The first book "Monstrum" of my space opera/epic fantasy series "Equilibris" got a deluxe edition! I'm so excited about it! ттттт The cover artist is - @eliotbaum. — It was like the first book I read by ML Wang, I became attached to the characters faster than any other book I've read this year. I usually don't care about characters in a standalone; there isn't enough time and development for me to care, but that doesn't happen here. It was such a quick read, I couldn't put the book down and I became immensely attached to both protagonists.

I love Power and Annie, not in the sense that Annie ever should’ve chosen him, but in the sense that she really really shouldn’t have and that doesn’t change the fact that he genuinely loved her and they genuinely cared for each other and meshed in a way she and Lee didn’t.

Like Power truly only brings out the worst in Annie. He makes her more ambitious, yes, better at flying, sure, but also less empathetic to others. More utilitarian. Being with Power LITERALLY gives Annie the tools to become politically powerful. To be an Atreus type figure who is always choosing the greater good but has this warped idea of what the greater good even is.

Meanwhile, Annie IS the right choice for Power. She makes him less selfish, more mindful of who he’s hurting when he chooses the greater good. He becomes someone who, instead of making the decision that’s best for him, allows his reputation to be the main casualty in his quest for the greater good. Like Power never cared about seeming like a good person, and when he’s fighting against Ixion and to protect Annie, that’s his greatest asset. She gives him purpose and drive outside of revenge.

And it makes him one of the most tragic figures I’ve ever read because you see his capacity for and will to change, all while knowing that what he’s sacrificed in that change his sense of self-preservation— which before, would’ve kept him alive at the expense of others.

Blah blah blah anyway the point is the choice between Power and Lee is the choice between being Powerful within the system and Liberation
