So Skillshare did a Member Spotlight on me! I talk about my career change to graphic design, how Skillshare and the Bay Area Video Coalition helped me through the transition, and some advice if you’re thinking about changing your career. I get REAL on how difficult and scary taking this risk was. Check it out! http://skl.sh/2LXAHiP
Thanks to everyone who came out to @thegoodcraftsf to support! Didn't have a chance to visit everyone but there were so many incredible makers there!! 😮🔥👏🏽!! So enjoyed tabling with the super-talented @seaponycouture 😍 Special thanks to bff @babytits143 for helping me out! 🙏🏽💕💖✨ I'll be back at @classiccarswest for @girlgangcraft August 12th. See you there!
Catching up on some #HOMwork with Week 18's rhyming assignment. Yes it's cheesy -- that's kinda the point and IDGAF! 😜 It means manage your expectations. I tend to be really hard on myself because I put so much pressure on my mind and body to complete a ridiculous amount of goals in a short period of time and eventually I crack because oh hey look at that I'm an aging mortal human being with lame-ass limitations. Anyway if you suffer from the same dumb brain I do, you're obvs not alone and it's probably time to book a spa day. · Assignments via @homsweethom
Some social media images and one of the menus I designed for @eats_by_e and @lanai's @kaukauhi pop-up dinner/brunch series, Hawaii: A Culinary Crossroads. This was such a fun project to work on, and I got to attend Eric & Lanai's poké edition dinner as well as their brunch in July! When you attend this series, not only do you get 5 courses of a phenomenal take on Hawaiian-style cuisine, you get a telling of the historical context of each dish! Hawaiian fare is heavily influenced by +/-100 years of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino and Portuguese (and more) immigrants' food traditions. For example, did you know that tempura was actually introduced by the Portuguese? The Japanese popularized it by adding panko. 🤯⁉️Next time these guys are in town you MUST go to one of these meals. Follow them for updates! Mahalo, Eric & Lanai! 🌺🤙🏽💕🙏🏽
New biz cards came in 😍🍍🍉🍈
So I made a thing that ended up on a thing! One of my clients at work is @CapitolCorridor (Amtrak line that runs from San Jose to Sacramento) and my studio helped them get promotional products made. I redesigned their mascot Cappy for their current media campaign and they put him on socks! If you're in the Bay Area, you may have seen my billboards, social media ads and cute commercials last summer and this spring 🌞
· Here’s my illustration, the original Cappy, and a screenshot of some of the characters from the campaign. The characters are stock art, but we got license to tailor them to the Bay Area aesthetic. 🙂 · Special thanks to designer Sarah over at @sockclub for making these adorable tootsie warmers happen, and artist Mascha Tace for their adorable art! 💖🙏🏽
From the Vincent Gargiulo National Park band photo shoot last month, photographed by @brittanyleephotography! Thanks for making us look good, bb! 🙏🏽💖😍

@vly_grrrl Me at LA Zine Fest! Met some beautiful people. Thank you @lazinefest for providing this space for makers. 📷: @ohfritzy
#HOMwork Week 19: Letter your grocery list. Did this one by hand while watching @aliwong's new Netflix special, which is👌🏽😂💖! Felt so good to be putting pen to paper after not creating anything the past couple of weeks. We all need to recharge every now and then.
Born and raised 🌴 #Homwork Week 12: Create a piece of artwork about a place that is particularly meaningful to you. @alessio_joseph@homsweethom
🌼 Who else is perpetually stressed AF? 🌼
So incredibly stoked to have my work featured in the inaugural issue of UK-based zine @grrrlizm! This beautifully designed independent publication features awesome work by femme artists, writers, poets, photographers, and more. So inspired by these strong, talented women. 🙌🏽💖🙏🏽💐✊🏽 Head over to their profile to order your very own copy! Profits from the zine will be donated to The Pankhurst Trust and Manchester Women's Aid. Just a quick catch-up of #Homwork Week 10: Letter your favorite curse word elegantly. This is about as elegant as time will allow these days. I always thought the phrase "piece of shit" was hilarious because the insult calls for not a *whole* shit, but a fraction of one. What's your favorite curse word/phrase? It was between this and "cunt" for me. Assignment via @lyssletters & @homsweethom
Catching up out of order for @homsweethom's #HOMwork lettering challenge. Week 11: Letter a personal, tiny moment of joy. My name isn't Alyssa or Alicia; it's literally Lisa with an A in front of it! 🤔 😆 Who else gets their name mispronounced on the regular?
I have some totes available at Society6! Grab one at bit.ly/AlisasTotes!
Hiiiiiii! 👋🏽 A little intro for my newer followers/fronds! My name is Alisa (pronounced A-leesa) and I'm an illustrator, graphic designer, writer and singer. I'm from the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles (check out my brand @vly_grrrl 🌞) and have been living in the SF Bay Area for the last 6 years with my partner Ryan. I have been an artist all my life, but studied creative writing and literature in college. In 2015, I saved some money and quit my communications job to study Graphic & Web Design at @bavcmedialab. After many ups and downs, I'm now a Graphic Designer at a boutique branding agency in SF with clients like Capitol Corridor and Claremont Hotel & Spa. It took a lot of hard work, perseverance, mental health breaks, another soul-crushing stint in retail, and support from loved ones, but it all paid off as now I get to do what I love for a living. No two artists' journeys are the same, so do what's right for you, and never give up on your dreams. Happy to chat if you're planning/going through a career transition (I wish I had more people to talk to when I was going through it all, so I'm here for you and I believe in you). 💖 Thank you everyone for your support!
