#Autism Eclipse - The Dark Side of Passing
#Autism Eclipse – The Dark Side of Passing
A Facebook post earlier got me thinking about the effort we expend in passing as non-autistic. The lengths we go to to conform. And what that costs us. (more…)

Family, Like Home, Is A Feeling
Family, Like Home, Is AÂ Feeling
Some places feel right. They’re comfortable, they support you and suit your needs. They feel like home, even if you don’t live there. There’s even an expression, to “feel at home” that expresses this emotion of being where you belong. (more…)

#Autistic Resonance – Dancing to the Same Beat
“I do not ask the wounded person how he feels, I myself become the wounded person.” ― Walt Whitman, Song of Myself Almost all my friends are autistic: this wasn’t deliberate choosing on my part. No, there’s a deeper reason. (more…)

Dancing Into The Future
Dancing Into The Future
Those of you who’ve visited my blog before will remember it as Married, With Aspergers and you might be wondering what’s happened. It’s still me writing, all the older posts are still here. But the old title no longer felt relevant to the direction my life is taking now. I identify as autistic and use identity-first language when referring to myself, so it was out with the “With Aspergers” for a…

Alexandra Leaving
I’d thought about leaving so many times. Going back through some old posts last night, even back to when I first started blogging, it was abundantly clear to me that I had been feeling depressed, lonely and trapped for years. It was something I discussed occasionally with people I trusted. Not that I had many of those. But I was always more scared by the uncertainty of the unknown than I was of…

Ten Things That Might Mean You're Autistic
Ten Things That Might Mean You’re Autistic
This post started life as a cynical attempt at clickbait. I was intending to just make a bunch of stuff up in the hope you’d come here and, er, do what exactly? Read it, I guess. Didn’t really think this one through, did I? (more…)

Giveaway A Day in April
The “Giveaway A Day” is back by popular demand!
April is Autism Acceptance and Autism Awareness month. It’s also a month that can be really hard for autistic people. So we’re hoping to making things a little less hard by creating a fun new giveaway each day.
Most giveaways will be stim toys, jewelry and items made by autistic and neurodivergent artists, but we’ve also got a few big days planned, including iPad Airs, weighted vests, premium AAC apps, and noise cancelling headphones. We’ll also be doing second-chance giveaways–one more chance to win a giveaway you entered during the preceding week. That means each giveaway you enter gives you two chances to win!Â
April 1st Giveaway - how to enter:Â
The first giveaway is easy to enter - just reblog this post to help spread the word!Â
We’ll draw 1 winner for every 100 reblogs and each winner will receive the chewable jewelry item of their choice.
Deadline to enter: 1 PM (EST) April 2ndÂ
Executive Function tip: Bookmark the master post on Stimtastic.co and check back regularly for updates. We’ll post details on each days’ giveaway, including how and where to enter, who won and what’s coming up next.Â
Please check the general rules on the master post before submitting questions. Spoons are in short supply in April! :)
***A note about deadlines: Doing a giveaway every day is a lot of work so some drawings might not happen right at the announced time. Some drawings might happen later than announced, but we will never draw a winner before the stated deadline.Â
Thank you to Half Crazy, Completely Brilliant for the wonderful graphic!
If you don’t already know about Stimtastic check it out!

Empathy Is Hard When You're Autistic
Empathy Is Hard When You’re Autistic
Everybody knows autistic people are cold and emotionless. That we’re locked away inside our minds, cut off from human contact and feeling. (more…)

Hear us, Accept Us! #AutismAcceptance2017
In a week and a half it will be Autism Acceptance Month. Yes, I say Acceptance, not Awareness. That’s important. Anybody can be aware of autism but accepting it? That takes effort. Effort that a lot of people show no willingness to make. Another year passed. More autistic kids dead, abused, at risk. Where’s the awareness of this: this is the real tragedy of autism. We’re ignored. Ignored when we…
