edward every four pages or so: i want to kill bella swan i want to drink her blood i want to kill her i want to kill her and eat her
emmett, just happy to be here: lmao yes bitch do it!! live your truth
I hate that Rosalie dislikes Jacob for racist reasons. She should hate him because he sexually assaulted his supposed 'best friend'. She should hate him because he doesn't take 'no' for an answer. She should hate him because he leveraged his own life so that a woman who has made it clear how little she wants to kiss him would kiss him moments after he found out she was engaged. Rosalie should hate him for all the reasons Rosalie hated the men that killed her, and not because he is an Indigenous boy who was turned into a shapeshifting werewolf by the presence of her species.
a twilight origins movie would open up on a scene of edward back in the victorian era, celebrating his 17th birthday
Okay but imagine each Cullen gets a spin off movie of their life and the opening image is their last human birthday and the ending image is their first vampire birthday
Still don't understand what SM was going for with the idea that Rosalie and Edward go to medical school to 'keep Carlisle current.' Continuing medical education is a thing. Surely he's reading medical journals, he's going to conferences, he's actively practicing medicine; I don't understand how someone else going to medical school is better than that??
How is it supposed to work?? They go to class and then come home and use perfect vampire memory to just repeat verbatim what they learned that day? How is that not a tremendous waste of everyone's time. Very silly.
I think the REAL reason Edward and Rosalie went to medical school is that Edward hero worships Carlisle and wants to be like him. And Rosalie was just sick of hearing Edward talking about his 'advanced degrees in medicine" and was like "What, like it's hard?" and went herself to prove she could do it and that Edward's not special.
Rosalie and Edward are the most “human” Cullen children. I always read it more like a parent who asks their moody child to “help” them in the kitchen to get them to stop moping in their room. Carlisle was probably like alright how can I get these two angsty teens to get out of their own heads for a second
Say what you want about Smeyer but she created the entire insanity that is Twilight without AI
Which vampires Bella would be attracted (physically or emotionally) to of Edward didn't exist based on her book thoughts? Who do you think she would want a relationship with if no one had a mate?
Looks-wise, she seems to ranks Rosalie and Carlisle up there with Edward. The others are attractive but her descriptions of them tends to focus on other things (Esme's softness, Alice's grace, Emmett's muscles, Jasper's scars) rather than the just jaw-dropping WOW we get about Edward, Rosalie and Carlisle.
Personality wise, Bella seems to love Alice and Emmett.
The thing is, though, I almost think she'd find relationships with them kind of boring? That is, the fact that Edward is obsessed with her is part of the attraction? He's fighting his very basest vampire instincts not to kill her, he's putting up with incredible temptation and pain to be near her. It's literal proof of his love for her and I think that's very intoxicating and also just, like, reassuring to her.
Carlisle's not bothered by human blood anymore, either Bella's specifically or anyone's generally. There's not much danger, no real tension, no proof. He wouldn't be struggling. Emmett and Alice would just be like, "sure I'll make you a vampire or, um, maybe ask Carlisle to do it so I don't kill you" and wouldn't brood about dooming her to a vampire life and again it would loose some of that intensity and romance, that "I love you so much I can't condemn you to this!" thing.
Jasper would probably just kill her, whoops, and Esme seems firmly in "mom" territory in Bella's mind.
Rosalie? Maybe. The problem is convincing me that Rosalie would like Bella back. Fanfic writers can do it, but in canon one of the things I love most about Rosalie is that she doesn't like Bella. Universally adored main characters are annoying to me. Some people just don't vibe with others and that's okay! She is the most Edwardian in her dramatics and anti-vampire stance. But again, the thirst is not a specific problem unless you re-write it.
Outside of the Cullens, maybe a Volturi? That has danger and has the moral stakes (although they don't end up meaning anything in Breaking Dawn) AND had the Cinderella sort of fantasy of this rich, powerful, borderline royal vampire. Marcus is young and if Bella could catch his attention there's that "proof" and reassurance again, like this guy has been an empty husk for centuries but he sees something in her, wow!
And I don't mean to like, crap on Bella here. This is a romance! The whole "I am singularly special to this person" is part of the fantasy. And Bella as a character with her self-esteem and abandonment issues is extra primed for it.
Not a vampire, but there's also Jacob, of course. She finds him physically attractive, they are emotionally close. She is, what, a year or two older than him though. I think in a world with no Edward they might date but the first go-round wouldn't last too long. They're too young and don't have the unchanging vampire factor or imprinting. I think if they're both still in the La Push/Forks area and single at the same time in the future though it might work out. Imprinting is a problem but again, there's that risk and also the thought of like, "he could wait for true cosmic love but he picked ME instead."

tbh Esme was tragically underutilized in the twilight saga. like a woman who is forever frozen in the early stages of motherhood, turning the grief for her son into a fierce need to mother every person that walks into her home?? that Bella was a character who was in desperate need of a mother and Esme was right there in desperate need to always BE a mother?? and then she was literally never used unless she was mothering Edward or glued to Carlisle’s hip, despite the fact that she should have probably been more important to Bella than Carlisle ever was

My brain is stuck on "Goodbye, Jacob, my brother . . . my son" again.
Like. I mean. Look. I guess SM has these characters in her head in a way no reader really can, and she also knows what the future holds, and to her this was no doubt a very touching and emotional moment (I think she said she cried when writing it).
But to me it felt like it came out of nowhere, because there hadn't, IMO, been enough development between Edward and Jacob that 'brother' felt at all justified, let alone son. That . . .just. . . like sure Jacob imprinted on Edward's daughter (who! is! a! BABY!) and I guess this is Edward acknowledging and accepting (?) that in case he dies in the fight with the Volturi, but it just pulled me completely out of the story being like, "WHAT?!" because there has never been anything remotely resembling a father/son relationship between Edward and Jacob.
And this whole moment just fell kind of flat for me because I had read almost four full books of this series by this point and I did not buy for a second that this was actually a goodbye or that anything bad was going to happen to Bella, Edward, Jacob or Renesmee. I knew who had plot armor by now and so I couldn't help roll my eyes a little at the "goodbye, Jacob" and the baseball sized tear of it all.
I read it more as Smeyer 100% believes Renesmee and Jake will be romantically involved, despite her “he’ll be whatever she wants” speech. This was a way Edward could give his blessing to the inevitable future he and Bella wouldn’t be around for.
crying over the fact that the Cullens gathering witnesses in Breaking Dawn is basically Edward and Bella going around being like 'yeah he rocked my shit #noprotection'
