a certain twelve year old. “This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve ever been in a fight, Di, just not looking forward to letting someone beat my ass. Yeah, yeah, I know, family bonds and all that.” Alec tapped on the table, “Not really. Just want to hear what people say about me.”
