“hanjae-ah! come on, baby! we have to get you dressed for your first day of school!” mingi called out as he bent down to pick up some toys on the floor and toss them into the toy bin.

quiet footsteps hurried across the floor as a small child squealed, jumping onto mingi and hugging him. “daddy!” the force of his jump made mingi stagger, but when he regained his balance, he wrapped his arms around his son and a large smile fell upon his face.

“hey, bud! good morning, did you sleep alright?” his heart melted when hanjae nodded his head and his eyes glittered, “that’s good, baby. come on, let’s go get you in the shower, and then we’ll eat some breakfast, hm?” hanjae squealed, clapping his hands together.

“cereal, cereal, cereal!”

song hanjae was the 5-year-old son of song mingi. he did not have a mother; she was only 16 when she had hanjae, and didn’t want to take responsibility. so mingi took his son and had her sign her rights over, and now she pays child support; sucks to be her.

it’s one of the reasons i write though and (i hope) i’ve made that known so i understand where they’re coming from but i think i’d just apply what you said specifically to asylum but not to my other works. i mean cus not every work under my page will be as “inclusive” as some would prefer but they’re not writing for me, yk? i mean i’m not feeling some type of way about what the other anon said, i’m just glad the criticism came before i actually started writing 😭

before i respond (in no way rudely), i am a writer who is a person of color, and the biological brother would still be a person of color. mark and haechan are asian. i’m trying to make it inclusive as much as i can. i’m still in the process of getting all the info organized because i am making that transition from an oc to reader. do not worry though, i’ve recently been thinking of making reader a cousin instead, that way that would allow some room for flexibility. i understand your concern and hesitance, and i appreciate you reaching out. however, i do sense a bit of sarcasm or some off tone about your message, so forgive me if i returned the mood incorrectly. also, i did note that i was “planning” on keeping the reader as a brother. thankfully, i haven’t started rewriting it, so i can actually take your feedback at no expense to progress. because this was something i was thinking about as well, it’s just a bit more difficult with asylum than it was with shootout because 1. i wanted to keep most of the original plot that i had (or what was there), which included a relative, but to keep the post with the poll short, i didn’t add any extra information (a fault on my end) and 2. the original asylum is a story with no direction. i’ve mentioned before, i don’t plan my stories i write as i go, and therefore most of this rewrite is not planned. i read the three or so parts i had originally written and wasn’t left with much, so in a sporadic effort to just get a character poll up, i did so not even an hour after i got the urge and motivation to rewrite this story. but anyways, idk if i blabbered nonsense and if you’re actually going to read all of this, but i just wanted to explain a bit of my process because if i didn’t, i would’ve, unintentionally, sounded rude and like i can’t take criticism, which is not true at all. i just want you to know i understand where you’re coming from, and that’s why i have been spending more time thinking about how to construct the oh-so-free character, y/n, than i have actually planning bits of the plot
