✧ Being a first generation witch doesn’t make you any less special

I sometimes come across people claiming that having witchcraft in your blood makes you more powerful. I disagree.

It can definitely give you a good head start by having access to a lot of information and being involved in the family tradition, but at the end of the day, it is all about you and the effort you put into your craft. 

✧ Witchcraft is not a competition

Stop comparing yourself to other people. We are all different and each of us has their own path. You do you.

✧ Always be skeptical

This is so important! Don’t just blindly listen anyone! Always do your own research and check in with yourself.

There is so much misinformation on the internet, especially on tiktok, so please be careful. 

✧ Always use your own intuition

If there’s one thing you take away from this post, then this should be it. Always. Use. Your. Intuition. I can’t stress enough how important it is. 

Strengthen it and learn how to rely on yourself. Know that you have access to all the answers you seek and you don’t need anyone or anything else to find them.

✧ Don’t doubt yourself

If you stop believing in yourself in the middle of doing a spell or a ritual, it’s not going to work.

Everything is all about your intention. Trust your powers and make sure your intentions are clear and strong.

✧ Avoid love spells

I could make an entire post on this. I know that it’s super tempting, but please don’t. It is so harmful.

You are creating an imbalance in the Universe and that will come for you in one way or another. If they were meant for you, you wouldn’t have to do all that.

Have some pride in yourself and know your worth!

Help!

I've been trying to find out resources on which crystals should and should not be put in SALT and all I can seem to find is stuff about salt water.

Anyone know of any good ressources ?

Using Salt

1) Salt Water

Suitable crystals may be left to soak in salt water or preferably in sea water. When we had easier access to the ocean we used to collect sea water from an outgoing wave on an incoming tide—though I am sure any ocean water would have been appropriate.  Fill a glass bowl (not metal) about half to two thirds full and submerge your crystals in the salt water for up to 24 hours.  Many leave them overnight; however you can leave them for up to a week if they need a more thorough cleansing.

2) Dry Salt

Half fill a glass bowl with sea salt or Himalayan rock salt (or cooking salt) and bury your crystals directly into the salt. Alternatively sit them on the surface.  They may be left in the salt for several hours, overnight or for days.

3) Non-Contact Salt

This is a safe method to use where the crystals could otherwise be damaged by direct contact with salt.  It is handy if you are cleansing crystals set in jewellery and/or surrounded by metal.

Half to two thirds fill a bowl with dry salt. Then half bury a smaller glass container into the salt and place your crystals directly into this. This method will take longer than direct contact methods, but the salt will still be able to draw out unwanted energies.

You may also cover or seal the crystals with pure water by pouring just enough into the smaller glass container to cover them.  This protects them from salty air exposure and prevents any corrosion or adverse effects to metals and other fittings. Additionally, keep in mind that some crystals should not be left to soak in water.

NB. These methods should be avoided where it can have an adverse effect and even change the appearance and properties of certain crystals.  Included among these are crystals that are porous, have water content, or contain metal, for example Opal, Pyrite, Lapis Lazuli and Hematite.

Thoroughly rinse your crystals in cool running water when finished to remove any remaining salt.  Dispose of this salt or salt water after use, as it will have absorbed negative and unwanted energies.

Sand for Cleansing Your Crystals

One more method you might consider is the use of sand. This is a safe alternative to burying your crystals—Safe because you are less likely to forget the location. Fill a bucket with clean beach or river sand and bury your crystals within and leave them there for about a week. Preferably use dry sand, however wet may be used, but be aware for stones affected by immersion in water. If you can, return the sand to its source location and nature will readily dissolve the removed negative energies.

Hi peeps, I’m Hailee, baby witch <3  So ik there are a lot of witches just starting out, with sooo many questions, so I’ll be posting a question everyday for experienced witches to answer, to maybe help us outtt.

Do you use a grimoire, or a Book of shadows ? If so, what do you put in it, how do you use it ?

I use a Grimoire! I used to have a Book of Shadows when I was practicing Wicca, but then I pursued Paganism after learning that Wicca wasn’t really for me.

For my Grimoire, I mainly put spells and rituals inside of it, as well as anything regarding Draconic witchcraft, Astrology, and many other things I’ve been learning at this point. I also use it as a journal from time to time since I like to look back on how I was thinking, even if it was a year or less ago!

I’m an experienced practitioner so I don’t put the basics in this Grimoire. I have older ones that have those type of tips and notes on basic Witchcraft practices and correspondences. 💜

I do like following certain prompts for the journal entries though. Like, what has witchcraft been like up to this point? What changes have you seen within yourself? What skills do you feel confident about, and what should you work on more? It’s important for me to reflect on how far I’ve come as a witch and the things that I still need to work on or want to pursue in the future!

This is just something I personally do though. It’s wonderful to hear about everyone’s experiences and techniques in their practice!  ✨

Because this Moon sign is the most inquisitive in nature, it can be a great help when it comes to magickal efforts that require data retrieval or the attainment of long over-due answers. Its energies also pack a wallop when it comes to any work involving control issues, optimism, self-confidence, and friendship, and can be a real boost to those that relate to legal matters, good luck, and prophetic dreaming.

Things to avoid as a new witch ✨

Cultural appropriation

don’t incorporate the practices of closed cultures into your craft - it’s not your place to do so; this includes “smudging,” the use of dream catchers when obtained from non-natives, engaging in practices that are exclusive to poc if you are not a poc, etc.

Stereotyping 

don’t buy into the idea that all witches are evil, female, worship the devil, are wiccan, etc.

on the same note, if you follow the wiccan ideology of the rule of three and “harm none” and all that jazz, don’t assume that everyone follows your path because, and this might be shocking to you, we don’t

Over-harvesting

refrain from using herbs that are endangered, threatened, or even sacred to some cultures, such as white sage or palo santo

there is always an alternative and an endless amount of herbs you can use in place of the popular ones you see floating around the internet

Purposely posting harmful information

before you freak out, hear me out: there is so much awful information out there, and part of me wants to believe that these people just don’t know any better but the other part of me knows that they legit believe in things like essential oils as a cure, and that vaccinations and healthcare providers are evil

don’t be that person

know that science and witchcraft can exist in the same world, and that you should not ignore medical advice in lieu of a magickal cure

Content theft 

even if you’re saving things for your own use at a later date, tumblr has this nifty feature in which you can “reblog” things rather than save them and reupload them yourself - don’t repost, reblog 

also please don’t screenshot popular posts and reupload them to places like instagram, pinterest, or facebook; rather, reblog our posts or find our instagram accounts to follow and support the original creators

it may seem utterly ridiculous, but believe it or not, content authors like myself put a ton of work into the stuff we post here - don’t think that because you reuploaded our work elsewhere that you’re “doing us a favor” and “helping to spread information” because you’re absolutely not

✨ Self Care in Witchcraft ✨

Self-care is extremely important when it comes to witchcraft and magic. It helps you heal and realize that you matter, that you need to put yourself and your health first.

One must find balance, recharge, examine self-destructive behavior and transform it into healthier behavior. This is also a part of Shadow Work that is less intensive, in my opinion.

Taking care of your energy as well as your emotional, physical and mental health are essential. This can be enhanced with magic!

So, what are the goals of self-care exactly? It’s quite simple honestly.

Healthy Mind

Healthy Body

Healthy Spirit

You need to become more skilled at identifying your needs by listening to your mind, body, and spirit. Long-term needs AND short-term needs, what you need truly at this moment.

Let’s dive into this more.

How hard can it be to truly listen to yourself? Think about those times when you’ve had difficulty sleeping, anxiety, depression, or an ongoing feeling of failure, that you’re not good enough, etc. Was it particularly difficult to understand yourself?

When it comes to taking care of yourself, think of the way you treat others. Kindness is our number one thought, correct? Therefore, you should treat yourself the same way. Support yourself like you support those around you. Love yourself the way you love others.

Don’t trying to do too much for self-care, to the point where you need something BIG to make an impact on how you feel. Small doses are better when it comes to this. Take your time to listen to yourself and do things one at a time.

So, how can Magic come into play for this?

One of magic’s main focuses is healing. Whether it be of the self, the earth, humanity and nature. When you think of this, magic and self-care can go hand-in-hand. The practice of magic seeks to establish or balance connection between an individual, the environment, or the Divine if there’s a spiritual connection made.

Magic empowers us and encourages us to grow into the best person we want to be. Self-care helps to maintain your health, heal your spirit, and maintain or optimize your emotional, mental and physical health. All of these things helps us with the general goals of self-care.

Increments are probably the best way to describe how self-care can work for us. Self-care is a complicated combination of many small acts and a shift of attitude. If you use one spell, ritual. or practices, it will not solve the issue. Instead, it will make you feel a bit better each and every time you do. To see your self-worth and see that you deserve to take the time and attention you need for yourself.

It may not make things vanish completely but it’s still extremely valuable. Cleaning up a room won’t diminish your anxiety, but it will make your space healthier and more comfortable to stay in and be around, which is important!

I say this, because many people have a tendency to say things like this:

“All you have to do is exercise and eat better! Your depression will surely vanish then!”

“Try out yoga and meditate more, you’ll be a much better person spiritually!”

“Just be happier! There’s no point in wallowing!”

This isn’t how self-care works. Spa days, retail therapy, yoga, exercising? These “solutions” are pushed often by people and the media these days. If these options aren’t available, due to a separation of class or disposable income, or if you’re seen as actively desiring these things and deny yourself for some reason. Or they assume you actually have the time or energy to do these things.

They suggest you have a gap in your life and that you’re somehow ‘not normal’ if you don’t engage in one of these activities doesn’t fill the void. You don’t have to align with the media’s view of self-care and honestly? It’s healthier if you don’t.

One of the most harmful stereotypes with self-care is when you’re told that you aren’t taking things seriously enough if you aren’t working for the benefit of someone other than yourself. It tells you that if you take a moment or two for yourself, you should feel guilty.

An example of this is a stereotype of someone lazily lounging on a sofa eating junk food and ignoring chores. It suggests that giving a few minutes to yourself between tasks is letting “everyone” down in some way. Which is a terrible way of thinking.

However, procrastination, ignoring a problem and putting something off is not self-care. It’s quite the opposite. Ignoring a problem just makes it more of a problem. Scheduling things so they don’t reach that problem status and being kind to your future self by not leaving them a mess to handle, is self-care.

🧸-> Drinking water is potent. Put intentions in your water, the food you cook and the things you wear. Surrounding yourself with positive energy + creating a space safe for you is a major message for us as January is coming to closing. I really feel like this is a time to work on ourselves, shadow work is highly appreciated and taking breaks is necessary. Recharge, clean & protect your energy and space. Shower meditations. Things are starting to become clear and you'll know more about yourself. We all are going through a death card moment, don't be scared it just means that we are leaving the old behind and letting the new settle in. There might be confusion and frustration and irritation for no reason and that's okay. Remember to stay away from unnecessary drama, do not say things you don't mean, refrain from making promises you can't keep, making a decision while you are emotional is not a wise decision. High emphasis on self care and self development. Things are in your favor as long as you believe they are.

✨Make runes by drawing on pennies in sharpie and sealing it with clear nailpolish, glaze, or hairspray

✨Make tarot cards by using playing cards

✨Make a palmistry hand by buy a cheap hand ring holder or a mannequin hand and paint it

✨When doing bath rituals, use coffee filters to place herbs in for an easy clean up

✨If you own a cat, look around and collect their whiskers! They can be used in spells and naturally shed off cats! *don’t clip or ‘trim’ your kitty’s whiskers plz!

✨Too low on energy to do kitchen witchcraft? That’s okay, before heating up a premade meal, take a look at the ingredients and see what corresponds with an intention you want to put in your meal

✨Thai takeouts usually have nice containers to store things!

✨Can’t have an open flame or maybe you’re afraid to catch things on fire? Buy fake candles and change the light bulb depending on the spell you’re doing! Or there are ones that coke with a remote where you can change the color automatically

✨When doing a spell, sit somewhere where the area will help give energy to the spell. Doing a sleep spell? Do the spell on your bed. A growth spell? Sit in the grass!

✨If you are constantly going through candles, take the opportunity to clean out the candle jar and use it for storing herbs and things

✨If you can’t burn sage to cleanse, you can make a simple cleansing spray with 4 oz of witch hazel, 6 drops of lavender essential oil and 6 drops of sweet orange essential oil. Add ingredients to a small spray bottle and shake shake shake before spraying

✨Make your own candles with crayons or light a crayon on fire

✨Instead of spending $$ on a crystal ball, use fire or water to scry

✨Spells may not always take affect right away, have patience!

✨Anything can be used in spells, its your personal correspondences and your intention

✨You don’t have to meditate, but if you’d like to, start small! Don’t try to meditate for an hour right away, start with 3 minutes and work your way up to 10 and so on

✨You don’t have to worship a god or goddess!

✨Familiars aren’t mandatory for spell work, don’t feel like you have to have one. Sometimes it takes time to develop a familiar

✨Sleep with your tarot under your bed so you get better readings with your deck

✨Talking or singing to your plants help them grow!

✨If you want your Grimoire/BoS to be artsy but you can’t draw, press plants in between the pages or use stickers that match the theme on each page

TAROT tips for Beginners 🌙

⭐︎ Cleanse your deck after you buy it!! This is so so important, because you want to start working with a new clean energy.

⭐︎ There are thousands of ways to cleanse your deck. Cleansing can be something super simple, as just knocking on your deck 3 times or placing a crystal on top of the deck! Just do what feels right.

⭐︎ Interview your deck! After you buy new cards, talk to them, ask them questions and figure out the decks personality. There are a lot of fun spreads for this.

⭐︎ Sleep with your deck. Another good way to bond with your deck is sleeping with it near you. Just put it under your pillow or somewhere close to you over night!

⭐︎ You don’t have to read reversals. It’s up to you if you decide to turn the card back around. Again, do what feels right!

⭐︎ Reversals don’t always equal opposites. If you decide to read reversals, remember that it can have completely different meaning then just being opposite of the upright position.

⭐︎ Start simple. Start out with something simple like past/present/future spread. It’s super easy and gives you clarity on any situation.

⭐︎ Spend time looking at the picture. When you pull a card, really spend time observing at all the different colors and symbols before you look up the meaning. 

⭐︎ Jumping cards usually have something important to tell you. If you’re shuffling your deck and a card jumps out, look up what it means and what message it has for you!

⭐︎ Pull a daily card each morning. This is super fun and easy. You definitely don’t need to do this everyday, but it’s a good way to memorize the cards and their meanings.

and finally, practice, practice and practice! It’s going to take a while until you remember all the meanings, but just have fun and enjoy the process!🦋
