the kids who are wearing robes were taking their OWLs/NEWTs.  Notice Luna’s not wearing a robe either.  Because they’re underclassmen and had free periods while the upperclassmen were taking their exams.

I think it's the originality of it all, if you do a paint job and then repeat it (whether it be the same person doing it or another person trying to do it) it kind of shows that you're either a one trick pony or a copy cat. So I think that's why they are like that BUT at the same time a lot of their challenges this season have been in the same genre.
