BTS deciding not to summit their work for the Grammys after knowing they’d most likely win next year is precisely what integrity looks like and I wish a lot of Latin artists would do the same thing.

The Grammys didn’t create that “Best Asian Music” category this year to be diverse. They did it to continue boxing non English speaking artists but especially BTS, so they won’t have to nominate them in the main categories with the rest of their peers. This was the Grammys telling BTS they’ll give them a Grammy win but under their own boxed category. We give you the scraps and you are supposed to take them. They said no.

They’ve been doing this for years under the disguise of diversity. “Best Traditional Country Album” a new category introduced after Beyoncé won in the Best Country Album category because they couldn’t stand a non white artist redefining that genre. “Best African Music” being introduced in 2024 to keep Tyla away from other pop girls. And “Best Latin Song” being introduced for this year along with Best Asian Music after Bad Bunny right fully dominated all of the charts last year. And mind you, Brazilian artists cannot even submit their work for this category because the rules say it has to be 51% in Spanish, even when Brazilians speak Portuguese but are Latin people.

It was never about diversity. It’s about boxing and categorizing these artists when global music (or more like non English music) is becoming bigger each year and this is the only way they can keep their American/British peers safe in their space.

In BTS’ latest album ARIRANG, they have a song called Alien where they describe feeling alienated by the industry duo to their xenophobic behavior. Them creating this category when they released one of the biggest albums of the year is proving them right. At the end, this was the right choice.

Great of BTS for rejecting the Grammys full on and not play into their very tokenization game.

Beautifully put. I am not Asian, or African, or Latina. I'm saltine-mayonaise-snow-cum colored or however you'd like to describe it. I'm not a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. But I am an ally to all of those groups as a fellow human being. I want folks fully welcomed to the table. I want EQUITY. If you don't understand why BTS would do what they've done, or feel that they're flip-flopping when it comes to the Grammys, please try to consider that most of us have no idea how we'd handle such blatantly racist gatekeeping. I will never experience that. We need to lift up the people we've historically oppressed and raise them to the heights they deserve. We need to SHUT UP and listen to the people that have been a part of situations like this over and over and over again. We need to believe people when they say they have been hurt. That they have been treated as less important or not good enough. Next time you wanna bitch about a minority group's decisions when you are NOT a part of that group, perhaps try let compassion guide you. And also shut up. Listen.

BTS rejecting a category that was supposedly made for them is honestly the most elegant “fuck you” imaginable. They didn’t spend years breaking barriers, changing the industry, and proving their global impact just to be placed in a separate little box. The message is clear: they don’t want a shortcut, a consolation prize, or a category created to make people feel like they’re being included. They want the same respect, the same recognition, and the same opportunities as everyone else. Scammys really need to understand that representation isn’t about creating a smaller table for artists to sit at. It’s about opening the fucking door.

I finally watched the World Cup halftime show. I love BTS. But let's be real, all the cute kids dancing and singing were the best part. Like how freaking cute were Shakira and Burna Boy with all those amazing little dancers🥹BTS did a pretty good job with the time allotted. Madonna was there! Justin Bieber sang a song that seemed a bit... strange, given the occasion. And there were Muppets! And Coldplay! There was a lot happening. Kind of a fun chaotic vibe.

The concept of thinking that someone posts their friend and bandmate on their Instagram only to feed the fans...some folks truly need to get IRL friends. I'm begging y'all to join reality. You don't have to think they're boinking. But you must accept that they are friends and coworkers and have been close for more than a decade. Ive always said they’re able to be physically close in a way that most people would find annoying and uncomfortable and it’s kind of amazing to watch because they don’t seem to notice it. They walk really close together sometimes and I’ve never seen them trip each other, except that one time Jk tripped and fell face first into the back of Tae’s neck 😜. They’re also able to eat comfortably sitting super close to each and that’s the one that always gets me because how can you enjoy your food but somehow they do.
