The whole story began in 209 BC, Asford Meadow
The sun was shining over Asford Meadow, the wind was barely blowing, the humblest houses had raised their tents and flags in its light. It smelled of freshly smelted iron, wine, and, of course, horse manure. That was how Ailsa would have described the place if she was let to say what she thought, but her mother would have considered it rude to speak ill of your host, so she had kept her mouth shut all day, trying to please her family.
Squires ran from one tent to another all day, helping the lords with their armor or bringing them more wine, a boy had fallen on his stomach, getting dirty in the mud, everyone was laughing and having fun. The first day of the tournament had been violent, some fell, others got up and continued to fight, many participate, but only few managed to taste the sweet victory.
The sky was full of stars on the evening you arrived at Lord Asford's joust for his daughter's birthday. Ailsa had stepped outside for a few minutes to enjoy some fresh, cool air, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the banquet inside the buildings. The music, the dancing, and the laughter of the people were forgotten. A sudden gust of wind made her rebellious blonde locks to move. All she wanted was to be alone,at home, in her room reading a book where no one would dare to disturb her.
The cloak hung over her shoulders like a shield meant to protect her from the greedy gazes of the lords, her long blonde hair was tied back with a golden clip, sending a rebellious strand falling onto her face,
But her peace was shattered when she heard the door open. She wanted to leave , even run away , but instead she stayed when she heard Prince Baleor's gentle voice.
— "It's a quiet night," he said softly. Sometimes Ailsa could swear that this man was the embodiment of peace and quiet, always calm.
— "Indeed, it is," she replied, with a small smile on her face, her eyes were fixed on the starry sky.
She cleared her throat, trying to keep out any trace of sarcasm, she needed to act civil . Even if she didn't hate him, he was still a prince and a member of the Targaryen family, so she needed to keep that sharp tongue in check if she didn't want to get into trouble.
Ailsa feel his presence, and the sound of his footsteps as he approached her, and for the first time in her life she didn't ran, no longer made excuses, but stayed.
— I didn't know lions liked to be alone, away from music and dancing, he said in a hoarse voice as he stopped beside her, placing his hands on the old wood of the railing. It's rare to see a Lannister, especially a woman, walking alone at night, admiring the moon,
She had bitten her lip involuntarily when she felt him next to her, his body emanated a dangerous warmth, she needed all the control in the world to remain calm.
— I am no ordinary woman, she replied. I am a Lannister, and we are not afraid of the night.
— Yet you are still a woman, a young and beautiful one, and this place is full of men who have drink to much . Anyone could take advantage of you, whether you are the daughter of a powerful lord or not, he turned his head to her, looking at her with those worried eyes. She knew he was right, it was late, everyone had been drinking and she knew how men were when they set their sights on something, they took it without caring about the consequences.
— But I'm not alone, she managed to whisper as she looked away, trying to avoid the worried look in his eyes. I have you by my side, and everyone knows that no one would try to hurt anyone in the presence of Prince Baelor.
Why she had said that she didn't know, the words simply came out of her mouth before she could do anything. Silence fell between the two for a short while , until Ailsa tried to apologize.
— No need to apologize, a small smile crept across his lips. You didn't do anything wrong by saying those words, you just told the truth. I wouldn't let anyone hurt an innocent, especially a woman.
— You really are different from them, aren't you?, she asked, turning to look at him one last time before leaving.
— That's what many would say, Lady Ailsa, but what do you think ? I'm different ? , he took a step towards her , the space between them shrinking, the air was suddenly unbreathable, much too dry in contrast to the coolness of the night.
— Maybe in another day my prince, she said, taking a step back to put some distance, she dosen't want to hear gossips .
— Very well, but you should know that Iwant to know your answer , he followed her with that gentle gaze of his, and for a second she could have sworn that he had seen a spark like a flame in his eyes .
— Have a lovely evening, Lady Ailsa, he said as he watched her walk away, then turned to look up at the sky.
— Likewise, my prince, she whispered, casting one last glance and going inside.
Baelor had smiled at the moon, knowing that he would soon meet the lioness of Casterly Rock again.
