“Yeah, Ellery throws a good party” he nodded, looking back at him. “Then no offense but I don’t think this is the place for you” he shrugged. “Or you can get a drink and get over it and have fun”

Aleksi shrugged, “I, um, I’m better friends with Emily. I was here for her, so I’m gonna stick it out I just... I guess I was hoping to find somewhere less crowded.” he explained. “I don’t really drink though.”

“See, I am an only child. But I think it is easier when there is a bigger gap in the ages.” Mia replied, not really sure. “I have no idea. Although, I guess if things get too rowdy someone will just call the police or something.”

Aleksi nodded, “I think so too. I mean, she’s so much younger I think we kind of missed the phase where she could really be annoying. I mean, she wants to spend a lot of time with me, but I think it’s kind of sweet? She’s a good kid.” he explained. “That’s true. And it’s not like we’re completely in the middle of nowhere, so surely it can’t get too bad.”

“She definitely craves attention. She always has.” Emily replied, knowing that her sister had acted out for as long as she could remember. “You don’t need to worry about it. I will figure things out. It’s just a matter of trying to make sure that nothing too intense happens. Unfortunately, it’s a little late to do too much.”

“Well, she’ll definitely get it tonight.” Aleksi said before nodding carefully, “Okay, but still, I mean, if you need help with something, let me know?” he confirmed. “But maybe it won’t be so bad. Maybe, um, maybe you should just try to enjoy it for now. If something goes wrong we can deal with it then?”

Verity put the cup down before some other kids picked it back up and started passing it around again. “Whatever it was, I do not recommend it.” She told him with a light chuckle. “I don’t mind alcohol myself, but that thing was nasty. Besides, I did see some cans of coke earlier. Do you want me to show you?”

Aleksi nodded, “Yeah, actually that would nice.” he said. “I don’t drink but even if I did ... seems like a situation like this really isn’t the best idea to not be 100% in.” he said, casting a nervous look at the huge crowd. He certainly wanted to be able to stay on high alert with that many people around, especially if they were drunk.

Elisabeth looked at him, still feeling a bit embarrassed by the whole thing. “If you say so..” She told him, glad he seemed to be somewhat okay with it. She knitted her eyebrows together a little at his remark about being touched. “I guess that is fair..” She told him. “Again I am sorry.. I don’t know what came over me.” She excused herself again. “Oh..” She said, as his explanation sort of made sense. “I mean.. I knew I felt different, like a good different.” She told him. “But I don’t drink so that changes things.”

“It’s okay.” he repeated again, not wanting her to feel bad about his issues. “I’m just jumpy, it’s fine.” he added. At her response he bit his lip, glad she believed him but worried that she seemed a little upset. “I mean, just ... maybe don’t do anything you wouldn’t normally do? Then, I mean, if it’s good different ... maybe it doesn’t have to be a totally bad thing?”

“It’s been a while yeah, the last party you went to like this was probably one of mine. I haven’t thrown one of those in…literally forever” he said with a laugh, at least it felt like forever. “Eh, we’re old now Connor, we’re not expected to go to wild parties” he shrugged. “You’re here already so you might as well have fun”

“Your parties always were pretty awesome!” Connor said with a grin. Harmony hadn’t always approved, but Connor usually had a blast. “I guess you’re right. I’m old, I’m a dad, I’m technically a teacher... I think the party days are over. This is just a happy coincidence. I’m interested to hear that Colton guy sing though. I’ve talked to him a few times, never was much of a country fan but I guess maybe I should give it more of a shot now.”

Verity was planing on leaving as soon as the concert had finished, but she had run into some friends form college and decided to stay a little longer. Taking a sip of the cup that was given to her she made a face. “What is in this?!” She asked with a light chuckle. “It tastes horrible!”

“I think it’s spiked.” Aleksi explained, “My cousin back in Oregon gave me spiked juice one time, and it tasted like that. I really don’t like it either.” he said making a bit of a face. “I’ve been trying to figure out if anything isn’t spiked, actually. There’s a cooler of soft drinks over there, I think that might be the best bet.”

Elisabeth jumped a little at his reaction, a bit shocked at it had not been the response she’d been looking for. “Oh shit.” She said, before she put her hand before her mouth. She was not much of a swearer either. “I mean.. Sorry, I am so sorry.” She said. “I.. I have no idea what came over me, I just.. I just feel a bit different today..” She said before she took another swing of her “cranberry juice”.

“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Aleksi said quickly, “It just, um, startled me. I guess I’m kind of jumpy when I don’t expect to be touched.” he admitted, biting his lip. “I think, um, I think somebody spiked the juice. One time my older cousin gave me a drink at a party back in Oregon that was spiked cause he wanted to see my reaction and, ah, and it tasted like that.” he explained. “So, um, maybe, maybe stuff like that is a bad idea. I mean. If you’ve been drinking.”

“I guess that is how sisters are though, right? Usually different and butting heads.” Mia replied, only guessing, as she was an only child. She’d met Ellery briefly though, and parties did seem like her thing. “It does seem like it’s getting pretty bad already, but for your friend’s sake hopefully it won’t get worse.”

Aleksi shrugged, “I don’t know, really. My little sister is a lot younger then me, she’s only eight, and we get along pretty well.” he explained. “I hope so. Maybe somebody will be able to keep everything under control. Or ... maybe the concert thing will distract them?”

“I don’t know why Ellery does this kind of stuff, honestly.” Emily replied, shrugging at the boy. Her sister loved to be dramatic but this was intense even for Ellery. The worst part was though that Emily had almost expected something like this to happen. “I mean, yeah it’s pretty impressive. And if I cared about popularity or anything, than this would be great. But I don’t, so now I’m just panicked.”

“I guess maybe she likes the attention?” Aleksi said with a small shrug. He had never really been one for drawing unnecessary attention himself. “It’ll be okay. I don’t, um, I don’t do really well wih crowds. But I’ll do what I can to help, okay? Just let me know what you need. It’s your birthday. You shouldn’t have to be worried about all this.”

“I didn’t realize it would be this big of a party.” he said honestly. He supposed that he hadn’t counted on the Ellery factor. He shook his head quickly, “No, no. I just ... don’t do so well with crowds.” he added softly.

“I could kill her, I swear.”  Emily replied, letting out a soft huff. She could already imagine how much trouble that the two of them were going to be in, even though she had nothing to do with the party. “I don’t even know how she managed to get him to play, but I guess that isn’t my problem right now. I am just hoping that most people leave after the concert. People can’t cause that much trouble in just a couple of hours, right?” She replied, knowing it was a bit of wishful thinking.

Aleksi nodded, knowing he would be upset as well. “Probably not!” he said, trying to sound confident. Personally, he had a bad feeling this many people in one place would end in some kind of disaster, but he didn’t want Emily to worry. Maybe it would all work out. It was probably just his issue with crowds that was making him panicky. “At least you have a really impressive birthday party? I’m not sure anyone can top this.”

“I am hearing that from a lot of people, actually.”  Mia replied, sending the younger boy a small smile. “It seems that one of the twins invited more or less the entire population of Ashton by telling them there was going to be a musical performance, and the other one didn’t know anyone about it. I am not sure which one did what though.”

Aleksi sighed, “Ellery invited everyone, Emily wouldn’t have wanted it to be this crazy.” he explained as he looked around nervously. “I hope it doesn’t get too bad, Emily shouldn’t have to worry about all of this on her birthday.” he said. He knew that if this had happened to his party he would be completely freaking out.

“I didn’t realize so many people were going to be here.” Aleksi said, pressing his back to a wall to try to put as much space between him and the others as possible. At least with his back covered he could see the rest of the people, know if they were getting close. “I’m not the best with crowds ... I just wanted to come for Emily’s birthday.”

“There are a million people here. I didn’t realize there were going to be a million people here. There isn’t supposed to be this many people here.” Emily said, a little panicked. Her mother was really going to kill her. This was meant to be a small party, but of course Ellery had turned it into a big mess. Emily wasn’t even surprised, she was just angry. She ran a hand nervously through her newly blonde hair.

Aleksi had been shocked at how many people had shown up for the party, but it was easy to see that Emily was just as surprised. “Hey, it’s alright.” he said quickly, not wanting her to be so upset on her own birthday. “It’s, ah, it’s probably what Ellery sent out about the concert thing. Maybe it won’t be so bad though?” he said, hoping to calm her down. “I mean, a lot of people seem older. At least it’s not all just a bunch of kids, maybe adults being here will keep things calmer?”

Elisabeth had been on the dance floor for the past hours or so, consuming multiple cranberry juices, which for some reason made her feel a lot more brave than normal. She stopped and looked at the person closest to her. “I just.. I want to try something..” She said before she started to lean in to the person next to her. 

Parties weren’t exactly Aleksi’s thing. They never had been. But Emily was his friend, and he wanted to be there for her birthday. He just hadn’t expected things to be quite this insane. He had mostly hovered on the edge of the crowd, sipping slowly at something the tasted a little funny and made him wary of getting more. He had been glad to see a familiar face in Elisabeth but he hadn’t been expecting what she was about to try. He froze for a moment before quickly stepping back, his eyes wide. “Woah! I don’t, I don’t think, I mean, you’re really great but...” he didn’t have a clue what to say and his brain was too stuck in panic mode at the sudden contact to make much sense.

“It’s fine, just keep it yourself from now on” he said, definitely not wanting to hear about how much the kid loved his sister. “Yeah, I do. I’ve never seen you around” he said, but Shawn wouldn’t have noticed someone if he’d never talked to them, and now he mainly only talked to his teammates.

Aleksi nodded quickly, “I’m ah, I’m kind of new. I just transferred here from Oregon at the end of the last school year.” he explained. There hadn’t been much time to get to know anyone, and he was hoping that would change as school went back. It had been kind of lonely so far. “Are you from here, or did you just come for school?”
