Shoyo has recently moved tattoo shops to get out of the shadow of his mentor, Bokuto. When his new coworker, Nishinoya, brings some pastries to work, he can't help but go check out the place. It's right down the street, after all! But how was he to know the guy that works there is a total asshole? Even if he is gorgeous. At least his pastries taste good.

Tobio hates working with customers, and he prefers hiding in the back carefully measuring out flour for his meticulously-crafted croissant recipe. He's been single for almost a year, as his friends love pointing out, but he's not that worried about it. That is, until an insanely hot guy comes in to the bakery and has him questioning everything. The guy is dumb, and can't read a menu, but Tobio can't stop thinking about licking his tattoos. Maybe his friends are right, and he needs to get out more.

“Miya. Wake up!”

Atsumu groans, his eyes fluttering open. “Omi? Top of the mornin’ to ya. What is it?”

“There’s, like, twenty fucking jars of umeboshi on the floor.”

“Oh…yeah. They’re for you!”

“For me? Why?”

Why indeed. Allow Atsumu to walk you through his rationale. You see, from the moment he laid eyes on one scowling, masked up, curly haired Sakusa Kiyoomi, it was over for him.

He’d never been one for relationships as his focus was solely on volleyball. So it comes with no surprise to anyone, much less himself, that he doesn’t know how to flirt. Like, at all.

He recalls how Samu flirted with Suna (by inviting him over in the guise of video games and then plying him with an inordinate amount of his cooking) and decides it’s his best bet. Someone said food is the way to a man’s dick. Or something.

On the second day of camp, he saunters over to Kiyoomi like they’ve been friends forever and asks, “Omi-kun, what’s yer favorite dish?”

Kiyoomi glances at him for a fraction of a second before deciding to answer, “Why?”

“Jus’ curious.”

“Be curious somewhere else. Preferably far away from me, Miya.”

“Mine’s fatty tuna.”

“Do I look like I care?” he asks, scowling at him. With his brows furrowed and his lips pursed, Atsumu sorta kinda definitely wants to make out with him.

“No, but that’s never stopped me.”

Kiyoomi sighs, seemingly already exhausted by the conversation. “Umeboshi.”

“Like umeboshi gohan or umeboshi onigiri?”

Kiyoomi shrugs. “I eat straight umeboshi too, but yeah, anything with umeboshi.”

Atsumu’s quiet from then on, a plan evolving in his brain. Later that night, he sneaks out of camp, goes to the nearest konbini, and buys twenty jars of umeboshi. 

He’s used up all his allowance for the rest of camp, left with just enough to get back home.

“Why? ‘Cause I like ya, Omi-kun.”

Kiyoomi, bless his adorable little face, gasps, mouth parting slightly and eyes widening in surprise. So cute.

“Did you think about how I’m supposed to take them all back home with me?”

“Err, no, guess not,” he says, scratching his head. “Shit, m’sorry, Omi-kun. I wasn’t thinkin’ clearly. Maybe Motoya—“

“I think…I think you need to walk me to my train station and help me carry some of it. Motoya’s going to be walking a bit ahead.”

Atsumu is about to point out how red Kiyoomi’s gotten, worried the boy might not be feeling well, when he realizes what’s happening.

Oh. OH.

His heart twitters in his chest, on the verge of soaring, a giant smile plastered on his lips. 

“I’d like that, Omi. I’d like that a lot.”

“Miya, you keep leaving your trash all over my locker. Clean it up or your family will find you floating in the fucking Yodo River!” Kiyoomi yells, voice thunderous inside the locker room.

He tosses a pile of post it notes on the floor in front of Atsumu.

“Jeez, yer so hard to please. I was jus’ flirtin’ with ya, Omi!”

Kiyoomi rolls his eyes. “How is leaving a quadrillion post-its with nonsensical squiggles on them flirting?!”

“It says nice ass,” Miya mumbles, for once in his god forsaken life actually looking contrite.

“What? Speak up, Miya! I can barely hear you.”

“I said the squiggles mean ‘nice ass’ in hieroglyphics.  As in ya have a nice ass, Omi-kun.”

Kiyoomi has so many questions like ‘how do you know what a hieroglyph is’ and ‘you think my ass is nice’ and ‘wait, you were flirting with me’? 

‪His brain must’ve short-circuited because he responds with, “I saw a poll online that says you have the best ass in MSBY.”‬

Kiyoomi realizes he fucked up when he sees the proverbial Miya smirk, the upturn of his lips somehow more attractive than it has ever been. It’s a devastating blow to his pride and psyche.

“Didn’t know my ass is of interest to ya, Omi.”

“It isn’t.”

“That’s not what I jus’ heard. Sounds like we’re mutually appreciative of each other’s butts.”

Kiyoomi groans as he buries his face in his hands. “Please don’t say butts.”

“How about ass then?” 

His eyes narrow as he stares at Miya. Undaunted, the man prattles on. 

“Bum? Tush? Posterior? Buttocks?”

“Ugh, shut up!”

“If ya go on a date with me, I’ll think about shuttin’ up, Omi.”

“Sounds like a losing deal.”

“Hmmm, but ya win my affection and company!” Miya protests.

“To reiterate, it sounds like a losing deal.”

“Are ya sayin’ my ass ain’t worth winnin’, Omi-kun?” Miya asks with a pout.

“Not even a little bit. But…”

“But?”

“It’s worth losing for, at least.”

“Wha—Omi?” he inquires hopefully.

“Pick me up at 7 this Saturday, Miya, and don’t be late,” Kiyoomi responds as he walks away.

‪“I ain’t gonna!” Miya says, the brightest grin on his lips.‬
