Valerie Gray
No pickles!
Skulker drenched in annoyance was finally free from paralyzing darts. He cracked his neck as he stared towards the direction his prey left him. He rubbed his chin, "Interesting. Change of plans, I'm going to teach the hunter how to hunt the hunted. This will be one of my greatest achievements! Not only will she defeat the ghost boy, but that meddling Vlad too. Let's see how he fair with betrayal."
He scanned his island to determine how he'd turn it into a training ground for his protégé. He had a feeling that, unlike the zoo incident that his new plan wouldn't fail.
Danny awkwardly rubs his arm, "Valerie, I'm sorry for how I treated you for the past few weeks. If you don't mind, I would like to make it up to you. Maybe, I can be in the suit in your stead while you enjoy your time off?"
She examines him harshly. She had already been blown off by the A-listers which hurts, but she wasn't going to have some geek hurt whatever feelings she had left. "What's the catch, Fenton? I'm not a sap nor able to deny how cold I was to you and your friends." Especially, Tucker. She was still hurt that he stood her up along with Kwan. She waited 2 hours before calling it quits. Imagine the humiliation she'd go through with her clique if she went alone.
Danny gives her a soft smile, "No worries, it's just me and my guilty conscience". He offers her his hand, "Deal?"
She softens up at his gesture but decides to take a leap of faith. It's not like her life could get any worse, right? She returns the smile then answers a little softly, "It's a deal, Fenton. And thanks, I guess you aren't so bad after all".
He laughs, "Same to you. Well, I better get going, Valerie. I didn't mean to hold you up. Take care!" As he made his way out of her room. "Be sure to lock the door!"
"YES DAD!" she quipped, but couldn't help her smile from reaching her ears. She thought as she drifted to sleep that the rest of the school year wouldn't be so bad after all.
Skulker stalked Valerie's movements as she worked out, went to school while catching a ghost here and there, worked out again before going to her 1st then 2nd job, and lastly ended her day with some more ghost hunting. He is amazed at how she is only running on 5 hours of sleep.
A few days later, he saw Danny and Valerie meet at Nasty Burger. He was tempted to have the two fight again, but he had been watching her for a week and figured he had assessed Valerie's skills enough. He just had to wait for her to be alone and away from the ghost brat.
Valerie couldn't believe it as she approached the Nasty Burger. Danny in the flesh was waiting for her. A part of her thought he would've forgotten or stood her up like his other friend. She's relieved that isn't the case. Danny spots her and then waves with his dorkish charm. She couldn't help, but wave back.
"Surprise. A promise is a promise." He tilts his head at her.
"I still have a few minutes before I have to clock in. Could I help you to a Mac Burger Combo for four days since that's how long you'll be in the suit?"
"I can't say no to free food, it's a deal!"
The two walk inside as she uses her employee discount to cover Danny's dinner. She wouldn't be needing it this time. She watched him devour his food, the glee was not hidden from his eyes and she couldn't help, but silently laugh at him.
"Thanks for treating me, I wasn't expecting anything in return." He looks away in embarrassment.
"It's only fair. I'm not the one that's going to be out there. Thank you again for doing this."
The two sat in a comfortable silence. Valerie looked at the time and told Danny that she was going to clock in for work. She leads him to the changing room and shows him how to put it on before bidding each other farewell.
Valerie quickly went to the dumpsters to transform herself into the Red Huntress before flying away. She didn’t look back as the establishment got smaller and smaller. She looked at her ghost tracker and it appeared that a ghost was lingering around. Fortunately, when she arrived there were no civilians, so to her luck. She could go all out without worry. She sped towards the box ghost.
"YOU'RE GOING DOWN GHOST!"
"You can't catch me!"
"Who said I was going to catch you?"
All of her weapons were locked on the box ghost signature. She pulled the trigger and pink beams followed his trail. Most of them missed except for one.
The Box Ghost yelled then went intangible as he hid I'm the ground. Waiting for Valerie to move on to the next unfortunate ghosts.
She hovered over his signature, confused about why it was still there, but he wasn’t present. She muttered, “Wait til I get my guns targeted on you. I hate it when this happens.” She taps her foot on her board debating if she wraps it up and catch some other ghosts. As she glided away, she noticed another ghost signature coming her way quickly.
Her blood ran cold as the hairs on her arms raised. She tried to move, but she couldn't, but she wouldn’t go down without a fight. She trained for 3 weeks for this. She wasn’t going to let her hard work go to waste. Her eyes glared at him as her sweaty hand was tightened to the trigger. Skulker emerges from the trees and chuckles at her attitude.
“Hunter girl, you have some fight in you, but I could smell your fear from a mile away. You should be lucky that I didn’t capture you again or worse” he smirked to himself, but chuckles, “However, I didn't come here to hunt you. I decided to teach you to hunt down prey like, Danny Phantom.”
She lowers her gun, “Wait a minute…why do you want to help me? After all, you used Phantom and I for your sick amusement! I should blast you sky-high along with that annoying Box Ghost!”
He waved his finger at her, “Tsk tsk, I thought you were smarter than that. But if I must explain. You and I share a common enemy, Danny Phantom. After watching your prowess on the battlefield, I figured you were worthy of teaching. You have a burning fire in you that can’t be diminished. With my teachings and your natural physical talents. I’m sure you would be able to take on more than just the poor excuse of the ghosts that you’ve been chasing for quite a while.”
“Even you?” She smirked, hoping to throw him off.
“Ha! Very funny hunter girl, but you wouldn’t be able to end me even if you became half or full ghost for that matter.”
She rolled her eyes, but seeing how he was being genuine for now. She hovered over close to him. Enough to shoot him at point-blank range if he decides to cross her. She cracks he knuckles as she contemplates for a moment, Her resolution shined through as she clenched her fist, “So when do we start?”
"Now."
