“I like to think most things are. Doesn’t mean the wait is always easy.” And in some cases, the wait didn’t feel like a wait. There were plenty of things in life that felt untouchable. Kai was not waiting for anything to form between Alex and him. So, in this philosophical discussion, the heretic wasn’t even referring to their bigger picture – because there were no parallels. Everything about this was new and unexpected and it left him feeling giddy. “Changed my mind. Besides, I suddenly feel wide awake.”

“Waiting is hardly ever easy.” the Claire agreed as he took a turn. He was so close he could hardly contain his excitement, drumming his fingertips against the steering wheel as he continued to close the gap between the two of them. “Well where are we getting the ice cream? Should I park and come to you or do you want me to pick you up?”

Hearing the names of the niece and nephew he had yet to meet officially felt oddly.. comforting. “Now I know why you seemed familiar,” he admitted softly, more so as a spoken thought. “I’m, uh.. Kai’s brother.” He wasn’t entirely sure just how much light that sentence shed; where everyone was on the whole Parker Family history, but really, he didn’t care much. “I guess you could consider me estranged. Mostly by design.” His lips curled up in a kind smile, shy and trying to lighten the mood a little. “For a while there, it felt like I had forever to figure it all out.” And he should have. Everything about the world he woke up to made it seem like he had all the time in the world, only to prove him wrong in the most ironic way.

Alexander Claire raised an eyebrow at the witch, waiting for more of an explanation, and then it came. Kai’s brother. He wasn’t Luke, in addition to the different name, he knew the blonde brother vaguely, which meant the man in front of him was either an imposter ( why he would do so was lost on the Claire ) or one of the siblings he’d killed back in 94. It was odd to think about, the past, especially his own anger and resentment regarding his father’s own. None of it mattered now though, Kai was long dead, and there was no changing that, and that fact left the butterflies in his stomach turn into writhing moths. Silently he nodded along with what the Parker had to say, not sure what he could offer other than a nod. Then he mentioned that he thought he had forever, and it stung in a way that he couldn’t explain, but he knew it hurt him too. “No one could blame you.”

Aaron knew how it felt. The anger, the pain, but above all.. the helplessness. “It’ll eat you up inside either way… it’s just easier to pretend you made it out in one piece.”

“- But I didn’t.” His chest burned as his lungs felt like they were on fire. It was like he was breathing through a pinched straw and he couldn’t find any relief. “I-I didn’t and I-I d-don’t think I can pretend I did.”

He stares forward in skepticism, but also restraint. “I’m only concerned.”

“You shouldn’t waste your time worrying about me, Mr. St. John.” the vampire offered meekly. “I’m not worth it.”

“So are you, Alex,” she returned – without skipping a single beat. “You can’t forget it either.”

“I haven’t been a good person for a long time.” Alexander admitted gently. “But I appreciate the thought.”

“What a miserable little city we live in, huh?” the witch commented with a grin.

"What a strange city we live in..." Alex agreed with a smirk.

“Convenient then that you don’t have to take any responsibility. You’re welcome.”

"I got myself killed, that's on me. I didn't kill myself when I was resurrected like this, and that's on me. I'll own up to that. That burden is mine to bear, but the rest? None of that is weighing on my consience, and I'm not going to feel bad about any of it."

“It wouldn’t kill him to listen every now and then,” the Original offered with an ounce of lightheartedness, “Why can’t all the Mikaelson heirs be as agreeable as you, Alex?” His smile, softening the words.

"No, but it might kill his spirit." Alexander offered with a weak smile to his uncle. "Because they haven't forsaken the Mikaelson legacy in favor of making their own.."

Feeling out of control was one of Aaron’s personality traits. There wasn’t a damn thing he had power over in his life, except of course the way he reacted to it. It would be no different with the boy’s. “You pick someone. Doesn’t matter who.”

"How do you just do that, though? Pick someone and just -" And then it occured to him, it was something he'd done for years to his own father, and suddenly the air felt to thin, like he couldn't breathe. "I don't think I can."

The elder vampire looked the other over. “You’re a bit pale. Have you eaten?”

"No." There's a pause, and a deep breath. "I'm not hungry."

“There’s no controlling the intensity in which someone loves you… and when you can’t give them what they want? Boom. Two thousands years trapped in your own head.”

".. Guess I should be glad I'm pretty undesirable, huh?"

“Things get better,” he offered in response. “They always do, some way or another.” The young witch’s life may not have been what he had wanted it to be, or what he had always imagined it would, but he was grateful for what he did have – and he was relatively at peace with it. New Orleans had become like a home to him. Speaking of home… Hearing his name echoed like that struck him like a bolt, worry filling the boy’s lanky form. He knew his family was.. well, infamous. Especially in the city. His brother had made quite the name for himself. “You, um, know my family?” he thought to say instead; sheepishly, and swallowing the nerves as best he could. An nervous chuckle followed shortly.

"Sometimes they don't." His response wasn't full of malice or hate, just stated as a simple fact, and one he knew all too well. His life had been going well, better than he could have imagined, everything on track and then it all fell apart, and he died. Now that he was back, things were slightly better for awhile, meeting his daughter, getting to feel the butterflies of new love before it was snatched away from again and he was left lost and confused and struggling to stay a ove water for Gracie. He noticed Joey's change in demeanor, and any other time, he would have been curious. But, with fear and uncertainty hanging in the air regarding the death of the patriarch of the Gemini Coven, he wasn't all that shocked at all. "Yeah, I grew up around Will and Clary." he offered with a quick nod. "Spent a lot of time with Kai and his family."

“Well.. have you tried things you wouldn’t think of?” As sarcastic as the question could have come off, the Gemini wore a completely serious expression – giving the sentence a whole new meaning. There were always lengths that someone refused to take, and they usually stayed that way until the situation called for something more drastic. He snapped out of his thoughts quick enough to catch the others hand in his own – “Joey Parker. I might’ve just seen you around. No biggie.” The smiled he offered was shy but warm.

It wasn't often that Alexander Claire found himself stumped by something he heard, but the wisdom the man imparted on him managed to do just that. He paused for a moment, considering the words as they were with the expression painted on the other's face. "- I guess not." was his sheepishly reply, forcing himself to push it away to focus on their introductions. The first name was unfamiliar, but that last name he knew almost better than his own."Parker? Like the -" he stopped himself short, remembering not everyone was aware of the supernatural happenings on the crescent city. "- one's from Portland?"

“Cheating my way through the little things really doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried it, sure – and I’ll dabble here and there.. but sometimes you just have to be stuck in line for a few minutes to enjoy that cup of overpriced Joe.” But after abandoning said line, it was the unbearable wait to see Alex that plagued the heretic. There were no wise words to justify this new suffering, so he remained quiet on the subject; watching the lively streets for a very specific vehicle to come into view instead. It was all he could do, hanging on the edge of that street curb for each and every word the soft-spoken vampire spoke. Then, a thoughtful hum. “Is it too early for ice cream?  You’ve got me thinking sweet thoughts.”

"Some things in life are worth the wait." the Claire offered in response to the heretics insight. Even as he kept him eyes focused on the road, he couldn't stop his mind from wandering to what they'd done the other day, and what could come from today. It was enough to make the vampire's head spin, but the feeling was exhilarating, and he wouldn't have given it up for anything. The anticipation for the future, near and otherwise was more tantalizing than anything else. "Ice cream?" To say Alexander was surprised was accurate as he tries to piece things together. "But aren't you getting coffee?"
