“Th-the saddest th-thing I can r-remember is the d-day I lost my d-doll!”  Lost Doll plucked at the petals on a daisy she had pulled from the garden, and a few of the petals were already draped across her crossed feet and decorating the floor.  She watched as the petal she just picked as it fell to the floor, “I c-can’t remember exactly w-when I l-lost her though, but I kn-know that l-losing her makes m-me really sad.”

The child perked up, fingers twisting around the very last petal on her daisy, “A-and my worst m-memory?”  Her sheathed nails dug into the skin of the petal, tearing into its white flesh; the water inside it pooled out and stained the tip of her fingers.  

“I th-think it would b-be…  well I c-can’t remember it very well, b-but I think i-it was night time?  Th-there were three people i-in a r-room with a raging fireplace..  Two of th-the people w-were really mad at the th-third one……..  I th-think the biggest p-person did something to th-the third one’s s-stomach..?  A-and then they r-ran away…..”

The petal fell to the floor, right in between the child’s feet.  Lost Doll lifted the now limbless daisy to her face, slightly shivering as tears welled up behind her button eyes.  If one was watching closely enough, they could see her head turn to the left for a moment, but it snapped back into place when she rubbed her eyes.

“Mr. Gr-gregory says it’s only a dr-dream… b-but… it d-doesn’t feel like a dr-dream, you kn-know what I mean?”

“W-well, I do like the gardens,” Katy carefully pulled a brush through her yarn hair, which was untied from its usual braid, “The f-flowers are so pr-pretty.  I really like the p-poppies, they l-look like little e-eyes!  Mr. Gr-gregory says that th-they make people sleepy,”

The girl shook her head a bit, “B-but I think he’s l-lying, I d-don’t remember ever getting sleepy around th-them!”  She set her brush down, tapping her chin, “Though, i-it is odd th-that every time I g-go to the gardens, I don’t r-remember walking b-back to my bedroom a-after sniffing them.”
