I’m gonna start posting my Ichihongo fic ideas here more often
Ok so first one I wanna bring up is an AU where Hayato is captured by Shocker and mind controlled. Yes, this is what happens to him in the manga and Shin, but what makes it happening in 71’s continuity different is the fact that he and Hongo knew each other and were good friends before Hayato became a cyborg.
Shocker has Hayato manipulate Hongo by luring him into Shocker traps and trying to trick him into thinking he can’t trust his allies (telling Hongo he’ll only bring misfortune to Tachibana and Ruriko and he should stop being around them, and that Taki will betray him like Hayase Goro did, and also that since he works for the government he probably wants to capture Hongo and dissect him. NONE OF THIS IS TRUE but again he’s manipulating Hongo.) and he will periodically show up as “Shocker Rider” to attack Hongo.
Hongo is devastated when he finds out the truth, but is determined to save Hayato when he realizes that he’s fighting Shocker’s control and realizes it’s possible to save him.
There’s a small part of Hayato that’s still trying to fight the mind control because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone, especially Hongo. He tries to use their built in mind link to warn Hongo of Shocker’s plans, but it doesn’t really work because the programming keeps suppressing it.
Unfortunately the aftermath isn’t pretty. Hayato, feeling immense guilt for what he did while mind controlled, bringing innocent people to Shocker and whatnot, he leaves the country for a while, insisting that fighting Shocker around the world is the only way he can atone. He struggles more than in canon to control his strength, too, after breaking the mind control. Before Hayato leaves, Hongo insists that he still trusts Hayato and believes he’s a good person, but Hayato says they cannot work together.
I’ll make a part 2 of this post later but I promise there’s a happy ending, and I’ll also talk more about the side cast’s roles too. Especially Taki and Tachibana.
